Bob’s is now Joe’s!
New ownership! Went in there the other day. I loved Bob’s, but Joe is doing such a great job at keeping a cozy vibe with great coffee!
And i am pretty sure on weekends they are open later for the late night bar crowd in the area!
So excited to see Joe’s grow in NoHo

FINALLY a coffee shop in this area I can wrap my head around. It’s low key, and somehow in the midst of a town where everyone wants to talk louder than the others and be heard for whatever reason… Bob’s magnages to be an ACTUAL coffee spot where you can have quiet conversations, read, work, whatever, without feeling like you’re on an audition for the Real (lame) World.
There’s creativity in the air in this little spot, and the coffee and teas are great. Not overpriced. I think they have some open mics or something too, will definitely check that out.
All about that Bob!

WE LOVE BOB’S! He is an amazingly sweet and laid back guy who hosts lots of different artists in his small space. My hubby and I actually got to see his band perform there and they were really, really good! Like Willie Nelson meets the Black Keys with a twist of Johnny Cash. The coffee is also VERY good. He gets it from Seattle, it’s strong but not bitter or harsh. very mellow just like Bob himself!

Amazing coffee great personality fun atmosphere. A must try when your in the neighborhood…

I first found this place while searching for an open mic to work out some material for stand up. I instantly fell in love with it… it was cozy with an artistic vibe.
Over the last month I have come to enjoy writing during the day here. It’s usually empty; which I appreciate not being bothered by adjacent loud conversations (such as in starbucks etc). Bob the owner seemed cool. As well, the staff cool enough.
Typically, I order a beverage and every now and again a snack. Today, however, I decided to do some writing before an appointment and I intended on returning after my appointment at which time I would have gotten my usual drink and snack.
Obviously I owe no explanation of what my schedule is like to the owner. I was extremely turned off when Bob ask me if I needed anything to which I responded «no thanks, I’m good for now.» and his reply was «well I mean you’re sitting here…» I told him I’d be back a later and have something then… he stood looking at me for 3 seconds, shook his head and walked off. I can take a hint.

Bob, I can appreciate, and am fully aware, that you are running a business. However, I would think that establishing and maintaining a relationship with RETURNING customers would be more valuable to you versus the $ 4 +tip I usually spend in one given day in there. I STILL tipped $ 5 for the 1 hour I spent in there. That’s the last I’ll spend at your establishment.
Really unfortunate because I truly enjoyed that little café.

Not Bitter, Just Disappointed

This is a little piece of heaven on earth, for GOOD ESPRESSO lovers.

…at this quirky, bohemian little coffee house in NoHo that pours out some sweet sweeet espresso dranx.
The vanilla latte tasted full, rich, bold and creamy. You wouldn’t have even known it was de-​caffeinated. Dude, do you even know how tough it is to find a place that does righteous de-​caff espresso drinks? Yup, minor miracle.
Whatever coffee beans they use are magically excellent. Absolutely no unpleasant bitterness in the latte. My super-​awesome coffee cohort friend who drove us out here said the latte was good too.
Feels kind of dark inside Bob’s Espresso Bar, even during the day. You probably wouldn’t hang out here for long, but there is seating. A few tables dot the inside, plus at front there’s a leatherette tufted black lounger you can kick back at for a few.
Barista cashier man was efficient, nice and very patient. You’d have to be, with a turtle like me.
Kudos, Bob’s Espresso Bar. Anyone cruising through this ‘hood, don’t hesitate to grab a cuppa here.
Tasty RIGHTEOUS stuff.

I had 24 hours in LA and was too early to check in to the hotel. Took a ride over to the NoHo (North Hollywood) Arts District and found Bob’s Espresso Bar on Lankershim Boulevard for a cup of coffee. This place was recommended to me by a friend. This place is also owned and ran by Bob Romanus. Bob is the guy who played ‘Mike Damone’ in the 80’s movie ‘Fast Times At Ridgemont High.’ I got to meet Bob very briefly as he had to leave the shop but he’s cool. I sat down and had a fantastic Americano. The coffee shop is no frills and looks like a good place for artists to hang out.

I drink coffee black, so I have certain expectations from any black coffee, espresso or otherwise.
Having a long black can be one of two experiences: a beautifully balanced blend and grind extracted over adequately hot water, rich frontal notes of chocolate or cocoa or both, and the timely expanding characters of fruits or woods, leather, damp earth. Conversely it is more often a terribly extracted shot thrown over too-​hot water, acidic and bitter all at once, a short and unfulfilling palate, and general coffee anguish. There was a taste of something chemical in there too, perhaps the machine had scaled up and lime and chlorine were tainting the coffee.
Bob’s falls into the latter sadly, but as I say I drink coffee black. If I were into milk I wouldn’t need to taste the coffee, it’s merely there to colour it.

