Last weekend, my friends and I were vacationing in the area. We decided to hit up some wineries. This was the first winery that we went to and all the others we attended afterwards paled in comparison. For one, you just can’t beat the price of their tasting. $ 1 for 6 tastings. After paying, you go over to the bar and select from their list what wines you want to sample. I loved loved loved their Pink Catawba wine. It’s like a white Zinfandel(which really is not my style) but it just has such an interesting taste. It’s drier than most white zins and not as sweet. Then, it has a kick at the end. It’s wonderful and I’ve never had anything quite like it. Also the bottle is cheap! It’s like $ 9. While the wine was wonderful, it was the staff that made it extra special. Our bartender was a younger girl– mid 20s– and she was just so friendly and helpful. She helped us plan our afternoon and helped us select the other wineries for the day. While she never said anything bad about any of her competitors, she made it clear which wineries were worth visiting. All in all, great value, great wine, amazing staff! Don’t miss this place!

Really nice atmosphere, a lot of wood and a large tasting bar. The wine was okay. The sweeter wines were better, whereas the red dry wines seemed to have a sweet after-taste and weren’t as good as at other places we tried. If you like sweet wines this winery would likely be more enjoyable.

Decent sampling and friendly staff. And yes, they do charge for sampling, but it will not break the bank. $ 1 for 5 samples is pretty nominal, IMHO. While some may be turned off by requiring patrons to pay for sampling, I suspect this may be a Pennsylvania regulatory issue. Some states do not permit an establishment to give away alcoholic beverages for free. I also imagine most vineyards don’t really care to invite folks who complain about paying a $ 1 sampling fee. Worth the stop on the Erie wine trail.

5 wine samples for $ 1! ii am so there. they have this great and unique wine called Kir, which honestly tastes just like a sweet tart. the holiday spice was also a stand out. staff is very knowledgeable. the gift shop was nice; they had a lot of wine-related memorablia to peruse through. there was a lotion made from grapes that smelled so good. the wines themselves are not at all expensive, around $ 10 for a bottle. they have a self-guided tour, which was lame but still better than some other wineries in the area, considering that they don’t offer any kind of tour. there were about 7 plaques that you walk through and read that explain the wine making process, but not in great detail. if you were looking to learn about how they make certain wines and the little details, then you would be disappointed. the tour ends at the outside patio, which overlooks a part of the vineyard. nice place to enjoy a glass of wine.

My wife and I were in town over the holidays to visit families and we decided to swing by a few wineries in the area. We stopped at Penn Shore and it was much like it was in the past. Except for one thing: Charging for sampling. Now, I can certainly see why they would do this, especially if people want to come in and sample wine with no intention of buying anything. However, I had the full intention of buying at least one bottle of wine(which I did). Perhaps what they can do is refund that dollar when you purchase a bottle of wine. After all, I didn’t know which wines of theirs that I would like when I showed up. However, if I decided to leave without buying anything, they can certainly keep my dollar. Aside from nickel and diming their customers, it is a good winery to visit. Definitely take the self guided tour for a bit of behind the scenes look at how their operations run.

I went to the winery when I was in town for my nephew’s christening. The weather was rainy and so my bro and I stopped in for a tasting. The people who work here are friendly and let us try whatever we cared for and also made some suggestions. We ended up buying a couple of bottles and drinking them. Definitely a nice surprise while visiting Erie.
