My in-laws live in Johnsburg, about five miles outside North Creek. If we’re going into town for a drink, BarVino is the spot. Nice atmosphere, really good snacks, good wine, and good draft list. I’d be happy having BarVino down the street anywhere, and in a small town in the Adirondacks, it really stands out.

Love this place. From the foods to the craft beers and amazing wines in tap, I just love this place. The staff is amazing friendly and accommodating. I would choose this among any other place in town. Highly recommend this place!!!

Great wine, great food! If there’s a table near the fire, try to take it. The food and friendly staff are unmatched in North Creek. BarVino is definitely a local gem. Once inside, you forget you are in a small Adirondack town. It is busy and always packed like a small restaurant you would find in NYC. The service is attentive, and the staff is knowledgable about both the wine list and the menu. You can’t go wrong with their always-changing tapas menu. This time we had the mussels with abbey ale, spinach and bacon, the burrata, and the elk chili. All were delicious and easy to share. The staff starts to remember you after just a few visits and are more than happy to ask the kitchen to alter a dish for you.

Good stuff. My only complaint is the $ 16 cheese plate that has 3 selections of smallish portions of cheeses. No fruit, no crackers nothing but the cheese. The wines were good. The Green Chili mussels were superb. The olives and almonds were also very good. Excellent attentive service and overall reasonably priced.

My family and I are from jersey and we have loved this restaurant for years! We always rant how good the food is to all our friends! We even bring them up to north creek and insist we dine there. Unfortunately, EVERY time we go there the service is not good. This past week was the first time I didn’t leave annoyed! There are these twin bartenders and I believe the owners daughter that are the worst. My friends and I are in the food industry and each year I apologize for the service(mind you it’s Different friends every year). The food is on point! Shame the service is pretentious :(please talk to the employees! I just water Or even a polite employee!

My girlfriend and I decided to try BarVino after a day of skiing and many great reviews from locals. Also, It was a Tuesday, so it was one of the few places open in North Creek . We arrived around 6pm and were seated promptly by the fire. The server was polite and informative; they were offering a special that included $ 1 off wine and beer by the glass and $ 5 off wines by the bottle. We went with a Rose Malbec – delicious with their varying tapas menu. We split 4 courses. Each dish was unique and plentiful. The menu was interesting and sparked both of our interests; she is more of an herbivore and I am more of an omnivore. We ended our meal with a light but flavorful opera cake– made by Café Safe, a local favorite and an espresso. Extremely reasonable price for amazing food and a great wine selection! Would have given a 4.5 if the option was available– we will be visiting again!

Tonight we went as soon as it opened. We decided to grab a seat at the bar. I had a glass of white wine & the hubs had a couple different beers on tap. It was restaurant week: we each ordered off the three course meal for $ 30. I had the parsnip & apple soup, crab cake & Apple/fennel slaw, and the opera cake for dessert. He had the wedge salad, steak & frites, and the vanilla cream custard for dessert. The soup was a massive bowl, the wedge salad was huge! The steak was also at least ten ounces. The sauce that came with the crab cakes was a great fancy tarter sauce. Food was good, owner was really nice & great atmosphere. We would definitely return. Oh and the bathroom was clean & cute!

The most important thing to know about Bar Vino is probably that they DONOT take reservations. Our arrival 30 minutes after their 5 o’clock opening saw our party of four promptly seated at two tables that they pushed together for us. There were now about a dozen people seated at either the bar or tables on the last meteorological Sunday of the season. By a little after 6 pm people were standing at the bar and outside waiting for tables to free up. I did not study the wine list, but it looked extensive and the bar has a cruvinet with about 16 taps. I also did not bother to look at the bottled beer list, because there were eleven draft beers listed on the chalk board, all craft beers, with the exception of Guinness, all of which peaked my interest. Each of the wine drinkers ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc($ 8/5oz) while I had a pint of Bell’s Two Hearted Ale($ 6) and my wife ordered a pint of Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA($ 6). Our server brought a small amount of sliced warmed bread to the table with a bowl of oil and balsamic vinegar and told us that more bread would be available shortly. When it never arrived we did have to ask her for that bread much later when we wanted it to dip in the sauces remaining from some of our food preparations. The one-page menu is actually quite varied. The portions are on the smaller tapas style, but that works to the advantage of people like us who want to try a variety of dishes and share with our companions. The menu expresses that the food is served family style and that«dishes may arrive at your table at different times to ensure that your food comes to you as fresh as possible.» We choose to skip the three PEI mussel variations, and from the remaining 15 offerings we selected: Olives and Almonds($ 6) Thai Eggplant Salad($ 8) Scotch Egg($ 5) Wild Mushroom Soup($ 7) Korean BBQ Chicken Wings($ 9) Gnocchi($ 9) Seared Diver Scallops($ 15) Mediterranean olives and spicy Marcona almonds were an attractive and tasty first dish to arrive and start our evening’s palate adventure. The Eggplant Salad used local farm raised Japanese eggplant, shallot, cilantro, Thai chili, and our server was kind enough to have the peanuts served on the side. The spice level was just right. The Scotch Egg was perfectly cooked to a soft-yolk center and surrounded by house-made sage sausage with a good mustard sauce on the side. Tasty sausage nicely crisped. The Mushroom Soup was rich with a nice earthy flavor. The Chicken Wings were small but meaty drumsticks with just a little kick and a crispy outside flavored with ginger, scallions and sesame seeds. The Gnocchi were tender in their brandy-cream with bacon and slivered almonds. The Scallops were seared perfectly and had a great flavor with a creamy leak fondue and topped with chopped heirloom tomatoes. Every single one of our dishes was delicious, and sharing that many dishes among four people was more than sufficient. There was not a single dish that I would hesitate to order again. While we were sympathetic to the many customers who were waiting for a table, with so many different dishes pleasing our palates up to this point, we had to answer in the affirmative when our server asked if we would like to see the dessert menu. Of the four items offered, two were made in-house and two came from the Café Sarah down the street. We decided on three choices. The Opera Cake($ 6) — a vanilla sponge cake layered with coffee cream, wrapped in chocolate ganache and topped with whipped cream. A Whole Lemon Tart($ 6) topped with powdered sugar. And finally, a Coconut Milk Pot de Crème($ 6) — dark chocolate spiced with cinnamon, all-spice, chili, and topped with whipped cream. The Lemon Tart was made in-house and the other two came from Sarah. While all three desserts were enjoyed, the tart Tart was the table’s favorite, and the Opera definitely scored a high note coming in a close second. Coffee and espresso were average. I really would have enjoyed a more robust coffee. Service was good. It was probably a young family member who was quite sufficient in seeing that our water glasses were kept filled. Different servers saw that food was promptly brought from the kitchen to our table and our main server was efficient without dropping a beat once the restaurant was over flowing. With our table being located in the back corner of the restaurant, the two votive candles did not give off sufficient light for me to read my menu and I had to resort to my phone’s flashlight app. But the atmosphere was perfect for dining. I’m rounding this up a half-star because they serve brown sugar cubes with coffee.