There’s not much I can add to the chorus of praise here, but Bob Romanus’ coffee house in North Hollywood (NoHo Arts District) has a cozy, industrial chic décor with excellent coffee. I don’t drink cappuccino or lattes, much less those fancier Starbucks concoctions (I prefer wine to desserts and after 40, one must prioritize).
But the prices are really low vs Starbucks or NYC coffee houses.
The live music is terrific and you can get a beer and bratwurst at District next door. I don’t know if it’s as good as Berlin Currywurst but everything I saw at the tables where I drank my Allegash was excellent.
It’s a rare thing in LA: an independent coffee house with a sense of community, but Bob’s is really lovely.

I love trying new espresso bars – too bad I was totally ignored.
I made a special trip to Bob’s to try it out. I walked in and stood at the counter for several minutes. Nobody was around. Nobody came out to help. I stood there patiently waiting. .for quite a bit… nothing.
Finally, I left. No coffee for me…
I did notice under a cake plate there were about 8 – 12 mini cupcakes/​muffins that LITERALLY looked like the frosting had been licked off. I know that certainly cannot be the case – but it sure looked like it.

If you’re looking for a calm environment to read or write this is it. They also have plenty of outlets by each table to charge your phone or laptop.
Try the dirty chai latte, it’s the best I’ve ever had!

I almost hesitate to write how I really feel about Bob’s because I love the fact that I can come here every day, sit at one of the tables, and just work for hours. If it gets too popular, I might lose my regular table. In the end, though, keeping Bob’s around is worth losing my favorite spot.
Very few places in Los Angeles, in my experience anyway, have that homelike, community feel, but Bob’s is one of them. Maybe I’m biased because I will always choose to spend an extra dollar at a mom and pop shop over lining the pockets of corporate vampires, but Bob’s just feels different to me. If you’re looking for a cookie cutter, mass produced Starbucks or Coffee Bean, move on – this is not your place. But if you’re looking for a staff that knows your face and begins pouring your regular drink the second you walk in the door, maybe Bob’s is worth a look.
Owned by Fast Times at Ridgemont High’s Bob Romanus, the space itself is an artist’s haven. New and different kinds of art line the walls, and the music nights benefit from superior acoustics. It’s more than just a coffee shop. It’s a community jewel worth preserving.
It might cost an extra dollar for a drip coffee, but it’s a dollar well spent.

Came based on the recommendations of Unilocal.I ordered the Bob’s Dirty Chai ($ 4.20) which was decent drink with good flavor of chai and espresso. All espresso drinks made with 2 shots so it definitely kept me going. All drinks were also prepared with such care and good friendly service. Seems like they have open mic on occasion, so it could be a cool place to check out. May come back if I’m in the area.

Such a cool place to be and be part of.
I work nights but I now have my new hang out for good coffee, snacks and some interesting nights of jazz, comedy and more on my nights off.

Bob’s is a totally unique little coffee shop, with a welcoming and super hip vibe, unique artwork, cozy and yet artsy décor, an amazingly friendly staff, A+ coffee, and great prices. I come here all the time before class, or to meet up with friends, who also can’t get enough of this place. Who would want to go to a chain coffee shop, when you can come here instead? Once you check it out, no doubt, you’ll agree;)

Stopped in for a cup o’ joe and some conversation. I admit the coffee snob in me was worried about the drip as there weren’t a lot of people there and it was mid-​afternoon, but it was exactly what I needed, dark and complex. I will definitely return to Bob’s for a pick-​me-​up whenever I find myself on the NoHo strip.

I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed myself every time I’ve come to Bobs. It’s an intimate space with high ceilings and walls covered in intriguing artwork. The smell of fresh coffee greets you at the door and so does the home-​like feel of the space. I personally grab a hot house coffee and add a little cream. It’s delicious and will definitely put some pep in your step.
The thing I appreciate the most about
Bob, the owner, is that he allows for musicians and artist to use the space for open mic nights on Wednesdays and Sumdays for original music, poetry, monologues, and creative expressions. Friday Is the night for stand up comedy at bobs. It’s a friendly and loving crowd who want you to do well and appreciate that you even came. The regulars are warm, easy going artists and very personable. You never know what unique talents will be on display at bobs. The artwork seems to change weekly and it’s a pleasant surprise to see local art displayed in a place that’s vital to the valley’s artistic community.

Only thing good in here is the art,
I have given this place about 8 chances. I ordered different drinks, had different employees, and each time left with a bad experience (or worse, a bad drink!) they seem confused at the basic things I’ve asked or brought up like non dairy creamer?
I also am not willing to pay a dollar more than Starbucks for a smaller size? Get larger cups!
Anyways, I had high hopes for this place and hope they start to care a little more… Noho needs another coffee stop besides Starbucks!

Was walking my dog where friendly people hangin out at Bob’s espresso bar started talking to me and I found out there is open mic that night for all types of Artists. Music, Poetry, Comedy, Acting etc. whatever u want to share!
went back again & there was open mic for stand up comedy ! fun! This is a place that makes you wanna go back.
