Earned 2 stars for cleanliness. However, after waiting to be served let alone greeted, getting our own menus, we walked out after pretty much being ignored.

Food is great. Service is great. Food came out quickly. Very satisfied with it. Been here once before, best experience so far. Little pricey when adding items, or substituting. Totally worth it.

We got a Carne Asada burrito, three Carne Asada tacos and a chicken taco, both soft on the corn tortillas. They do have chips and salsa I haven’t seen a review that said they do and it’s pretty good! They have seven four-person tables and one longer table that could probably hold about eight. You can make reservations I saw that it’s a good idea to do if you have a big group. You can bring your own bottle wine we saw people doing that they may have a corkage fee but I’m not sure cause we didn’t bring a bottle wine who brings wine to Mexican food places. I come from orange county so I know a lot of good taco places and Mexican food and this is actually pretty good for being a little shack looking place but don’t let the appearance fool you it’s legit! The waitress had almost every single table filled she was the only waitress and guess what she was better than half the big restaurants I’ve gone to as far as service! Very attentive and courteous! If you’re driving by the area are staying in the North Fork area, it’s definitely one of the restaurants you need to eat out at. And from what I saw online they seem to make a new specials menu every week which leads me to believe that the cooks know what they’re doing and they’re good at what they’re doing!

Some of the best sopes I’ve ever had! There’s a reason why they are #1 on the menu. The pork was lean and tender. Lots of lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. It’s a big plate so arrive with a big appetite. Friendly and personal service, too! Reminds me of a place I would find back home in El Paso, TX.

The Miguel Burger is off the hook. It is my favorite burger in the Mountain area. I know it’s a Mexican cuisine restaurant, but still…

Forgetaboutit !!! This place is absolutely good home country mexican fixins !. Stopped by for lunch in March 2015. The grub was goooood !. I will definitely stop by again when I past through the neighborhood. Smooth black bean touch. I would like to try everything on the menu. Nice friendly dine spot in the small North Fork country town in the woods.

This place is a hidden gem. Not your run of the mill Mexican restaurant. A small family owned operation. Opened Tuesday through Saturday. You should call ahead to get a reservation otherwise you may be disappointed. Their traditional Mexican food is excellent. I really like the street tacos. They are juicy and plentiful. The real treat here are the Specials. Every week they have three specials they offer for the week. They usually have a fish dish, a chicken dish and a beef or pork dish. These usually are cooked with some special sauces. We have never been disappointed. They are super friendly and accommodating. Oh, they only deal with cash.

First off the waitress was not very pleasant. She came off as very annoyed and like she hates her job. The chips brought to us were pretty stale. The salsa was ok. I ordered the enchalidas. The meat inside was good. But they lacked any flavor. There was no sauce on them only lettuas, diced tomatoes and sour cream. Beans and rice lacked flavor and I had rice that so dry I thought they were rocks. Overall I would only go there if there was nothing else to eat Such limited seating, cash only and only so so food. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The first test is always the chips | salsa and it was very good. We had asada tacos, the Verde enchiladas and flan. All very good. Service friendly. The best places are always the little hole in the wall and this place will not disappoint.

OMG! I love this place… and I have never even stepped inside. Whenever I visit Bass Lake, I make the short drive to North Fork for lunch so I can indulge my craving for their delicious street tacos. One of each: chicken, pork, carne asada, because I can never decide which I like the most. I order from the little window outside and eat on the rustic patio or take my order to go. This time I decided to try something new based on some of the comments here on Unilocal(and hearing both of the men in line in front of me order it). The pork torta! Holy black beans!!! It was delicious! My new favorite. So good, in fact, that I made a trip back the next day for another one. Yum. The only problem is, while I was waiting for my order, I started really looking at the handwritten menu placed in the window. There it was…#10…chilaquiles!(And the angels sang.) So, now I have another item I MUST try at La Cabana. And I can hardly wait. So few places seem to make them well, but this place no doubt does. Ah, something to look forward to on my next trip. The place is small, very affordable(cash only), worth the drive. The people who work there are super friendly and helpful. They have posted hours, but you might want to call ahead just to be sure they are open. Made the drive one Saturday only to find they were closed for the day(a note written on a paper plate and tacked to the door told me so). Don’t be fooled by the, uh, «low maintenance» appearance — this place is worth a try. You will be hooked!

