great spot!!! friendly service and great food! everything is as advertised. the crablegs come out hot and are juicy. they crack easily and it’s easy to get nice chunks of meat. and they keep them coming. it’s also unusual that they serve them all day– most places don’t start til after 5. the sides are great too– i had baked potato salad and fried okra. wife had mac-n-cheese and steamed corn. all the other plates we saw had large portions and looked and smelled good. it can get very, very noisy in restaurant. doesn’t bother me but might some. nothing fancy just great food and service.

The food was great. Try the green beans. The building is no frills. We were asked to change tables to accommodate a very large party. Not a problem. I ordered sweet tea and got unsweet. We couldn’t get the waitress for our bill. I might try this place in the daytime. If you enjoy tasting good food then come here.

I went to this place with my mom. I was very disappointed in the service and the food. The waitress could have not caredless about us. We never got drink refills. My moms plate had a curly black hair under her fried shrimp. My mom is blonde. We told our waitress and she said«Oh I’ll get you another order» nothing else. Who wants to eat after find someones elses hair on your food!!! Another waitress said«that’s odd our cook is bald». But didn’t care this was our first experience here and we are locals. We were very disappointed in all areas of this restaurant. The food was bland nothing special to get excited about. Tasted like frozen deep fried seafood. We won’t be going back. To many other local seafood restaurants with better service and food to waste time and money here again.

Having managed at a local seafood chain, I’ve learned a tremendous amount about Seafood and its preparation. I can honestly say this place blows the above mentioned chain out of the water! Great, FRESH, seafood. This is my go to spot — and I was able to eat the other place for free. Complimentary cheese grits is just as good as someone else’s complimentary cheese biscuits.

My bother took me and my sister there and I had crab legs needless to say they were off the chain. Two thumbs sister enjoyed her meal also. .

DeShawn’s had good reviews so we drove from Augusta and checked it out. The batter on the fish and shrimp was light and very tasty. The fried okra was perfect. I will definitely go back.

Ambience. C+ Service. B+ Food. B Price. A A seafood restaurant that offers all you can eat options. Hmmm. I’ve heard to try the crab claws but how can you go wrong unless you over boil. The claws. The atmosphere is flourescent and dining hall experience, but clean. Service was very pleasant and most everyone has their southern charm and could talk for days. I ordered the wrong thing experiencing first time eating here back in December 2015. I should have tried the butterfly fried shrimp rather than the small fried shrimp. Oh, well. The battering and seasoning were okay. Still, the all you can eat crab claws anytime of the week sounds like a good deal! No idea how it’s served… But the parking lot is always crowded.

I must say all the talk about this place and when I finally went I was pleased but it really didn’t stand out to me but the scallop and shrimp dinner was good as was the Mac N Cheese and the okra was crunchy. The breading for the fried item was light and not too thick where you can’t taste the food inside the breading. I feel Deshawns is a good place for groups and they have the all you can eat crab legs also so if you’re into those.

So I’ve heard a lot about this place and to be honest I decided to delay my visit because the reviews were really mixed. By the time I decided to try it I was told that they received a poor rating from the SC inspection. Once again I was deterred. A month later, my coworker went and came back with rave reviews. I decided to treat Mister the following weekend. The rating was a well improved A rating. The food was outstanding. We started off with a cup of the creamiest, cheesiest and buttery grits! Hubby ordered all you can eat crab legs. I decided against it as I never get my money’s worth. He choose yams and potato salad. He liked the potato salad but the yams weren’t quite what he expected. They were more like barely sweet sweet potatoes. No caramelized syrupy goodness. I chose the fried flounder and shrimp combo. I decided on the macaroni and cheese and collards. Everything was fried to perfection. The mac and cheese was cheesy(sharp cheddar included) and delish. The collards were ok but there were too many stems. Both dishes included one the best hush puppy recipes I’ve ever had. There were bits of jalapeño in them but they didn’t overpower them. It was just enough to give them flavor. It was a Saturday evening so there was a pretty good crowd there. There are TV’s on every wall. I never got around to figuring out why they were ringing the bell. I got a treat in getting to hear the owner and waitresses sing Happy Birthday to a few customers. Overall, the visit was worth the wait but I can’t wait to go back.

DeShawn’s is Seafood at its best. The parking lot is always full and overflowing into the restaurant we were going to go to next door, that just didnt spark our fancy. We walked next door to DeShawn’s and have never looked back. Everyone we can tell we let them know of this place. I do not even eat crab legs, however, i did here! There all you can eat crab legs are huge and well worth the price. Even though you are not to share… taking or giving a nibble here or there to your less fortunate table-mates that did not order the crab legs just to remind them what they are missing out on is smiled upon! The only reason every trip is not a 5 star for me is the wait staff. They are… well for lack of better words rude and young. They are not welcoming and look like they are teens(not the grown kind the«my first job» kind. I usually order the low country boil(LCB) and I love that the owner walks around and asks how things are going… he’s the reason why I always ask for extra sausage in my LCB because its AMAZING… Also, i have a very guilty pleasure here of FRIEDCORNONTHECOB! This place is a great stop for foodies!

I was very excited to come and try the food here. I loved how quick we got seated and the waiter, Chris, was awesome. I was disappointed at the food that were very much raved for. The Mac and cheese looked more like an elbow pasta with butter sauce and sprinkle cheese, to me. EVERYTHING we ordered was SALTY! The crab legs, collard greens, the Mac and cheese(deconstructed is the best way to describe it), fried catfish, and the calamari. The best thing I had there was my Ice cold sweet tea. Thank you!

