Cheap, inexpensive items along with discount priced useful items. A bargain hunters paradise, right in the center of downtown ‘Hamp. The selection varies as new merchandise is rotates in, so expect new items each time you go here.

You wouldn’t think that pricey, yuppie, toney Thorne’s Market could *possibly* support a dollar store, but in effect Acme is it. Okay, the stuff doesn’t actually sell for a dollar, but the stuff you’ll find is heavily discounted from anywhere else short of a dollar store, a Building 19 or an Ocean State Job Lot. It isn’t so much a place where you can go in *expecting* to find a particular item, as a place where you bop in every month or two, troll the aisles, and see what’s there that you might use, and get for half the price you’d pay anywhere else in Noho short of Walmart.

What a peculiar place. Did not see the Road Runner or Wil E. Coyote, but lots of other… stuff. It’s much more interesting than your usual dollar store, there’s a lot of fun to be had here if you have a sense of the absurd. I may have said to the Chief of Staff, «hey, look at this,» five or six times in the 10 minutes we were in here. The prices are good, this cheap headlamp flashlight I use bicycling at night was half the price I paid for online. The Chief of Staff got some cute sunglasses for $ 3.00, the workers here are somewhat predictably intellectual and over-educated, given the location.

Acme Surplus is one of my personal favorite stores in Northampton. Its full of products that have sight defects, or that their company ordered too many of, or just are really cheap. You can find absolutely anything here from tacks to socks to candy! Such a great store, so in line with Northampton’s character!

I love Acme Surplus! They have a tremendous selection of cards @$ 1(many of them would be $ 3 – 4 in other stores), stationery supplies, multicolored CD cases, cosmetics, candles, mugs, hardware … you name it! It’s a fun place to shop, and one of the very few stores in downtown Northampton where you can find practical items.

I forgot about this place. A cheapy store in the middle of Thornes market. My sunglasses ran me 3 or 4 dollars. Cute earrings for $ 2. Many duct tape choices — cheap!, craft supplies, fridge magnets, hair accoutrements,… lots of crap — some of which you might actually need, and most of which you just may want. It’s a small store –but not too uncomfortable to navigate, you won’t find large items so much. But the stuff is cheap, covers a wide array and is super conveinient when you figured that you could find or afford what you needed anywhere else in town…

You never know what you’ll find. I bought a ridiculous wool and silk ribbon multicolored winter hat there, made in Nepal. It’s usually my first stop when I need office/school supplies, but they don’t always have what I need. I wish their notecard sets were cheaper, but then I would hoard even more of them than I do now. Those creepy anatomically correct baby dolls should disappear.

Oh geez, Acme. This is like, THE place to go when you’re an engineering student. Tools for cheap, caster wheels, springs, pulleys, stickers, doll arms and legs(multi-culti of course. This is Northampton), cards, shirts, dirty-looking soap, wrapping paper… seriously. If you’re looking for some sort of supplies in Northampton, hit up Acme before trying CVS or any of the crazy boutiques at street level. A+ selection of greeting cards for pretty much any situation, ever.

Such a quintessentially late-capitalist experience, you could shop here purely for academic purposes. Discover holes in your life you never knew existed — haven’t you needed magnets of silent films? Or rose-colored sunglasses? Or stickers of our national parks? Or dirty Christmas cards? Yes, you have.

I used to work here so maybe I am a little biased but I love this store. Located in the basement level of Thornes Marketplace, Acme Surplus is the everything store you’ve been searching for your whole gosh darn life. Need some irregular hanes underware size XXXL? they got it. How about some irregular Lee brand jeans size 0? They got that too. How about some Arizona Center Fielder Kenny Lofton mini-dolls? you know it. and aquafresh toothpaste written in Spanish? yup! a humongous selection of Birthday cards for 100 year olds? Hell yeah! Confederate Flag stickers? Whhhhaaaaat? and copy paper, copy paper, copy paper! I got a canvas laptop satchel here for $ 7.99! This place is cheapo and you never know what you’re going to find. The stock changes weekly and sometimes never. I found the same weird shit here last week that I was trying to hock 5 years ago, and nobody wanted it then! But it’s all part of the Acme experience. My advice? Don’t buy anything ever unless you get it from Acme Surplus. their t-shirts are cool too. Amazing prices on useful everyday items like socks, personal hygiene, house-hold cleaners, sweatshirts, candles, wrapping paper, electronics, umbrellas, shoes, belts, tools and hardware, paper… the list goes on and on.
