While White Birch Books is set off the road a bit and may be hard to see, it’s definitely worth seeking out. I usually stop in while in the area and the staff has been nothing but friendly. It has a warm, welcoming feel. While not a frequent shopper, I signed up for the frequent shopper club a few years back and it has more than paid for itself. They frequently host local authors and it would be unusual to visit and not find autographed copies of their books for sale. They have a larger selection than many big stores three times their size and I really love all of the«staff picks» with explanations about the book that you can find all around the store. If you are a reader, it’s definitely worth a stop.

Great bookstore. Comfy seating for resting. Helpful staff. Very eclectic selection of new books and some used books in very good condition. Bargain items and kids section is upstairs. Nice gift options as well. Not having option overload like I get at the big bookstores helped me find a few great books outside of my normal assortment of authors.

I love cute little independent book stores and this one is adorable. I’m not from the area, so I wouldn’t be able to order anything if I wanted, but still I really enjoyed the customer service aspect of retail over blindly clicking and it appearing on my doorstep 48 hours later(amazon is a beautiful cruel mistress). I overheard the clerk trying to find a book for a customer on the phone. She found the book he was looking for(don’t remember the name, but that it seemed like an oddball publisher) and gave him the dates in which they get shipments from that publisher, when he should expect it in, and so forth. Awesome levels of customer service. I bought a new book I had been eye balling for a while(wound up being on the clearance rack. Woooo!) and a new wooden book mark. All in all had a fun time!

Got to give shout outs to the independent book stores remaining and this one does deserve the shout out. I especially like how they have staff recommendations with placards on the books with the staff’s comments.

Cute medium sized bookstore on the edge of town in North Conway. I was impressed with the rather large selection, which extends upstairs. There were a few things that I was looking into buying, including some nicely designed reusable bags. Worth checking out if youre looking for a book in the area.

Blink and you’ll miss this independent book store located amidst a ton of gaudy signs advertising tourist traps in downtown North Conway(and I say that with love because we all enjoy those stores). The store is very dignified, and has a nice selection of books, especially books for children. I love independent book stores, and this place is great to browse. As with most stores during peak months in North Conway, it can get crowded, but not as much as other stores– there’s a certain amount of respect; no one will push you aside to see a book display. Prices are what you’d find anywhere for books, and they have some other items that seem a little pricier than I’d like to pay. If you like to read, you must check this store out. It won’t blow you away compared to other independent book stores, but it’s very nice for what it is.

This independent book store is an oasis in a desert of big box chains. The atmosphere is lovely and you can spend hours looking at everything. Fine wooden bookcases invite you in. The modern and whimsical journals, address books and stationary beg to be handled. There is a great loft for the kids’ section, which includes used books in great condition. I really liked their collection of local paper goods and gifts.

Here’s a delightful independent bookstore nestled into a quiet spot off the traffic-heavy center of North Conway. It’s a store in an attractive two-story house that«feels» good for those of us who love books and believe strongly in independent stores and their independent owners. It has a pretty good selection for a small store — it’s weakest on nonfiction areas like history and biography — but we loved the cookbooks, the local books and the staff/customer recommendations. It’s obvious the folks who use this store regularly love it. There’s a comfy seating area, and you get the feeling that it’s ok to sit down a read; no one shoos you out. We wish the owners well; we loved our visit.

Independent bookstores do not get any better than this! A great selection and staff combined with great prices and a great location make the trek to New Hampshire’s most tourist-oriented town well worth the visit.

I can’t believe there is only one other review for this place. It’s beautiful. From the outside it looks like it would be a musty used bookstore, but the inside is a perfect place to browse and read. The shelves were well marked and clean with helpful staff recommendation notes on many. Contrary to the chains, there are actually chairs(and comfortable ones) to sit and read. The staff were very helpful. Highly recommended.

Cute shop that has a floor and a quarter(small annex upstairs with non fiction and a maps/travel section). There is a strong showing of local authors and subjects including a really cool«Haunted Hikes» book that looked interesting and lots of local photographs. Strong fiction and children’s sections with some really cool toys in there. I almost bought myself a pocket kite until I remembered that I always break those types of things :)
