Swensons Drive-In

Great place! Thanks, Unilocal!Service was friendly and food was fantastic. This is just a mile from the interstate but you have to drive through a residential area. It is WAY better than your normal road trip options! Also, the prices are better than the regular fast food joints as well!
My only complaint is that we were there in the winter and they only had unheated outside bathrooms. A simple space heater could go a long way to make that atmosphere a bit nicer!!! Given we were on a road trip, a bathroom break is a must!

It’s been a very long time since I’ve visited this Swenson’s location. I’m pleased that the food is consitent with the other locations in Akron. I ordered a double cheeseburger, fries, and onion rings. All were served hot and as expected. When I was a teenager, my friends and I would come to this location and sit at the picnic tables which I noticed are no longer there. I miss the tables! Oh well, overall, great experience!

Was in town and asked about a good quick place to eat. This place was recommended so we decided to check it out. The service was prompt, that’s for sure.lol. we have never been here so I asked the carhop what he suggested. He recommended the galley boy burger. We also had fries and onion rings. Gotta say the burger was good… but I could have done without the red sauce. I’m just not a bbq type sauce fan. Otherwise, very nice. Onion rings looked amazing but I was a little disappointed in the taste. There was just something about it I couldn’t quite place. Fries were perfect. Service was perfect. All in all, I’m glad we tried it. Would definitely like to try other menu items!

Wow where to begin, this Swenson’s has impacted my life in ways unimaginable. What a North Canton staple. I just remember when my friends and I would all pile into one car and pull up with our tunes just bumping. We’d laugh and joke around with the people taking our orders, always telling them to make us an Ohio drink (they have a few beverages named after states) and just eat the night away.
The food at any Swenson’s is simply tasty. Classic drive in food (burgers, fries, shakes, etc) all cooked to perfection.
The burgers are sweet and irresistible. Grilled to the finest state, with a beautiful browned bun. I recommend the «Galley Boy» a Swenson’s classic. All there burger varieties, however, are the backbone of the Swenson’s menu. You’re truly missing out if you come, but choose to skip the burger.
Side dishes there are all great as well. The fries are lightly salted and fried to golden bliss. The tater tots are potato filled goodness. However, in this category it’s the «Potato Teasers» that really shine. Their cheesy potato jalapeño beauty is just magnificent all fried to that golden perfection mentioned earlier.
Now a really under rated part of the Swenson’s menu item are their beverages. The «Florida» is orange carbonated goodness. It’s refreshing with hints of excitement hidden behind every carbonated burst. The «California» is one of Swenson’s crowning gems. With grape soda and ginger ale swirled together, this drink will stick with you and have you coming back for more.
Lastly, the shakes… oh the shake. I’m smiling just thinking about their creamy viscosity. I cannot recommend the hot fudge shake more. You’d think it’d be like a basic chocolate shake, however you couldn’t be more foolish. It’s think and gooey, but still holds that creaminess we all love about milkshakes.
In closing thoughts, Swenson’s is the heart of North Canton. Yes, it may be a North East Ohio chain, but they’re all so beloved. I will never forgot all the great memories Swenson’s has given me. Thank you Swenson’s for making my life filled with grease filled laughs!

We stumbled upon Swensons on our way to our hotel from the airport. We will be stopping back by before we head back to the airport!!! Awesome cheeseburger, great onion rings, delicious shakes, and outstanding service! Thank you Swensons for kicking these Floridian’s vacation off to a great start!!!

I have never been to a fast food place that was so eager to serve! Fast, friendly workers and EXCELLENT food! You will not be disappointed.

Great burger! I had the Galley Boy burger and it was just perfect! Cheese was all melts and just the right amount of sauce. The shake, chocolate banana peanut butter, had great flavor and consistency!

This is a great place to get some food fast and eat a quality product. The dirve up service is fast and friendly. Try the milkshakes and any burger really. Can’t go wrong. Nothing bad here.

