Tried the Kahuna Burger yesterday and it was the best burger I’ve had in San Diego! Compliments to the cook.

I’m a regular but I’m a little picky and straight forward. The cooks at U31 are very good cooks and whoever came up with the Andouille burger hit the nail on the head. When it comes to food I will tell it like it is. I ate half the burger and carried the other home to do a little experimenting, which I do periodically. The next morning I warmed the other half with a little olive oi, l fried an egg with the pickled okra that comes with the burger and it was on, loved it.

There are very few burger joints in this neighborhood. However a well kept secret is that this place has my favorite burger in the area! Had the Big Kahuna Burger and it was great, also my buddy got the veggie burger and that looked good too! Highly recommended!

Came in to have a few and try the new burgers they just dropped. I keep on going for the killer stuffed burger. Meat, cheese and chorizo for a full blown case of the meat sweats dialed to 11. Grab one, and your reaction will be similar to Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction after his first bite of a Big Kahuna burger… ” mmmmm, mmmmm,…that is a tasty burger…”

Out of all the bars in north park this is probably the last one on the list. They play decent hip hop on some night but all the times I’ve been there it’s more older music than what they play now. I like some throwbacks but you have to switch it up sometimes. Prices for drinks aren’t that bad but you get what you pay, for so the drinks aren’t that strong. I don’t think anyplace in north park should charge cover since they’re not night clubs like in downtown. Id rather go down the street to true north. A couple of friends and I went here not too long ago and the bouncer said my friend was banned but couldn’t say why. I’d figure you’d want more people inside.

Used to love going to this bar until last night. Lost phone and whilst searching for it got kicked out for taking up space. Interestingly enough bar wouldn’t let me back in to find it and ending up having to buy a new one.

Haven’t been here in years. And now I remember why. The short, bald Napoleon-Complexed GM just forced me to leave because he cut in front of me in the line and I called him an a**hole… He apparently was offended, explaining he was in a hurry to get somewhere while carrying his lemonade. Then proceeded to pull rank and state I would not cross. Any man who wouldn’t let a woman in before him(Black or not!) isn’t a man whose establishment I would patronize. Let me know how it is, not over 5′ 5″. At your own risk. That is not how you treat women. Period.

My review is for U-31 as a dance club, bar and music venue as I’ve never ordered food here or come in during the day(lol). U-31(located off University and 31st, haha) is very lively during Friday/Saturday night as they have music playing, a dance floor, the bar and tables. The DJ plays top 40/Hip-Hop/Rap but nothing too deep or on the end of the spectrum. Staff and security are cool. I actually came in this weekend and got right up to the door at 10:58pm and was still able to get in free by checking in on Unilocal haha. Cover was $ 5 after that I believe. Bartenders are a little more responsive here than at ‘True North’ down the street which makes coming here more enjoyable. The people here have ALWAYS been friendly, and I haven’t seen a fight break out or run into anyone with a bad attitude. I think we’re all just there to have some drinks and have a good time. Prices are standard North Park, $ 6 for a domestic bottle I believe. Mixed drinks range depending on what you get. They’re not dive prices but tbh, they’re not unbelievable like the prices you pay in upscale bars. I’ve wanted to come here during the week as they have all sorts of promotions and drink specials almost every night. I’ll have to stop by for one of those! Until next time, U-31!

Stopped by for Burger Week and was not disappointed. Walking inside the stage for musicians is directly to the left, the bar is along the right wall and the pool tables are in the far back. They have a few u-shaped seating booths along the far left wall. Flat screen televisions are abundant. We ordered at the bar, went to a booth to wait, then discovered if you stand by the open window and lean out a bit, the sunset is very beautiful. Excellent timing! My burger(Smokey Mountain Blue) was juicy and cooked medium, just the way I like. It came with barbecue sauce, blue cheese, lettuce, bacon and onions. The fries a bit dry, dipping them in ranch dressing helped. The draft pale ale beer paired nicely with the burger. Overall a nice experience, I’d come here again for the burger.

Do not come here expecting good drinks and a good atmosphere. The drinks are very over priced and not good. The place is way too shot out to charge 7.00 for a weak pineapple vodka. And don’t get me started on how bad the DJ was. Why did they hire such a bad DJ? I will say this a lot of people I know like it here. But I do not get it at all. Maybe I’m just not a North Park person. I don’t care to come here. It’s just not fun.

I was going to leave a 4 star but the fact I am laying next to my latest conquest from there tonight I think I need to add that 5th Super cool music, chill staff and environment. Sometimes it can get a little ratchet here but overall a good time. I used to come here when it opened and then once I moved back to NP started coming about once a week. Gets hot in here, no matter how cold outside, do not wear a sweater. Monday’s and Thursday’s are the upper tier nights here.

