Went in for a tuneup on my 77 bus and Walt was quick and efficient. Had a minor problem with a loose wire and he fixed for no charge.
Expert classic VW mechanics can be a challenge to find. This is my second air cooled bus so I have learned to be able to tell the difference between a good and a great VW mechanic. He has a deep knowledge vintage VWs. He says wiring and electronics are one of his his specialties but I haven’t had a chance to test that out yet.
He’s not cheap but his prices are fair. He uses OEM Bosch parts, which is really great. He doesn’t even ask if you want after market parts because, really, if you have an old VW the extra cost is nothing compared to the piece of mind of a properly running vehicle.
I highly recommend.

I tried United because my normal Bug Guy was too busy. I’m not disappointed. Excellent work and great prices. I will absolutely be bringing my baby back here.

I recently purchased a 1973 Volkswagen Beetle from Craigslist and the car needed a lot of work. Walter quickly rebuilt the engine, replaced a bumper, fixed a shaking steering wheel, and fixed an oil leak. His work on my car has been exceptional. I would definitely recommend the shop for anyone who owns one of these wonderful little cars. Thank you Walter! :)

What a relief to find a repair shop and mechanic you can trust. Their specialty is Volkswagens (they work on other cars only when they’re not so busy). Walter and his crew are the best. So good, you want to keep buying Volkswagens so you can keep getting your car service done here!
I just had my rear brakes done this week. I had called around for quotes from shops closer to my house. Walter had the best estimate, and ultimately they did the work for exactly what he quoted. I own a 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle and have taken my car here several times. I continue to be impressed with the work. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and the work they did on my car was done quickly and correctly. I highly recommend these guys as they are honest and do a great job.

Wouldn’t take my VWs to anybody else! Walter is great at fixing them and is honest and his prices are reasonable. AND — VERY IMPORTANT — he uses the BEST parts (not parts made in China!)

If you have an air cooled, this is the only place to go. I used to live a couple of miles away and would go to Walter when I needed to. But, I moved quite a long way away and was going to another «VW mechanic». Sorry I ever did. I now make the long drive to United and Walter and i know I won’t get ripped off. This guy really knows air cooled VWs and works quickly. If he tells you you need something believe him, he’s honest.

I’ve been going to Walter at United for many years to maintain my little darling yellow 1970 Ghia. He’s very kind and friendly, and is a master at what he does. After wasting so much money at another place (that has since gone out of business), they still couldn’t get it to run smoothly and idle normally. They’d rebuild the carb every 6 months, among other things! I gave up on them and took it to Walter. In a few minutes he tweaked my carburetor and made a couple of adjustments, and guess what? It purrrrred! That was it for me.
Walter is trustworthy, won’t overcharge you or recommend work you don’t need. I like that he tries to save you money. His work is excellent, and I highly recommend him to anyone who has a classic VW. I see other makes of cars there too, and lots of repeat customers. It feels like family when I go, and his son works with him sometimes.

I was recommended to walters about 6 years ago he is the only person i trust I’ve had my transmission rebuilt and countless mechanic fixes walter is very honest and affordable i live in whittier and i travel all the way to van nuys for him i strongly suggest you give united auto a try walter thank you for never charging me for something my car did not need.

I’ve been waiting to post my review of Walter’s shop because I really want to do it justice.
I only trust Walter to take care of my GTI. He is honest, reliable and his prices are fair. He has never recommended work that I don’t need, and he always gives me a heads up when he notices something amiss. Sometimes he has made quick fixes or part replacements without charging me. On top of this, he’s a charming, friendly guy with a warm (albeit greasy) handshake.
A good friend of mine sent me this way, and now I send all my friends with VWs. If you own a VW, this is the only place to get your work done. Simple as that.

If you have a classic VW and need a great and reliable mechanic. Walter is your guy. Since I bought my bug. Walter is the only man other then myself that I trust to work on my engine. And has kept my 72 bug running strong. He has great skill and knowledge of Vw’s. Wish I could rate higher lol

If you are an owner of a classic VW vehicle, this is the best place in the Valley to go for your needs. My bf owns a 79 VW van he’s kept for many years. He’s tried a few mechanics over the years and none of them compare to Walter and the guys who work there. The last place prior to United Auto couldn’t figure out what was wrong with his van and wasted 400 bucks. After that fiasco, I looked around on the net to find him a mechanic who specializes in VW’s and came across his website. Walter was able to figure out the problem and fixed it. I believe he said he used to work for VW back when he lived in Germany hence has extensive experience in the brand. About 3 years later, he still goes to Walter.
His work is great and his prices are reasonable. In addition, he guarantees his work. As long as Walter’s shop is around, this is the only place we would recommend to anyone.
P. S. He does work on other car brands, not just VW’s!

i bought a few parts from this place. i have to since vw parts are getting hard to find at local stores. they always have at least 2 – 3 old beetles around the shop. looks like they do clean work. would definatly recommend them to anyone who needs work done on their classic vdub. the owner (long hair guy) is very nice and always helpful, he even gave me a free part once.
