I came across this unique lunch spot and noticed on their menu the Oscar Wylde sandwich which is curry chicken salad with cashews, a sandwich I love. After waiting 15 minutes my sandwich arrives. I noticed others after me got their orders first, mine must of been misplaced. The curry salad was delicious just my toasted bread was cold and my side of vegi’s were missing their seasoning I read about. I had to go to the counter and ask them to add the seasoning which they forgot. Sandwich was tasty just bad experience.

A hidden Gem in NoHo! Very cute Antique themed café with fantastic fresh sandwiches makes for a great lunch spot for 2! The Tattoo Sandwich is a must try! The fresh veggies with pepper they serve on the side is one of my favorite quirks about their menu. Their dessert selection tastes homemade and they offer a nice selection of coffee that we will be coming back to try(maybe during one of the open mic nights we saw advertised!)

Cool atmosphere. Writers come here to get away from the crowded coffee spots. Smoothies and sandwiches are good.

Quality food. I love this place! I get the veggie sandwich it’s always huge. The veggies on the side are always seasoned to perfection. They have these banana and watermelon mint drinks that I love! The people that work there seem cranky all the time. So make sure you tip them so this lil gem stays open.

After coming here for about 3 years now for my favorite salad. I feel it’s finally a good time to write an honest review. The food is descent but can be over priced for the inconsistency. For the longest time they used actual chicken breast and added croutons to my particular salad. However, they have raised their prices and have changed the chicken about three times, they are currently using a deli meat chicken and will usually skimp out on the croutons. When you buy from a restaurant you expect the consistency. They tend to get really busy and make you feel like a bother at times.

This spot is okay. It’s kitschy and cute. The food and coffee are pretty good. The hours, for a coffee shop, are pretty terrible. The staff may have been having a bad day but they were totally unprofessional, yelling in the back room about how the boss is screwing them. Too early in the morning for all that drama. I just wanted some coffee.

Grammie was in town and I thought this would be a good spot to take her. She’s the pickiest eater I’ve ever met and always spends about 10 minutes negotiating with restaurants to modify their existing menu options to her liking. I figured the«design your own» sandwich option would make her day. To my great surprise, she ordered a cobb salad with no modifications and said it was one of the best salads she’d ever had. I went with a vegan sandwich(they have veganaise) and their coconut smoothie(naturally vegan). Both were really good. There’s nothing else on the menu that’s vegan, but these are good enough to keep me coming back. If they added more vegan options, I’d probably come back more often. The décor is wonderful and the service is super friendly.

Always a nice environment in there. I like how they make their lattes and their sandwiches are also A+. I’ve been there at least 10 times now and never disappointed. Try the Frankenstein sandwich!

Really good food made by nice people with an old Fashion kind of general store/soda shoppe/dinner. It’s full of actors. Only downside is they allow smoking in front of the store actors smoke nonstop.

Guys, this place is just great! It’s easy to miss, as it is located on a street that goes un-noticed. I stopped by this place the other day for some lunch and just loved it! When you walk in you feel like you stepped into some southern house or some western saloon that caters to only the finest cowboys in the land. So much cool stuff inside, the ceiling covered with hanging baskets and pots and pans, sattles chillin on the walls and a cool fireplace thingy in the middle. There is also a small stage up front surrounded by barrels and other festive things. They do open-mic stuff on Tuesdays I believe and I would love to come back for that! They are great at making sandwhiches here, with a awesome selection of all different types. I ordered the Blue sandwich which was warm and delightfully filled with blue cheese and other festive things. It was great! Lovely friendly staff here that says they have been there for 20 years! Who knew?! I would defeintly recommend coming here for some lovely coffee and lunch or if you instagrammers want to take some rustic pictures of a cool little place. It feels like I’m in my moms kitchen. Thanks for the good time Gahuenga General Sto!

