As a combination birthday/Christmas present we decided to pay for our nephew’s desire to have contact lenses. Another, younger, nephew recently got contacts and, much to my surprise, his parents took him to Wal-Mart. I was pretty surprised by this, but was told Wal-Mart has good service and reasonable exam prices($ 85 ~ $ 95). So we go to our closest Wal-Mart, which is where Dr. Angelina Jagpal(optometrist) is located. While I was not present during the consultation process, I was there for a bit of a post questions and answers session. Our nephew ended up with a different contact in each eye; An ACUVUE2 in one, and ACUVUEOASYS(oasis) in the other. The OASYS is a more permeable, and a more expensive, lens($ 34 per box, vs. $ 20, more or less, but don’t quote me). This was basically for a «test drive» to see if the OASYS is worth the extra money. I was also ready to check prices at 1−800-CONTACTS, but I learned(from Dr. Jagpal) that Wal-Mart recently«acquired» 1−800-CONTACTS, so now you can get on-line prices in store, without the wait. There are also discounts if you buy 6 months, or a year’s worth, depending on lens. Bottom Line: I was very impressed by Dr. Jagpal. She definitely cares for her patients and did a great job of handling this new experience. Oh, and after wearing both lenses for a day, our nephew definitely liked the OASYS better.
