Sonic Drive- In

Ordered sonics on my way home from work from a late meeting about 10:50pm, since my husband wanted a shake. The drive thru is supposed to be quick. Pulled up and waited for someone to finally respond 5 minutes. All I ordered was a large strawberry and banana milkshake and a medium chocolate strawberry shake. I had to wait 20 minutes for these 2 shakes. As I look inside, I see they are cleaning and the person who is making my shakes is stopping to clean while handling food. Not very happy with the wait just for 2 shakes and I had vehicles waiting behind me as well.
If you plan on eating at Sonics be sure to wait a while for them to prepare your food through drive thru and check the bag before you leave. I have been to the location a few times since it is open late and their food is decent if you’re hungry and craving their burgers but their customer service is.

I’ve been to sonics before but when I used to visit Delaware state. I’m glad we have one close to home for more than 4 years now, with a few locations in New Jersey and not have to go to another state for it like the past! I went with the double cheese burger, fries, medium onion rings order, and a strawberry cheesecake shake… what’s a plus about the north Bergen location is its open until 2am so that’s #winning

Late night fast food runs are all about mistakes you’ll regret in the morning. Going to this Sonic is a big mistake regardless of the time of day. Expect to wait and not receive any feedback. So put it in park, play a game, text, reorganize your music playlist, contemplate the meaning of life and MAYBE this will be enough time for them to get the order right. NOPE.
Do not leave the parking lot without checking your bag, you’ve been warned.

It sucks because I really like their onion rings, but everything single Sonic I’ve been to (in NJ) has the crappiest customer service. Whether parked car or drive thru something always goes wrong. This was no different, despite repeating my order three times. And their onions taste/​look different now :/

One of my first jobs in high school was a car hop at a Dallas Sonic drive-​in and it was probably the easiest job ever.
I ordered at the drive thru once and another at the drive-​in, very simple orders. I know Sonics is fairly new up north but I’m sure the systems inside are similar if not exactly the same. Both times my orders were wrong which is upsetting because I don’t make it complicated at all. And getting a drink order wrong at Sonic is just terrible because that is the whole signature thing. Those. drinkssss!

This was my first Sonic experience. N boy, was I excited! This particular location was a retro drive-​in but had few seats also, out in the open. There was ample parking space and cool audio machines wherein you can place your order without getting out of the car. The Sonic staff would deliver your order on skates (which was pretty cool, IMO!).
Coming back to food, we ordered a pineapple upside down with a medium sized potato tots. The pineapple blast came with pieces of pineapple, salted caramel and pie crusts. But it failed to impress me much. However the tots were nice n crispy.
Considering the amount of calories being served at this place, I am not planning to make a trip anytime soon!

My family from the south speaks of a far far away land where your wildest and most sweet dreams come true. Imagine a menu full of only slushy flavors, milk shake flavors, toppings, and fillings (pop rocks and jolly ranchers) galore. The place is called sonic drive thru.
Now yes this is a fast food spot no doubt, however there is such a unique element that it’s worth the 30 minute drive and $ 14 toll from the city. All the servers skate throughout the restaurant which is mostly just a parking lot with car booths to order from. The first time I saw a fast food restaurant in the suburbs with no sitting space indoors. The whole setup is made so that you order and eat in your car (which isn’t allowed in my car unless I’m at sonic) and the experience is priceless.
Imagine going to one of your favorite fast food places with your friends and basically creating your own vibe and situation. This is sonic! And I heard they’re coming to the city, if Staten Island is even considered such anymore lol. Anyway well worth it. Bring wads of cash tho.
TIP: Pricey for a fast food place. This isn’t McDonald’s or Burger King.

Went to north Bergen sonic around 5pm on a Monday. French fries, chicken strips and chicken sandwich was nasty cold like it’s been in a refrigerator. Cup was FULL of ice, barely any soda– 2 drinks and it was completely gone. Look at the picture. The ice cream blast was good though. $ 25+ in the garbage and the fiancé complaining about the food– thanks a lot Sonic.

No salads. Everything is fried. Impossible to find. Healthier restaurants are just a few blocks away.

This location is a joke. Took half an hour to get my order from the drive thru which was two hot dogs and tots. Not that hard to make right? Well I guess for these high school kids it was like asking someone to split an atom. Two of them just skated around the parking lot throwing things at each other like two little creatures on wheels. The rest of the lost boys were jerking around in the back cursing up a storm and acting like it was spring break. Then I thought to myself «wait a minute I’m in North Bergen these little bastards are acting normal for their surroundings» But for real Sonic clean house at this location and hire an actual adult to manage this location as well. Never will I visit this place again.

This fast food restaurant has an old school feel. I really enjoy it. The fact that the waiters are in roller skates it’s a great, and original idea. It’s a fun place for tourists. I took my sister there when she visited from Costa Rica.
I love their Jalapeño poppers, every time I go there I order them. It is a good place to go to with family and children, I like taking my nephews there, but have to always make sure that it’s a nice day out because they don’t have indoor tables. Avoid it if it’s a windy day. I kind of wished they had indoor tables. They also have classic car shows every Friday, which I haven’t attended yet, but plan to eventually. I like that they have a breakfast menu that is available all day. Did i forget to mention that their ice for drinks, is amazing! Yes it’s extremely addictive, i eat it all after i finish my drink. Seems silly, but I can never get enough, I used to have a bad habit of chewing ice so this suffices my bad habit hahaha.
They also have drive-​in options. You get to park and order and even eat in the car if you’d like, which is not ideal, but great if you are in a rush to go somewhere and need to make it quick, or just order to go.
There have been days when I had great service and others when I’ve had really bad service, but I won’t blame the restaurant for that, which is why I decided to give it 3 stars and keep it neutral. I also think Sonic should be a little more considerate of their staff and allow them to wear jackets during winter hours, I always feel bad that they have to wear their uniforms outside, without a jacket. Come on sonic, this is the east coast.