Synopsis: come for the sandwiches and a unique space to work, I’d skip the coffee. I had to check out the General Store in the middle of North Hollywood. Entering the space is like stepping back and slowing down a bit. There’s also a ton to look at. Just down the block is the Iliad bookstore — grab a book from the Iliad and have lunch at the General Store. I work remotely and I’m always looking for interesting places to work for a few hours at a time. Free wifi was listed on the Unilocal info, the food looked good and the space was unique, so I thought I’d check it out. There are a few bigger tables but many are smaller and just big enough for a laptop. The place wasn’t too busy on Thursday late afternoon, so I was able to grab a sandwich and get some work done. It was perfect. I had a hard time deciding on the sandwiches, but I ended up ordering the Medusa which was fantastic. Feta cheese, olives, avocado, lettuce, tomato. It was all really fresh. The bread seemed to be bit of a bland choice compared to the ingredients, but overall it was so good I overlooked that. I respect a place that can do sandwiches with some originality. Raw veggies seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic(I think) come on the side. It was a nice change of pace from fries or chips — although you can substitute chips on the side, and I can’t say that I wasn’t tempted to do that. I also ordered cranberry oatmeal cookies, because, well, I love cookies. They were small, the perfect size — $ 1 for 2. I do wish they had chocolate in them. On my way out the door, I got an iced mocha to go. I tend to judge places on the mochas, and I can’t say that I was crazy about this one. I’m not sure if it was the syrup or espresso that I didn’t like. I need to remember to skip places that use a chocolate syrup for mochas. The staff was friendly and just attentive enough. You could tell that many of the staff were actors or workings towards being actors and that vibe is always fun to be around.

It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the Cahuenga General Store has a charming rustic feel on the inside. It’s very home-y, especially if all the lights are turned on. This place is what I imagine what general stores looked like in the Old West. The food quality was above average. It’s hard to choose from their sandwiches listed on their menu because they all sounded so good! I ended up choosing the«Jack,» which is a perfectly crafted sandwich consisting of: turkey, swiss cheese, red peppers, mayo, and their homemade pesto sauce all between two toasted slices of sourdough bread. The sandwiches also come with lightly seasoned veggies(carrot sticks and cucumber slices). I think the flavors mixed well with each other, but the pesto sauce was the star of the sandwich. The pesto flavor may be overbearing to some, but it’s definitely what this sandwich needed to give it that distinct flavor. This place is a cool little hole-in-the-wall café for sandwiches and coffee.

Within the General store I love the true to its name appearance and awesome vintage Anericana collectibles. Historical ARTifacts adorn the walls and blend personal history with coffee and great sandwiches! When is the live music?! Definitely coming back!

I feel like I just stepped off the Oregon trail in this amazing rustic general store. I give these guys serious points for creativity and authenticity in what seems like the middle of nohowhere. Food is so creative and different it’s the perfect place to grab a quick breakfast coffee or a great lunch. The Blue bird is out of this world although I usually sub the Swiss and the Californian is classic and light with delicious avacado! The breakfast sandwich is also to die for and their croissants melt in your mouth! Would 1000% recomend this gem to anyone I come across and love spreading the word. On another note the staff is always wicked friendly and accommodating which is always a big plus for me. So be prepared to step back in time and have an amazing experience on Cahuenga!

Found this on Unilocal because it was near somewhere I was going. Followed the map on my phone to the doorstep and couldn’t believe there was a café here. The trees are overgrown at this shabby building and there was stuff shoved up against the windows on the inside. The windows were damaged from tagging and it looked abandoned. A junk shop boarded up and left. I kept going, looking for something else. Checked the Unilocal review again and then headed back. Tried the door, feeling silly at how reluctant I had been, and walked into a true old-fashioned general store. Made my way through the bent cane chairs and café tables to the counter. The menu is a bit daunting for a first timer and I was starving so it made decision making difficult. Lots of sandwiches and salads to choose from. Good coffee and friendly service. There’s one guy at the counter and another guy doing all the cooking. It’s very down home, simple goodness. Sat at a table and used the wifi to get some work done. It’s surprisingly difficult to find a place to use a computer while getting a bite to eat. I got a turkey avocado on croissant. It came in a charming paper-lined basket with crudités sprinkled with salt and pepper. I may never eat cucumber again without pepper! The sandwich was fantastic. A fresh light croissant with a generous amount of turkey and avocado. I was very happy. The food is very good. The location leaves something to be desired but there isn’t much here so in that case, it’s sorely needed. They had a small stage so they must do live music here. But what it really needs is a bit of cleaning. It looks like they moved a restaurant in without changing anything. There’s so much stuff stacked up on the shelves here that I couldn’t tell if some of it – jewelry and such — was for sale or if it had been left here. What was a prop and what might actually be merchandise was not clear.

This what I have got to say about this place. It feels like home. I’m in my friends mom’s kitchen and we’re home from school. Next stop from the kitchen is the living room to play a board game or watch the newest episode of The Simpsons. Hey I like it in here. Enough said.
