I have been shopping in Stables Garden Center for years. I have to say I was very
disappointed this year, by both the selection, and the lack of assistance by the staff.
I left there and hit 3 other nurseries to get the plants I wanted at a price that was fair.
We may or may not go back again.

I just went to this place for the first time this weekend. I’ve lived on LI for decades but had no idea this place was hidden away back there behind a nondescript strip mall. They have a tremendous selection for a small nursery, and I thought their prices were very good. Employees seemed very knowledgeable and were happy to help. On these spring weekends the garden centers at the big box stores are zoos — long lines etc. Not here, I checked out in minutes.
There used to be a lot of places like this but they’ve been disappearing. I hope this one sticks around.

Gotta love those Mom & Pop garden stores. I feel much better about giving a store like this my business over Loews or Home Depot. Stables is much cheaper than the chain and it appeared to be family owned and operated. Hubby & I bought a ton of gardening supplies and a vast array of vegetables and herbs for our garden. As closing time approached, the staff was still helpful and not being overtly annoyed that we weren’t finished shopping yet. We got some great supplies to start our garden for the spring and will certainly come back if we need anything else.