Oh Swenson’s you’ve done it again. You bring me the best grilled chicken salad ever! The chicken is always so fresh & warm, It comes with fresh vegetables, I love it. My hubs got the galley boy burger & raves about how great it is. The service is spectacular. A kid runs to take your order, I’m not sure why, but I like it. Actually he runs to do everything. You turn your car lights on when you want him to come running. The food is fresh, the service is fast & friendly & the prices are great. You can’t sit inside, it’s a sit in your car & eat kind of place. Try it out!

This place is 100% consistent. Great food, great service that is polite and fast at a great price.
Love their cheeseburgers, Coney Dogs and they have just about the only onion rings I’ll eat.
They even happily cater to my wife’s Gluten Allergy by preparing her hamburger minus the bun.
Great place and we love to keep coming back here. As a matter of fact it’s a running joke in our family when one member helps another move or with a house project to say «I will buy you Swenson’s if you help».

I have been to several of the different Swenson establishments.
You can’t go wrong eating here.

Double hamburger plain (to enjoy the natural deliciousness of the sweet and salty burger) Potatoe Teasers with ranch for dipping topped off with a mint whip! Amazing!

A galley boy, fried mushrooms and a milk shake for my husband. A galley boy, potato puffs and a California for me. Add a double cheeseburger with everything (mustard, pickle & onion) to split as a snack later.
The car hops are prompt and polite and the food is fantastic!

Their Galley Boy is like heaven in your mouth. It contains a mixture of such great flavors; it’s literally the only burger I like. They have really fast service and I love how it has the old fashioned drive-​in feel. Going there when it’s raining is very romantic, in my opinion.

Most of the people reviewing this establishment/​location are locals, or were locals, or are good friends with a local. This is the story of two non-​locals going to Swensons.
While planning a quick day trip to Akron (from Cleveland mind you but with a small child), we asked around to people who knew things about the area and found an overwhelming response regarding Swensons. So it was added to the plan.
The actual experience is much like any drive-​in. The waiters super nice, the menu a little confusing for a newbie. I got a cheeseburger, fries and chocolate shake. My husband got a burger, onion rings and a pumpkin shake. The fries were ok, the chocolate shake was great! I was sharing with said small child and he commandeered my shake for himself. We should have gotten the galley boy to try.
I can see wanting to come here on a nice warm day and parking it, but really I would go out of my way to come again. Great spot for locals though!

It is so great to have this Swensons near the Akron airport. Now that we don’t live in Ohio anymore we usually fly into Akron so we can easily stop here on our way in/​out of the airport! Oh man, now I want a Swensons burger but I’m 900 miles away…

I won’t beat a dead horse, all the reviews here are true. Swensons is exactly as advertised: great service, tasty milkshakes and without a doubt the best burger of any fast food chain — the Galley Boy. They deliver everything they promise and go above and beyond by adding great service to fast food — not an easy task.

There are few fast food joints that can get 5 stars out of me but this is an exception. I found this place when I was in college and just went back this year… with no regrets. I got the galley boy and some jalapeño poppers. The service was great (quick and enthusiastic). The burger delicious (toasted bun, slightly sweet burger, special sauce). The experience… oh the memories. I will be stopping in and out when I get the chance and look forward to sharing this place with some friends.

Great milkshakes. It’s been a while since I tried their food but I do remember the burgers being good. I love the banana and butterscotch milkshakes.
Service was great. Our server told us all 16 milkshake flavors after I asked him and he didn’t even sound annoyed. Our order came pretty quickly. I want to go back soon to try their burgers again. One thing I think is cool is that the servers don’t have roller skates like the old drive-​ins but they run everywhere they go.

The galley boy burger is really good… However I you are wanting a good burger, you should probably go to Skyway instead. They have the best burgers!!!
Blueberry milkshake is way to sweet and way to much blueberry flavor in it.

Super good burger joint. Probably the worse place in the world to work in inclement weather. Our server girl was wet from head to toe, but still smiling. And still running out orders to cars. I can’t imagine.
We had a galley boy and a double hamburger. Really meatie. They use the best onions in the world. Plus the onion rings are really good and their shakes were super thick.