Great place to eat. We ordered a chicken and asada soft tacos, along with veggie enchiladas and a egg entrée that I can’t recall(# 10 on the menu) The tacos with cilantro and lime were phenomenal. Really enjoyed the salsa too, very fresh. Also ordered tea and was pleasantly surprised by a peach pomegranate tea that went really well with my meal.

Great Mexican food in an out of the way place. We lucked in to this restaurant while traveling to Yosemite(thanks to the Unilocal reviews!). The outside was a little sketchy and the ambience not much of anything but the food? Delicious! Not at all greasy, very fresh, all homemade. Wish it were closer. One of the best Mexican meals I’ve had in ages.

This is one of our VERY favorite restaurants in the Mountain area. We drive over from Oakhurst at least twice a month to have dinner at La Caban’a. There are usually 3 dinner specials each weekend in addition to the regular menu choices. We have tried most everything on the menu and always one person in our party will have a special dinner. We have always enjoyed anything served at this great little rustic place in the small town of North Fork. The service is very good, Patricia(owner) is always very welcoming, and so is the wait staff. Make a reservation, there is limited seating inside. But more tables outside on the patio with a take out window to order and pickup on the way home. Prices are moderate, food is presented with several sides on your plate. There are some good wine and beer choices to go with your meal. It’s worth the short drive for a nice evening.

We had lunch there very early on a Saturday. Pleasant room, looks out on wooded hills/mountains; pretty area worth a trip just for the drive. Nicely decorated. Claimed to open at 10:30; didn’t but only 10 or 15 minutes late. I’d be irate if they closed early for no good reason but not for this. The waitress was quite pleasant. Not fast food but I didn’t expect that. I had the Sope and my wife had the Molotes. We each sampled both and we liked both a lot. It’s a good amount for a reasonable price. Then we shared a chocolate pudding desert which we also liked a lot. Good food, pleasant atmosphere, good service, beautiful area, reasonable price; what’s not to like? I’d go back for sure.

What can I say. Another perfectly cooked meal from La Cabana. Still my favorite Mexican restaurant in the mountains. The family that runs and owns it are so nice too. You won’t regret coming here. I promise. My only gripe isn’t about the food or service. Its about the parking lot. It could use some grading and new asphalt. They have some monster potholes… so don’t drive the Porsche or the Vette… lol. I would still eat here if I had to park down the street and walk to be honest. Oh. almost forgot… make a reservation. it gets busy here.

It took me many years to pass through North Fork on a day and time this restaurant happened to be open, but I’m glad I finally did. In fact I might just have to go out of the way to come back. The bottom line here is a small menu, mostly of authentic reigonal Mexican food, and a few items with a bit more modern twist. The tacos were just perfect, un-fooled-around with, just the way I would expect from a true Mexican food experience. The black beans oozed across the plate with a delicious, almost soup-like consistency. The chocolate dessert was quite tasty, without being overly sweet. Across the board, the food had a uncommon level of refinement for such authentic Mexican fare, not surprising considering the chef/owner’s genesis at some rather upscale restaurants. The server was also incredibly pleasant, and made the guests feel as if they were dining in a welcoming, home-like environment. The main drawbacks to this restaurant, great as the food is, are the logistics. At best North Fork is a place you pass through to get somewhere else, and the very limited hours at La Cabana don’t really synergize with the times I tend to pass through town. Furthermore, the restaurant is quite small(maybe 20 seats), so you could easily find yourself without a table if you don’t call ahead or hit the dinner rush just right. However, there is a take-out window, open any time the restaurant itself is. Bring your wallet, as it is a cash-only establishment. Anyway, if you’re searching for a hidden gem, this is the definition of that term. I think I see a carnitas burrito in my future!

I went here for lunch today. The pork torta was amazing and the horchata was excellent. The lunch menu is fairly small but the dinner menu looks very interesting and I’ll be coming back for that. Went back for dinner, I had a wet pork burrito, my friends had one of the specials, pork spare ribs and the other had chicken enchiladas. All very good. My burrito was one of the best I’ve had and I live in San Francisco, so I’ve had a few. Really a great little restaurant.