I only come to U-31 after work on Friday. My good friend and I try to get here no later than 5:30PM to find a good parking spot. Around this time the place only has a few patrons so the service is always great and the bartenders are friendly. When it comes to bar food, I am not picky. I just expect it to be hot out of the kitchen. U-31 never disappoints me in this area. The music varies from oldies to hip-hop but nothing vulgar or too loud, just nice background noise. Occasionally people will be playing pool and having beers. At around 9:00PM(I am not exactly sure of the time because I never check it) the bar turns into more of a club. Hip-Hop music is being played and security at the door is checking ID’s and they might be charging a cover. Again, we always come early. Also around this time one or two of the bartenders leave and new ones come on shift. This place can get crowded but I have never had a problem getting a drink quickly. We end up staying for a little bit, dancing and having one or two more drinks before heading home around 10:00PM. We get a nice happy hour and a club experience all-in-one. This is my favorite place to come after work on Friday. I have never had an issue with dress code, security, rude staff, or bartenders. Trust me, if I did I would tell you(see my Onyx review).

I went here for the first time last week. I like it here except the bouncer. They were unprofessional, bad attitude and always seems like they are not happy with their job or life. I mean, if u don’t like ur job… go somewhere else. It was my first time here and I ask him a question. He had a bad attitude. He need to be careful who he say things to and how he response to them cuz he can get his ass beat like that. I don’t care how big u are or where u come from. Came here for a birthday. Majority of the guys are wearing hats. When my friends come in with the logo«sd» on their hats, they got kicked out. Sorry, we are the customer. We are not a part of any gang. But that is very offensive. But there’s other guys in the bar with hats with logos. Bats in San Diego down town will hold your hat at the door, but this place won’t. This place is strict, but this ain’t downtown. I’m here with 20 plus people but cannot enjoy our time because 2 of our friends got kicked out with«SD» logo on their hats … Don’t come here. We live in SD. Good music but there’s a cover. Other than that … DONTWEAR A hat… Cause birthday boys night is ruined cause of this bar… I won’t be coming back and I will be telling my friends about this

I love this place! Definitely one of my favorites! I’ve been hear a handful of times! Some night for throwback Thursday’s and sometimes for karaōke Tuesday’s! Whatever the event may be its always a good time! The securities are always really friendly and chill! They are very welcoming every time I come here. Also the bartenders are super nice! One time a bartender hooked me up with a buttery nipple! She was really a lot of fun to talk to! The most recent time I went was for Tuesday Karaōke night! I would highly recommend Tuesday’s! It was $ 3 beers all night. Crazy right?! There are also regulars that come most Tuesday’s that always keep the place live and fun! One of them even bought me a birthday shot before! U-31 is all about environment and having fun! Most people there are very friendly and down to have a blast with you :)

Came here on a Thursday night around 7pm. It was pretty empty. There was a few people there for a birthday but we were all congregated by the bar so the rest of the place was empty. I normally only go clubbing here so it was weird seeing it so empty. I met with a friend and we ordered the steak nachos and grilled steak quesadilla. The nachos were rich in flavor. They add grilled onions and bell peppers in their steak. The quesadilla was good too. It was hearty and thick. Not your typically thin quesadilla. Their drinks aren’t too expensive. For about 3 drinks I spent $ 22. We played pool after dinner(4 quarters). They have 2 tables. There is typically cover($ 5 – 10) to come here and dance, but if you are already inside before 10pm you don’t have to pay cover. The DJ starts up around 10pm Thursdays is «Throwback Thursdays». Hip hop throwbacks. For a Thursday there was a decent full crowd. Not overly crowded like on the weekends. Only street parking available.

Honestly this place so sucks so bad. Their crowd is just super ghetto and the music is AWFUL. Its like worse than the music & crowd in downtown! This place used to be so fun a few years ago. What the hell happened?! There used to be cute guys here and girls with good style and there was even a really cool fashion show going on one time I went. They had sick bands all the time too.(Though the sound for live bands was all weird sounding.) Now it seems like the north park kids don’t even go here at all. Also another thing — I bartend and this bar is trying to have wannabe craft cocktails — for their ghetto crowd — You’re supposed to tip $ 2 – 5 each for craft drinks & I bet you anything these bartenders are only being tipped a dollar per drink. I feel really bad for them. If they want to do crafty drinks they should wipe out that crowd and try again. If they keep their crowd, they should just go back to basic drinks. Like vodka lemonade. That’s what should be served at a high volume bar like this. For the sake of the SPEED. You can’t make those crafty drinks fast. They would prolly make more money if they got rid of those drinks

If you want to watch sport events like Basketball, Football, Soccer, UFC, and boxing fights go here. There is usually a cover of $ 5 – 10 for fights and you may want to go early because there is limited seating, but plenty of standing room(if you don’t mind standing the whole time). The last times I have been here are mainly for fights. There isn’t a bad a area to stand or sit at. They have lots of TV’S, including huge projection screen tv. Yes, they serve food. Order some garlic fries or tater tots! You can’t go wrong with that. There are also 2 pool tables in the back, along with a photo booth! Later in the night they play music and depending on what night it could be hip hop night, reggae or edm. They clear all the tables from the floor. The bartenders are always cool and friendly!

