Great Specs

I have one eye that is extremely nearsighted and need three different pairs of glasses to get around. For years local opticians told me they would have to charge extra for my lenses. They have then been quoting me extremely high prices for something as simple as a pair of reading glasses. So I have been ordering glasses online for quite a while. There is a long wait and the frames are often not what I expected. I have also had quality issues which, though resolved, add to the time it takes me to get my glasses.
So was a pleasant surprise to discover that I could buy very nice glasses near home at Great Specs. Not only can I now try on the frames before I buy them, but once I selected some frames for some new computer glasses, Jeff, the owner, was able to make them for me while I waited. The whole thing didn’t take more than 20 minutes.
Not only that, but the price he charged me was remarkably low. Much better than what I would have paid for the same glasses at even B.J.s, or Costco. In fact, the price was about the same as what I’d pay online. This was also true when he made me a single lens for an old pair of glasses where only one eye’s prescription had changed.
The selection at Great Specs was excellent. I look awful in heavy plastic frames and was very glad to see that he still had lots of wire rims in different materials, including some surprisingly inexpensive titanium frames.
Jeff makes outrageous rimless glasses, too. He showed me some custom ones he had made in very creative shapes, including one pair made in the shape of the Apple logo.
What a great resource for those of us living in the region!

Great service, unusual frame selection, unbelievable personal service. I was in town for a family emergency and needed new glasses. Jeff helped me find the perfect frame quickly, gave me good advice on different lens features, then carefully measured all aspects of my eyes (much more than the big box stores ever do). He even made an appointment with me on a day he was usually closed because I had limited time in town. All for a price in my very limited budget. I cannot recommend Great Specs enough.

Superb experience! Nice selection, lens crafted on-​site. The first time in a long time that I have really good vision after a new pair of glasses. In the past I went to big box stores – NO MORE! He even has authentic vintage frames that have never been worn! So fun!

Incredible service. I brought in a pair of really beat-​up vintage frames that I was hoping to get my prescription in, Jeff not only fitted my prescription but thoroughly cleaned the frames and replaced the temples with spares he had from the same brand and same era, all for about $ 80! He even said if they weren’t comfortable I could come back and he’d adjust them again. He has an awesome selection of frames both vintage and new, and you really couldn’t ask for a nicer optician. I’ve never had a better fitting experience or a better pair of glasses!

My wife and I went to Great Specs on the advice of our optometrist. He told us that he got his glasses at Great Specs and that Jeff Bostian was a true artist when it came to crafting eyewear. Since we both liked what our doctor was wearing, we drove to Northampton (from Glastonbury CT) to give Jeff a shot. We were both amazed! We walked in wanting rimless glasses and Jeff spent over 2 hours with us, suggesting different frames, helping us determine the style and making sure the shape of the glass complemented our faces. Jeff gets his lenses from the most reputable dealers and then grinds and shapes them to fit the frames. I have a wide face and when he saw that, he took the shape of lenses he had on, stretched them to fit my face and now I have a customer pair of glasses that fit so well, I can hardly tell I have them on my face. My wife’s glasses are so flattering and all but disappear on her face that the only way you can tell she’s wearing glasses is by seeing the side stems.
If you are looking for a serious pair of custom glasses that you will absolutely love, you MUST visit Great Specs. We’re telling our families and friends that it is worth the drive. You will not be disappointed.

After struggling for over a year to find the right prescription in the right frames (including progressives that just didn’t work) I discovered Jeff. I can’t recommend him highly enough. He is not only an expert in his field, but he truly cares about his clients, & takes the time to show it. He explained to me that in fact there are over a thousand different types of progressives – & he was able to figure out which ones were likely to work for me. (They have.) His prices are also much lower than local competitors. I’m thrilled to have found him.