I think I just found the best seafood restaurant in the CSRA. This was our first visit. I tried the seafood platter,(flounder, shrimp, and scallops), it was quite impressive. My wife tried the butterfly shrimp and crab cakes. The crab cakes were full of crab meat not fillers. The complimentary grits were really good, too.

I would love to give five stars because I loved it! I loved the food – the yams delicious, their crab legs were cooked to perfection. I got a seafood platter with a little of everything and everything was delicious BUT my crab cake and deviled crab was served cold and I’m an advocate for fresh ingredients, which their seafood A+ fresh, but their corn was from a frozen bag and I’m sure some of their sides were from a can with looking at my friends meal – which is dandy but that’s why they didn’t get an extra star. But I really can’t wait to go back, definitely doing an all you can eat crab legs – you’re all invited and challenged.

My visit was a Friday 5 pm. It was a full house but we got seated within 5 minutes. From there it took 10 minutes for our waitress to even acknowledge that we were there and another 10 minutes to just get our drink order. At the 30 minutes, we had finally got our drinks and placed our dinner order. I order the crab legs dinner and it was cooked perfectly. The waitress forgot to bring the shell cracker or butter. I can appreciate a server being in the weeds but my problem was there was no management support to help her. There seemed to be no system in place to keep servers from getting multiple tables sat at once. No management checking on the tables to see if everything was ok. The concrete block walls make the place very loud and the bathrooms are still substandard. The food itself warrants another visit.

I decided to have lunch at Deshawn’s because I’ve heard great things about the place. I must say, I’m a fan. I had lunch with a friend here and while I waited I was offered complimentary grits. As a southern girl, I was like… heck yeah! But then I thought about all the food I wanted to try and decided against partaking in the comp. grits. Great gesture though. The restaurant is large. It is two sections. One is for dining and the other is for to-go. The staff is so nice. My waitress Dee brought water and menus out right away as I waited for my friend. She told me about the specials and waited patiently until my guest arrived. They had a shrimp and flounder special with two side dishes for $ 6.99. Good deal! However, if you wanted it the flounder and shrimp grilled, it was around $ 15. Quite the jump especially for lunch time, so we went with the fried options. The shrimp and flounder special was good. I ordered corn on the cob(steamed). I’d never seen or heard of this before my visit to Deshawn’s, but apparently corn on the cob is also fried. I also had a side of mac and cheese. Everything was good and made fresh to order. The dining area has a combination of regular and high tables. Overall, a pretty nice place. Seems great for groups and nice for a Sunday. The parking lot is not paved. I think they should make that upgrade.

I hate to give Deshawn’s 3 stars but after this review you will see why!!! I had heard so many great things about this restaurant in Gloverville area, I think that was where this restaurant was previous location but don’t quote me on it. It’s owned by Deshawn Thomas, the son-in-law of the legendary Godfather of Soul, James Brown. My mother and I tried to check them out on Tuesday. We came by and the parking lot was empty with one car in the lot. I didn’t realize they weren’t open on Mondays and Tuesdays but are open throughout the rest of the week. So we came back on Wednesday night. The parking lot was totally packed. This was a great sign with them being a fairly new business in North Augusta but still had a great following. They took over the old Al’s building. They added a few new touches to the building like new paint, TV’s, and nautical decorations but the building is still set up like the old business that was here. I’m not mad at that. It didn’t take long to be seated. We were seated immediately in the back where many other patrons were enjoying their meals. We sat for a few minutes before the waitress came to take our drink orders. She was taking care of the whole left hand side in the back so we understood her situation and didn’t react bitterly. I ordered Pink Lemonade and it tasted as if they made it fresh in-house. It was very delicious. The menu was pretty extensive with seafood, hoagies, crab legs, pork chops and chicken tenders. The chicken in the name is just chicken tenders, which is a bummer because I was hoping for real chicken. There were complimentary grits in the front of the restaurant that you could eat before your meal. For our entrees I settled for the Seafood combo with fried filleted Tilipia and fried scallops with my sides being collard greens and macaroni and cheese. This reminded me of my favorite seafood spots, Community Seafood, which is now out of business. I miss that place!!! Do you hear me!!! My mother ordered the Seafood combo too but with fried shrimp and fried oysters. Her sides were French fries and coleslaw. This is where the problem came in. We waited, and waited, and waited. We saw people who came in after us get their food before us. The waitress checked on us several times telling us that the food would be ready in minutes. We waited some more. Then the waitress came back and said there was a mistake in the kitchen and I food would be right along. After I checked my clock I realized that it was a hour that we had been waiting. My mother had began to get restless and agitated and wanted the food instantly. The food finally came. They had added fried okra to my meal and added more oysters and shrimp to my mother’s plate. They also gave us crab leg free as well. The fish was run of the mill and wasn’t fried hard as I requested it to be. The collards needed more seasoning. The macaroni and cheese was very good. I liked it a lot. The fried scallops were ok and the breading was coming off of them once you picked them up with a fork. The crab legs were acceptable but they weren’t as good as Crab King’s crab legs. My mother says the oysters were good and so were the shrimp. The food was average with the macaroni being the stand out. Each combo was $ 14.99. I don’t think it was worth that much money. The portions were kind of small for that price. The other fish markets I patronize offer more flavorful food and bigger portions than Deshawn’s. I’m grateful for the experience but I’m not sure if this restaurant will become one I frequent often. It may be one I come to once in a blue moon. I’m thankful that they tried to give us something for our wait, most restaurants wouldn’t have done that. The taste of the seafood wasn’t enough to make me a regular customer like I expected. Maybe if I give them a few months they would get their footing and more flavor in their fried seafood. If not I will continue to be a fan of my favorite seafood spots in the CSRA, which are Hunting Island Seafood and Augusta Fish Market.
