I’m sitting at my desk, singing«Trouble» to a donut, my eyes bugging with disbelief. Backtrack fifteen minutes all movie style, and see me coming to a crossroads, wherein two yellow buildings beckon to me, one on each side of blvd 26. I’m heading west to my little AC company desk job, and I’m hungry. The yellow one on the left has satiated my morning growlies with so many tacos, so many times, in so many ways, with so little money, but today, I aimed to walk on the wild side… Today I would wash ashore on Unknown Donut Island, a wanderlust adventurer who had heard the call of the dancing blow up chef in front of the yellow building on the right. Like Jumanji, that chef beat a rhythm in my heart I could not ignore, and after driving past so many times, today I crossed the threshold. The shop is adorable and clean inside, and the pastries are gorgeous, they really are. I held a high standard from my Dallas donut days, but the moment I lay eyes on the cake donuts, and the warm smile of the shopkeeper, I was pretty positive I’d done the right thing. I compliment her shop and pay my tab, drive away with my goodies, and fifteen minutes later, I’m sitting at my desk, a sharp inhale escaping my lips. The blueberry cake donut was so airy, and fluffy, and moist, and the blueberry in it is just like Nana’s blueberry muffins. You can frikkin taste them. The glaze perfectly coats the little treasure in a crunchy yet somehow delicate layer, and the warm blueberry aroma is a surprise– I’d never had one that offered such a homemade smell as well as taste upon your first bite. It’s shocking, and it’s heavenly. The texture, taste, and smell are all encompassing, and frankly it’s an experience. The screen turns black, and the ending music cuts in. It’s me, singing to my donut. «Troublllllllle, trouble trouble trouble trouble», I sang to my donut. «I’ve been’a– SAAAAAVED, by a donutttt»…

Now called K Donuts. New owners and new company for one month now. The freshest donuts around! Jenny, the wonderful owner with a service heart, had many fresh donuts still available at 11:45AM today. She said they really strive to be different and freshness is one way they are! Another thing: early in the morning she has a big variety of egg croissant sandwiches and other popular morning goodies. I’m not fluent in Korean — so I’ll just have to swing by again some early morning to see what all the fuss is about. I’m looking forward to that! And for those who like coffee with their donuts — she serves a mean cup of Community Coffee brand: good, fast, cheap. Pick three!

Maybe I’m just attracted to yellow buildings, but my search for breakfast this morning led me here. That and its at the end of my street. Well, I ordered an chocolate éclair, which they put the cream filling in for you in front of you. I thought that was interesting. I also ordered a couple of plain glazed donuts, which is the best way to know how good a particular donut shop’s donuts are. They were nice and fresh and fluffy. Right up there with Krispy Kreme. I’ll definitely show up again to this donut shop. Maybe not tomorrow, I might have to wait a month before partaking in another donut fix, but I go with my gut. So it could happen sooner than that. The shop itself could use a little fixing up. Maybe a fresh coat of yellow paint, definitely some color on the inside. Based on outside appearance alone, you might not see the appeal of the place, but stop by grab some delicious donuts and you’ll be sold.
