Absolute disaster of an experience. We were out in a group of 7 on a Saturday night; we hail a cab in downtown Charleston — it happens to be be a Freemon vehicle driving under the name«Charleston Taxi Cab Company.» The driver puts a $ 49 «extra charge» the meter as we enter the cab/van. After inquiring, she appears to tell us that its not part of the metered fare. We get out of the cab — 1.5 miles away and also in downtown Charleston — and are told the fare is $ 56! Needless to say, we were not pleased and an argument began(as we hold up traffic on King St looking for a police officer to adjudicate our dispute). There is a widely known set far for rides in downtown Charleston — and obviously the driver chose to charge us $ 56 instead. We were obviously tourists and it seems pretty clear that Freemon’s driver ripped us off. Dealing with Freeom’s owner/operator trying to get reimbursed for the overpayment(the receipt we received is clear proof of the overcharging) has been a nightmare as well.