Have come 2x — once for dinner and to watch MNF, the other during Sunday football. Not really any brunch options(other than a brunch burger), limited menu, but decent. Pricing reasonable. Very good french fries. Have had a turkey burger and ti is good — with a nice white meat turkey patty, good toppings. Have the mimosas — tasty, but $ 4 each. Should offer a all you can drink option or a bottle of sparking and some juice. Place is pretty divey. Table was a bit sticky when we sat down, but the friendly bartender wiped it down quickly. Service seems to be only at the bar, though they’ll bring out your food to you. Seems to be a NY Giants hang out. A few Chargers fans, but not many(though with their season, not surprising).

Great place for cheap stiff drinks!!! came here for a simple night on the town with some friends for some drinks on a Saturday night and was only $ 5 bucks to get in an they played pretty good music old and some new hip hop mostly west coast jams. Love coming here but the owners are dicks! I know they own the place but that doesn’t mean you have to go around shoving people while you walk. Also I saw a guy who placed a drink on their table for a brief moment and right away the owner was like«who’s drink is this? Get it off the fucking table!» Idk but to me that’s real rude and unprofessional. You can always be polite and just calmly ask. Maybe it’s because they have their own security guard and feel protected, or because they had a table with two women and want to feel alpha male but whatever it was it’s sure not acceptable. Aside from that the drinks are great, good music, good atmosphere(except for that example), and very live as well. Would give it a 4 if it wasn’t for that one occasion which was during the Ronda vs Holmes fight.

I tried to use the«1 free cover charge» offer, and they wouldn’t accept it. Once I accepted the code offer, I had 4 hours to use it, but the lady at the front denied this offer. The lady at the door said they weren’t able to redeem it because it was after a certain time, BUT the voucher DIDNOT have any information disclosing that type of information. U31 is cool, but they need better ventilation.

So I Dont really go here much for clubbing because it gets super hot and stuffy, but I have had some good nights here with friends. The have great mules my favorite is the strawberry mule :) The music is a hit and miss sometimes and the bar can get super crowded… However Tuesday nights and Wednesday nights are awesome! On Tuesdays they have Karaōke and 3 dollar drink specials. The Karaōke DJ is AMAZING!!! She has a great voice and the best selection in music! She has Florence + the machine songs which is great because she is the only DJ I have found that has a lot of their songs! plus lots of other great songs! the crowd is always cool too hahahaha never seen anyone get booed off stage. On Wednesday they have trivia and great wing specials! love the atmosphere and the trivia host! he is awesome!!! best trivia i have found in north park so far! He is hilarious! So if you dont want to come here to dance and here 90s throw backs at least come for the karaōke and trivia !

The Good. Nice dance floor in the center. Casual come as you are theme. Flip flip, tanks whatever(I was in stillettos) Reasonable amount of seating. Also honestly might have the friendliest patrons I have ever come across and I go out a lot. The Bad. The Drinks! I ordered Ketel One and Red bull so I am not cheap. The drink was terrible and I seriously am pretty sure they add water to their liquor. Honestly. Even when I ordered a shot it was off. The sound system is not fantastic, really muffled sound. Lastly… it is in the GHETTO, mind you I live in El Cajon so I am not high class and even for me I was like ummm… not what I expected. Bottom line if a friend asked me to go, I would return but would likely drink at home 1st. I don’t mind even downtown paying $ 14 for a premium drink. But I don’t want to pay for crap.

Your run-of-the-mill dance club with cheap drinks and low cover charge(usually $ 5 after 10pm). DJ is usually spinning old school hip hop and top 40, but that can get whack real quick. I like to change it up, so I usually don’t stay too long.

So I was with a group of people, my friend wears a 3x in clothing. He can barely find good attire for going out. Pretty lame I almost couldn’t get I because my shorts we’re too baggy. I guess at this place you can only wear super tight clothes. The crazy thing is that this place isn’t even nice. This place defies the hipster North Park vibe by blasting hip-hop /rap and trap music. They have decent unique drinks that are not too pricey.(A lot of them had Tequila). It’s free cover if you check-in on Unilocal so don’t forget to do that! Funny incident: it was my friend’s birthday and in her drunken state, she accidentally pressed«Use it now» in her check-in and the bouncers would not let her in for free… jeez talk about strictness. Place is clean! I recommend it if you feel hipster-ratchet.

Had high hopes for U-31 after hearing friends talk about it. As someone who has essentially been to every bar/club in North Park, U-31 is square in the middle. You can certainly do better, but it could be a solid back up spot. The dj was decent and there seemed to be an ok crowd. It is smaller than some of the other local spots, but has plenty of open space. I assume I will be back when the other spots are dead.

One of my favorite clubs in San Diego! I came here last Friday for my best friend’s birthday & had a blast as always! $ 5 cover or get in for free with your Unilocal check in! The lines can get long so plan to come early to look for parking & bypass the line. They play the best music: Hip-Hop, Rap, Today’s Hits, Throwback, everything good! In addition, their drinks are on point! The bartenders are generous with the alcohol & be safe because many of their tasty drinks will hit you hard, especially their miles(which are the best I have ever had!) The club is pretty spacious with a lot of areas to mingle but it can get hot. Table service is also available. Photo booth in the back next to the restrooms. Pool table in the back behind the bar. Nothing but good vibes & the best thing is is that you can dress casual-nice!
