Safeway Food & Drug

Not in the habit of reviewing grocery stores, but this one is a real gem … especially considering the area.
The last time we lived in a backwater burg like this was on another work assignment to Huntington, West Virginia back in 2005.
Granted, the times have changed a lot in 10 years. But back then the best we could do was a neighborhood Kroger’s, a Sam’s Club warehouse across the river in Ohio, and occasional trips to Columbus, Ohio or Lexington, Kentucky … the closest outposts of bona fide civilization.
Nowadays, our local North Bend Safeway is clean, well-​lit, and has an amazing stock of Organic foods at reasonable prices. It’s not the end all, be all, but it makes life a lot easier in terms of grocery shopping for healthy food. And that’s not a little thing we take for granted.

My favorite Safeway in Coos Bay/​North Bend… Friendly people that always talk and say hello… I am Vegetarian and the produce and fruit is always fresh and in excellent shape… Not wilted or soggy… I buy most of my groceries here. If there is a problem, it is solved in a short period of time. Safeway Select frozen Pizzas, 5 cheese are my favorite… This store is always happy to please their customers.

Do not buy steak from here. At least 5+ times I have purchased steaks that have the smell and after taste of fish/liver…gross. #oldmeat

Yep, just another Safeway. Nice little organic produce section. Lettuce was actually in good condition and not rotting and wilted like Fred Mayers organic lettuce.
I do like the «O» Organic Safeway brand they offer. They now have their own kumbucha brand.
Its only $ 2.50
You do have to search for the «O» brand. I wish they would just put all the organics in one area instead of having me have to play treasure hunt.
Anyway…nice atmosphere. super friendly service and easy checkout.

This is in regards to the chinese food that they serve. have u ever been to safeway when the line where they display the food r empty? I see it for a year now! Its disgusting! Dont the have to follow somekind of food sanitation standard?! Old rotten dried out food lining the crevices. Food is so bland only the sause has overwhelming taste. Their fried rice is like crunchy bland fried rice. The manager should really try to take charge or find a manager that would.

I like this Safeway best out of all in coos county. They are all super friendly and they accommodate my sometimes finicky mother and her wine requests.
The managers here take pride in a clean shopping environment that is easy to shop and navigate. The meat counter is friendly and full of tips and deals. They have helped us through many holiday mishaps.
Love the bakery too.

Coos bay store has best meat department hands down! Customer service at the counter is amazing very friendly and helpful.

It’s a gorgeous store, and I love the olive bar. The deli here actually has really great sandwiches, and they don’t skimp on the meat, they give you plenty. And you can really taste the quality of the products they use in their sandwiches. The employees that make the sandwiches up for you are fast and are easy going, accommodating and very patient with all my strange requests. Turkey avocado and bacon with havarti and lots of tomatoes on a toasted sourdough roll with tons of garlic aioli… Yum!

The store is clean and all, but the employee in the deli section had nothing but such a rude attitude. Definitely didn’t feel comfortable to order the rest of my food. Not the best experience.

They always have what I need and friendly employees. Use your club card to get a discount on gas.

Typical Safeway store with a great staff who are friendly and know their customers.

The bakery is sooooo good not the sawdust stuff one used to get at grocery stores. I understand the donuts are baked, they are very good. So are the cream puffs cakes and other goodies. Real cream in the puffs. I watch my weight this is will worth the calories as an occasional treat.
The store is very clean. It has organic produce and a good meat department. Very accommodating.

this review is for the gas station part only. it would take a miracle or sizable bribe for me to ever buy gas there again. it is absolutely the worst service i’ve received, not just for a gas station, but in the history of everything i’ve ever done. not only was it slow, but the attendants are outstandingly rude. safeway seems to care so much about service and having a nice place to shop in the store, but i won’t be going to this safeway again unless drastic things are done to the gas station part.
