Just to give a little bit of background, this place opened(from what I can remember) sometime in like maybe late 2007 or 2008. The original owner was VERY nice(and so were the employees), the frozen yogurt was pretty good although it was only ~4 flavors… the toppings were fresh fruit and some nuts and other stuff. But… I believe it was sometime over last spring or summer of 2010, they closed down for quite a while and I suppose the owner sold the business to someone else cause when I went back for their«grand opening» let me tell you… it SUCKED. The service was bad, the owner didn’t even look interested that he customers just walked in, the layout was a little messy since he added those self-serve machines and some other stuff in there… blahh I can go on forever. Anyway, the frozen yogurt selection was interesting, not my style though… wasn’t feeling the ‘healthy’ vibe that you usually get at these froyo places. The fruit also didn’t look fresh, like another Unilocaler said it was pretty much frozen fruit from the winn-dixie freezer section down the plaza. With that said, after that visit, I had not gone back since. Although I have passed by since I went to watch a movie a couple times at the theater next door, and noticed that this place pretty much closed down. At least that’s what I think… correct me if I’m wrong though. I don’t blame people if they’re not going there!

Slimyogurt recently reopened after a summer renovation — I always liked the place before, with its 4 tart flavors of yogurt and fresh toppings, and was thrilled to hear that it was reopening as a self-serve yogurt place. Unfortunately, my visit was very disappointing. The yogurt selection was fine — plain tart(my choice, which was okay, not great), pomegranate, blueberry, cookies and cream, and a few other choices. My husband had the cookies and cream, which he said had an odd aftertaste. Interestingly, it appears Slimyogurt has also beefed up their non-yogurt menu — there were several food items on the overhead menu, including baked potatoes. The previously fresh toppings are no more — instead, Slimyogurt offers frozen, barely thawed fruit… my strawberries were coated in chunks of ice. I’d previously enjoyed bananas in my yogurt, but there were no bananas in the self-serve bar. Most of the non-frozen fruits appeared to be from a can(peaches, canned & syrupy cherries), except for some semi-fresh looking blueberries. As I only tried the strawberries, I can not attest to the actual taste of the other toppings… except to say that they weren’t inspiring enough to make it into my yogurt. The toppings and yogurt alone wouldn’t necessarily be enough to merit the one star rating(though the price, $ 15 for two relatively small cups of yogurt, certainly leaves something to be desired), but the service during our visit was not very good. After I was done filling my cup of yogurt, the handle became momentarily stuck, and a dollop of yogurt dripped onto the grate. I figured this was par for the course(and it has been at the other self-serve places I’ve visited), but as I was getting my toppings, the sole employee began screaming at me and frantically pointing at the dollop I spilled. I apologized, explained that the handle was stuck, and offered to pay extra, but she simply rolled her eyes and exasperatedly rang us up. Overpriced yogurt, mediocre toppings, and unfriendly service? No thanks! Needless to say, we won’t be back. It’s well worth the extra 30 minutes to simply drive to Yogurtland in Pembroke Pines!

I had high hopes for this place — mainly because it’s about 2 minutes from my place. But unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be going back. There is something too haphazard about this place that doesn’t appeal to me. The layout is weird, and you don’t really know what’s going on when you walk in. There’s frozen yogurt, but there’s also regular ice cream, oh and a toppings bar, a fridge filled with sports drinks, an array of bagged nuts on display, and hot dogs. Yes, hot dogs. I also didn’t really see a sign that had any explanation as to self-service vs something else — or even prices. I decided on a scoop of ice cream, which the guy who greeted us told us he’d serve for us. But then, can I get toppings? Do they charge for that? I have no idea. And the ice cream? I got cookie dough — and wasn’t impressed. It tasted like it had been frozen too long — with some icicles in it. I don’t mind buying my ice cream at a kitschy place, that’s obviously a local business — but I just wasn’t feeling it.

I love this place. They serve great low-fat frozen yogurt and you get to sample each flavor before you decide to buy. The toppings are fresh fruits, nuts, and couple of other usual ice cream toppings like apple pie crumbs. The décor is very cute and modern and there’s wifi available. The two guys at the counter are very friendly and like to joke with customers. This is a great place for a healthy dairy fix. The only reason why it didn’t get 5 stars is that there are only four flavors available(green tea, yogurt, chocolate, and pomegranate they use to have mango which was my favorite), but you can always get yogurt and add one of the toppings to create a new flavor!

While on a recent trip to New York, my cousin got me addicted to a yogurt I was only able to find in New York. On a mission to find it in Miami, I checked every place I could think of and asked everyone I knew. Like the saying goes, you find what you’re searching for, when you’re no longer searching for it; I found my long awaited yogurt at Slimyogurt in front of the movie theatre. Jumping for joy, I tried every flavor and decided to go with half pomegranate, half regular, and as toppings; the mango, some cereal, and fresh strawberries. The yogurt is an all natural, low-calorie, fat free, and cholesterol free. It’s yogurt you either love or hate. I have taken many friends who dislike it, personally I can’t get enough. It is most definitely a must try; if your pallets are in sync with my review, it’s a place you might never stop visiting! (Check out my review on That Cool Café, same yogurt, more options!)

If you’re looking for a sweet and healthy treat to help cool down from the warm spring/summer days ahead, you should check out SlimYogurt. They serve all natural frozen yogurt in 4 flavors: plan, pomegranate, green tea, and chocolate. And for you health nuts out there, you’ll be happy to know that their yogurt is low-calorie, fat free, and cholesterol free. If you’re unsure which flavor you want, just ask to have the flavors combined into one cup and they’ll be happily to oblige. I mixed the pomegranate and green tea flavors and they were quite tasty considering they were«healthy.» As with other ice cream places, SlimYogurt has an array of toppings, but these are mainly fresh fruit, so if you’re looking for Oreo-bits, you’re out of luck. All around it’s a good place to grab a cool treat. Just expect to pay a little more considering it’s dessert that’s «better for you.» Also — if you sign up for their email list they send you notices about special deals.