Never in my life have I had worse food service, even if it is fast food. I was in the drive in for over 1 hour with two others waiting on my food, and it was horrible. I am not picky about food at all but it really was bad. We ordered 3 milkshakes, 2 of which were hot fudge and they gave us two cups of just vanilla ice cream. When we asked if it was correct the man bringing us our food was annoyed and had a serious attitude because he had to take it back and actually put hot fudge in it. My sister ordered a grilled cheese and it was white bread with american cheese slapped on, microwaved for about 10 seconds; it wasn’t melted or grilled at all. Don’t even get me started on the wait. I like sonic in general but this one in particular has unbelievably bad service and food.

First time trying Sonic!!!

best part is the strawberry lime-​ade. wow. so refreshing. so good. wow. just. wow. try it. game changer. GET IT.
also tried a mini jalapeño hot dog and some chili fries. delicious!

Getting here was a hassle. Drove around 3 times, went to some back roads. I am from New York and been craving sonic. We got a bunch of food:
Boneless wings: these were pretty amazing for a fast food place. decent size and plenty of meat. Actually much better wings then applebee’s! Delicious too, we got buffalo and asian sweet chili, buffallo were my fav! We got two shakes: peanut butter and cookie dough, and peanut butter fudge cheesecake shake. Wasnt too impressed with the shakes. It was hard to drink. We also had cheesecake bites, those were much better then I expected. My boyfriend also had some kind of chicken sandwich (the value menu one i think), and he wasnt impressed with that, the lettuce had fridge smell. I had a coupon from being sign up to their fan club, buy one get one dessert, so one shake was free! they also had half off waffle cones that day, I had vanilla waffle cone, not super impressive but cheap. Good fast food place overall.

Sonic is just one of those places made to make grown people happy about calories and the possibility of type 2 diabetes. I love this place.
Sonic is like something from Grease. After deliberating in your car on what you’ll get from their huge menu selection someone in rollerblades will bring your order to your car. You can stay in your vehicle, drive off, or you can relax at one the tables with your meal.
The worst thing about Sonic for me is that there aren’t any in NYC. Maybe that’s a good thing though since I’d probably overdose on slushies & sundaes.

WOW! This is the best fast food restaurant I’ve eaten at in a while. It’s a convenient location, right outside of the city and is almost never busy so you get your food reasonably quickly.
Service is outstanding. They are friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and are fast. Food is better than any other fast food restaurant, no question. Kids meals are great, chilli cheese dog is awesome, and you cannot leave without trying a slush.
Five star, high quality, restaurant. Amazing!

The location was kind of hidden and we only noticed it after we accidentally passed it but driving through the empty parking lot to get to Sonic wasn’t too difficult. We were passing by grabbing a quick bite to eat before our long journey to our destination. What I personally like about sonic is that food is cheap and there’s a lot of options. I love the french fries, especially when they’re fresh and crispy. After we were done eating, my friends and I wanted to get a few of their special shakes for the road but their ice cream machine broke so it was so disappointing. Overall, this place was alright. It’s just a special treat for a NY-​er like me who only gets to enjoy Sonic when I’m in New Jersey.

My friend is crazy about the sonic slushy so we drove here after our shopping spree to fulfill his craving. We did a drive through and menus were hard to read if you were sitting in the back. Our orders came out to us quick and the waitress came to use with her roller-​skates. (***)
I had the hotdog cheese and chilly and the small strawberry slushy. The hotdog was a bit salty, but it went really well with the chilly. This was one messy hotdog, but I manage to do a pretty good job on cleaning my plate. The slushy was pretty good. I had real strawberry bites in it and I like the texture. I think they need to invest in bigger straws. It was hard to get everything out of that cup and I can easily finish the liquid before the ice can melt. (***)
They do not have bathrooms for customer. Really? I thought you need to have a bathroom wherever you serve food. I guess you need to go into Toy’s R Us for that one which is one parking lot away. (*)

First time I have gotten food at Sonic. When I was in PA, I would go to the local ones to get diet cherry lime-​ades during happy hour. Tried the hot dogs on the new pretzel bread, which was good! The hotdogs are all beef and the pretzel bun had good texture. I also got the tater tots with cheese … very comfort food-​y.
I went through the drive thru since I was in a rush but next time, will try out the car hops. Service time was fine. And the guy who took my order was very nice. It looks like this is a good neighborhood hang out for locals on the outside picnic tables. Kinda nice to see such a kitschy retro place in North Bergen.

So glad that Sonic came to North Bergen. I really only had Sonic in North Carolina (the Outerbanks) while on vacation. Standard fast food (hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream floats, etc). It is located off Kennedy Blvd off 495 but it can be hard to find the driveway.
Love the old time feel with the car ports and the wait staff on roller skates. No tables inside but they have several outside or you can eat in your car. My favorite is the Coney Island Hotdogs. Pretty good place for a quick bite if you are in the area and doing shopping.
