Alright, let’s get this straight — Cal’s is by far my favorite breakfast place since I’ve moved here two years ago. It’s the food, the staff, it’s all of it. Everything that you want, and nothing that you don’t — straight up the fastest and best breakfast in no time flat. I cannot remember one time that the food that I ordered came out less than the best, bacon was always perfectly crisp, the scrambled eggs, always the perfect consistency, and of course the homefries; seasoned to perfection and all of this on a hot plate in minutes! If the food along doesn’t get you, the service is stellar, look for a gal that has a golden glow like she just got back from vacation, and sparkling manicured nails. She’s your girl, every time — without fail, she asks where we’ve been, hoe we’ve been and really give this place a homey feel that makes breakfast even better. So, when you’re not ion the mood to cook yourself breakfast, or feel like something delish and in the neighborhood — head over to Cal’s!

Just what a diner should be. Quick service, good people, chef/assumed owner says goodbye to many patrons himself. I don’t get other reviews of service being bad. Cleanliness isn’t top notch but it a local hole in the wall sweet diner. What do you expect? You’ll be happy and full for cheap when your done.

Always my favorite place for breakfast. Parking sucks being on the street but doesn’t stop it from being busy. Service is good, food is great… Carved ham in the omelets is excellent.

A mouthful of misfortune. I don’t judge breakfast places by the interior, but this place is a mess. I asked if the hash was made on the premises and she said it was from a can, but is was«very very good»(yeah, right). Then she was upset when I skipped the hash. I got the Italian sausage and cheese omelet, home fries and toast, my boyfriend got the hash and eggs. I HAD to taste his hash, which was horrendous and gray. My omelet was bland and the home fries had no seasoning and lacked onion. Skip this place.

Good food at a good price and plenty of food. Absolutely love the food and the employees are very attentive. I have been going here for years and will continue to do so.

Feeling sick after a brunch at Cals. The spot is a little grimy on the inside and is in need of a deep clean. My boyfriend had ordered an orange juice to come out with our breakfast and never got it. No biggie. I told the waitress that we had been charged for it and she replied«I knew that was coming.» If you knew it was coming why wouldn’t you have already taken it off my bill? She then proceeded to blame it on the bus boy. As a former waitress it is your job to make sure that your customers are happy, not your bus boy. Not only did I find a long hair/antennae looking thing in my omelette, after the ice melted in my water(which was nasty tasting) there were specks of mold and bugs floating in the glass!!! I almost threw up at the table. Waste of $ 40 — my first and last time visiting here.

I wanted to like Cal’s. I really did. It’s local(walking distance from my house), and I believe in supporting small businesses. The place is a cash-only time warp. Every surface is sticky, all of the condiments come in single-serve packets from Restaurant Depot, and the jam and coffee sweeteners are rationed. Seriously? Seriously. My mom ordered a coffee and a refill, and had to beg the surly waitress to part with a couple packets of the pink stuff both times. The oft-raved about pancakes tasted like the eggs, which tasted like the homefries, which tasted like 3 layers of rancid bacon grease. The one bright spot is the owner, who plays triple duty as host, busser, and line cook. He is the owner of the only smile or socially presentable disposition in the joint. The banner outside proclaims that RI Monthly voted Cal’s one of the top breakfast spots in RI. In 2011. Coincidentally, the last time the grease traps were cleaned. Ick.

Wonderful little mom and pop place that has excellent breakfast foods. Since it’s a breakfast place, they move people in and out pretty fast, so even when there is a wait, it’s not very long. Great service, and the restaurant is always very clean.

Been here a few times and each time the food was better than the last. Even everyday muffins are delicious here. Good job Cals! A little outdated but gives off a old time favorite kinda vibe.

Came in a few minutes before close, decided to head out but they stopped us and told us to stay. The owner Cal was awesome along with our waiter, service was great. Food was even better! Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area :)

Excellent homestyle cooking! I got the eggs benedict with home fries, and it was delicious. Our waitress was also really nice, and prompt. My only complaint is the till system is a little old fashioned. They only recently began accepting credit and debit cards, and it took a lot of written-out math for them to figure out how to split the bill. Now we know for next time to tell them up front if we’re splitting!

