For little ol Coos Bay you can always find some kind of action going on here. Definately not portland or Vegas, but the second guy has Coos Bay down it down to a t… Somehow this place has been able to keep it poppin though, the bar tenders are great as well :)

Dude. A 5 star rating for the«bar wench» coming from someone in Portland. Dont you folks have VIP type lounges and bars where you can go up on the roof and stuff? Try anything like that at the Bar Wench and someone will get jealous and try to throw you off the roof. @Brice B. hey man… check out Vegas some time. They have 5 star bars and clubs… Club Jet… LAX…TAO…XS…Ghost Bar… But the bar wench on Virginia and 101 north? 5 stars? ohhh man come on… Perhaps this review is biased being I’m originally from the area. But this is how the«bar scene» works in Coos Bay/North Bend… LOOK!!! A new bar! WOOHOO… Things are good for the first few weeks…2 weeks later, bar is closed down due to huge fights…4 weeks later, same bar opens with new name and the same problems come back. It’s a vicious circle… Jealousy factor in Coos Bay/North Bend on a Friday and Saturday night is through the roof. If you have white teeth(all of them), and you actually groom yourself(yes…this means you use water AND soap) then your probably going to get mean mugged. The last time I went there(NOTBYCHOICE) I ran into friends from high school, and old acquaintances. That was nice… but what wasn’t nice was being harassed by this wanna be gangster/hustler who was trying to convince me I cant find«X»(MDMA) any cheaper than from him. Maaaaan, i’m 28 with kids… I dont have time for that stuff, nor is that what I want to hear when I’m out with my wife. So if your looking for a wild time, possibly throw down, get kicked out, get arrested(North Bend Police Department is only 1.5 blocks away), or get offered designer drugs this could quite possibly be your spot… but dont get too attached to it! Like I said, It’ll be closed down and reopened in a few months with a new name.

really good food and decent beer selection, but the inside is just another bar. i’m not sure why people are so enamored with it, but the fact that the bartender is a woman and the other reviewers are men probably has a lot to do with it. when all bars go smoke-free this place will get another star.

Here I am on my swing through downstate Oregon, Day 2. Today: Coos Bay. Based on prior reviews*, I headed up the road to Bar Wench. Given the current state of things in downtown North Bend, I wasn’t expecting much when I opened the door to the bar. Once my eyes adjusted to the low light levels, I was astounded: this place is downright, well… sexy! The bar itself is huge, and the place is very sparsely appointed. There aren’t any TVs, but they project one of the Windows Media Player dynamic skins on the wall behind the bar, and it works(in a slightly trippy way.) Great liquor and beer selection aside, the real story of Bar Wench is the staff. I was immediately greeted by Jessica, the purveyor and obvious ruler of the joint. She was busy training a new bartender, but she and the trainee(Natalie) took a little time to chat me up. As someone who frequently plays the«guy in town on business» role, I’m accustomed to sitting at the bar and quietly drinking my beer and eating my dinner. It’s rare to find a place where the bar staff takes some interest in my humanity. The ladies of the Bar Wench went out of their way to engage me on a personal level, and it was greatly appreciated. I had a couple of TGIPA’s and a burger that was served on a ciabatta-esque roll. The owner disappeared and cooked it herself, and it was damn tasty. That gets four stars right there! After talking to Jessica(again, the owner), I’m really hoping that her bar becomes a success. She’s a microcosm of the economic possibilities that are brewing in the North Bend/Coos Bay area. This woman knows her shit, and she is working her butt off to make this thing a success. The bottom line is, if you come to the Coos Bay area and don’t stop in to Bar Wench, you suck. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – *I couldn’t help but hit Bar Wench after I read the first review: . . Now that you’ve got some context, I’ll spare you the mystery: The«best lookin broad» in question who was the clear object of the author’s affection is no longer working at Bar Wench. She did indeed head back to Sacramento just after Stephen I. penned his review. Prescient.