My fiancé and I eat here like twice a week, waitstaff if friendly and attentive and the food is always great. We always go for breakfast and it’s usually pretty busy, mostly locals and college kids. Nothing fancy just good food and good service, one of the few unchanged old school providence eating establishments! Try the eggs bennidict or any dish with their ham!

I’m shocked that I haven’t written a review about Cal’s yet! Based on my number of check-ins, one could probably gather that I come here often… Once a week to once every two weeks seems pretty accurate. Honestly, it’s the service that keeps me coming back. The people that own and work at this restaurant are some of the nicest people ever. It doesn’t hurt that the food is not only delicious, but well-priced and enormously portioned. Most of the time, I order my meals without the homefries(despite how delicious they are) simply because I 1. Overeat or 2. Don’t even come close to finishing my meal. I’ve tried quite a few things here, but my go-to favorite is always either one of their omelets, or the usual eggs over easy. My boyfriend absolutely adores their Corned Beef Hash Omelet, which takes up it’s own plate. Simply put: You want a good, quick breakfast, with excellent service, then Cal’s is your place!

Cute place. Very small and family owned. One waitress for whole place, but she handled it well! I got the eggs Benedict special that came with home-fries, we didn’t wait long at all! Came out within 2 min! And it was super delicious… Ate that up fast! Note– Cash only with an ATM inside.

Decent place for breakfast. Cash only is annoying but as long as you are aware beforehand. Standard fare for breakfast spots. Nice place to work off a hangover.

I’ve lived around the area for quite some time and have always wondered about this little corner breakfast stop. It a small modest little breakfast restaurant with a images along the walls that take you back to the 50s. The décor is unremarkable, but their food and service is awesome. The staff are welcoming, helpful, attentive and friendly. The food is made right when you order. They serve up the food right when it hits the plate. Great place to grab breakfast food for a quick-on-the-go run. I have even dropped by with the family, needing to head to work an hour from when I got there. The wait staff was incredibly considerate and reassured me I would get my order quick. And they did not disappoint! I had a filling brunch and made it to work on time! Ever since then, I come here often. Where else can you find a heaping portion of breakfast food and quick amazing service?

Walking into Cal’s I felt like I was walking into a different era. Old pictures on the wall, a map with pins that represent where different people are from who have eaten there, and a friendly owner that greets you like family. They just celebrated 30 years and I can see why! The food is not fancy, its your classic diner style breakfast. I got an omelet. They are huge so I decided to get the ½ and that was more than plenty. I also had to try the peanut butter and jelly pancake which is amazing but I am glad I only got one I feel like it would be too sweet to eat more than that. On top of this our meal was out in about 5 minutes. I was very satisfied with my experience at Cal’s. If the food and the service continue to be great on future visits, I think I have found my breakfast place to become a regular at. Give it a shot! Just an FYI its a cash only place.

This is a great local spot for me — I’ve lived down the street from this place for the past 8 years and it’s an awesome place to stop in for a quick bite to eat. The dining area is very small, and this place can get busy — but if there is a wait, it’s usually not for too long. The wait staff are friendly and sassy. They make you feel like family. My roommate and I had stopped in here one early Christmas Eve morning, ordered our coffee and the waitress was walking around with a bottle of Sambucca for anyone who wanted a shot in their coffee. Um, okay! The food is great and comes out very quickly. It’s not gourmet fancy pants food — it’s straight up home cookin’, which I love. The prices — unbeatable! If you order an omelet, beware — it’s HUGE. They do offer half orders as well for those of us who can’t down 6 eggs, plus bacon, plus toast plus home fries in one sitting. Also, there is plenty of interesting décor all over the walls of this place to admire while you wait for your food. P. S. — CASHONLY!

Yay for finding a local diner that not only plays Frank Sinatra while you’re eating but has some good ol’ homestyle grub to enjoy! I found this place by chance and walked in. The waitresses and staff have that local Rhodie feel but that’s what makes it so endearing. They treat you like you’re family the moment you walk in the door and are fun and kind. My daughter and I ordered and within three minutes we had our food. THREEMINUTES. Again, THREEMINUTES. It was quite possibly the fastest turnaround time for food that I’ve ever had. There were quite a few people there too! Impressive. They only lose a star for not accepting credit cards(but they do have an ATM with a $ 2.50 charge inside if you’re not carrying cash). I will definitely return and am happy to find a local family-owned diner nearby.
