AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care

Russ who runs this particular Aamco is a rare find in today’s world. Had transmission issues brought my car there and within minutes he had diagnosed the problem. The price he quoted me didn’t change when I picked up my car, a rarity today in the car repair industry. He had my car back to me the same afternoon. I used this Aamco because of the awesome reviews. Other Unilocal reviews for other aamco were not good. I will highly recommend this one to my friends.

I went to this location and dealt with the most professional man by the name of Rust. He kept my car for about a week and called me to explain in full detail what was going on with my car and needed to be fixed.
Rust shown me that there are good people out there that cares and will take there time to fix your car. He went out of his way and above and beyond to fix my car with a little extra on top.
I must say I was very impressed with the he spoke with me and made me fell comfortable about the situation. I will continue to take my car there after this great experience and will refer everyone I know to AAmco.

I unexpectedly had car troubles this last week and found this place off Unilocal and was so glad I listened to the reviews! I’m not from the area so finding a good mechanic is essential and this is the place to go. My car was diagnosed and fixed within 24 hours from the time I dropped it off and got the best treatment from these guys as well as the best price possible. Definitely consider this place, their work is great!

Russ is such a great guy and did such an amazing job on my transmission at AAMCO Northridge. Rarely in today’s world of auto service is the customer treated so well and taken such good care of. This is a top notch mechanic/​garage with the utmost integrity.

2010 Lexus IS250 transmission had issues, it would start on 3^rd gear and the check engine light came on. I took it to the Lexus dealer for a $ 145 check up. They suggested to replace the tanny with a NEW one at $ 4,800. Took it in to AAMCO and had it checked for FREE. Their recommendation was repair it at $ 1,500. Been driving it for 3 weeks and feels like new. Thank you Russ.

Russ and his crew are a great, professional group of guys! A few weeks back, my GF and I had to take her Jeep Liberty in… found out the transmission had to be rebuilt… ouch! After getting over the initial shock of how my money was necessary to get the repairs donee… Russ went into action to make sure that my GF was able to get the job done quickly and was able to get her processed for a line of credit with AAMCO. I would highly recommend Russ and his team of top notch mechanics.

Two weeks ago a had to have my car towed to an AAMCO repair shop because of an extended warranty I bought 4 years ago. This location came as a referral and I have to say, from the first phone conversation I had with Russ, (he runs this place), I knew right away I was in good hands. To my chagrin, I found out that my transmission had to be totally rebuilt. Russ was helpful all the way. My out-​of-​pocket expense was $ 1200 of which I did not have readily available, however, I found out that AAMCO offered a 6 month, 0% financing program of which (once again) Russ was there to help get me approved by completing the application process with me over the phone.
After nearly two weeks of my car being in his care, I finally have a car that drives like a new one (my car is over 9 years old with more than 187,000 miles on it).
On a side note, my «check-​engine» light had been going on and off for quite some time so I went back to have AAMCO look at it and learned that I needed a new battery. Russ hooked me up with a battery (that was originally priced at $ 130.) but charged me less than $ 100. (His cost). My car as a new lease on life and I can now confidently drive my car and not worry like I have.
Thank you again, Russ and to your crew for helping a stranded girl out. I’ll be coming back, hopefully it too soon. ;)

BEWARE THE SCARE TACTICS!
My car started stammering infrequently so I came in for their ‘free diagnostic’.
I only give this place 1 star because Victor, (who was treated like a SLAVE by Russ) was nice & tried to be helpful. However, Russ was completely intimidating, telling me to call Enterprise & rent a car until they could perform a ‘complete’ diagnostic the next week, because I could blow my engine by driving it! I felt Victor was not of that same opinion an am still driving my car months later after only switching to 91 octane fuel!!!
Glad I didn’t fall for this typical macho mechanic intimidation tactic! You’re the fool Russ!!!

Best mechanics in the valley and probably anywhere. Russ is a straight shooter. He fit me in on a super tight sched and finished so fast even though they were crazy busy. Super great guy and place. The second we got there i knew i could trust them, and that’s worth a million bucks!

I brought my Volvo in to get it to pass smog. Russ said that the ECT needed to be replaced. But the thermostat was fine. He also noticed my brakes were bad. Although I think he gave me a good deal on replacing the rotors and pads all around, my car wouldn’t pass smog. I took it back to him and he said he has a diagnostic reader that cost 15 thousand dollars and he said that there were no codes coming up, it should pass. After 3 more attempts, I took it to another shop. They said the thermostat was bad and it needed an all new computer. So much for Russ’ fancy schmancy diagnostic machine! I just got it back from the second shop and it passed smog. They even took care of the smog test for me. Totally disappointed in AAMCO and Russ.

Russ & crew are great. Did a fantastic job. Even when something else went wrong that had nothing to do with the original problem. Russ had our car picked up to fix it. Russ is the one who discovered our vehicle had been broken into while in OUR care. Not only did he replace the battery, but he fixed the secondary problem at no charge. He felt so bad for us. Some people think Russ is rude but he’s straight forward, no lies — no smoke. People say they charge too much for parts & thats not true. They get quality correct parts for the vehicles. Highly recommend this AAMCO any day.

My husband and I left his Nissan Maxima car there for maintenance when we met Russ. Don’t let his tough exterior persona fool you; he’s a fair and great guy. The car took longer than expected to fix but Russ kept in constant communication with us in letting us know exactly what was going on and what to expect. In the end the work was fantastic, like a brand new car, and the the price was EXTREMELY FAIR!

My experience at AAMCO Northridge has been so amazing that I decided to finally create a Unilocal account just so I can rave about it! Russ has been a star from start to finish…
as a female who has owned vehicles for more than 15 years, I can honestly say that this was one of the very first times that I have taken my car in for service and left WITHOUT feeling that I had been taken advantage of… Now about the service (at AAMCO Northridge as well as cautionary tale from another unmentionable AAMCO location).
I have recently moved to LA from Denver and was in desperate need of getting my CA plates… but, alas, my car’s check engine light was on and I knew I definitely couldn’t pass my smog check with it on. I had taken my car in to a few places to get the codes checked and it kept coming up as the CO2 oxygen sensor (which I had just had replaced a mere few months ago in Denver!!) This puzzled me since this was a brand new part… either way I knew I was going to have to suck it up and get it taken care of so I could get my plates.
I had tried to take it back to one of the places that had ran the codes for me so I could get a full diagnostic (the other unmentionable AAMCO) and was told that since they had already glanced under the hood and verified that the oxygen sensors were new, a diagnostic was a waste of time and the only thing they could do to help me out would be to completely replace the oxygen sensor with a brand new one –total cost would be over $ 400 for the one part plus labor! Yikes! When I inquired as to what they would do if they got the new sensor and the part didn’t work (since they’re not running a diagnostic) they proceeded to tell me that the only thing they could do is «cross our fingers and hope for the best» there would be no guarantee and no warranty.
This is how I ended up driving to the AAMCO in Northridge to get a second opinion (did I mention that I have credit at AAMCO which is why I ended up at this particular location?) Russ was superb with making me feel welcome from the get go– from the first phone call promising to squeeze me in even though they were busy to doing a full diagnostic when I explained my situation. The awesome guys at this location found multiple leaks in different parts of my car (thank goodness I didn’t listen to the other guys!!) and were able to fix my car at a very fair price in a very timely manner! My check engine light is finally off and I should be able to get my smog test very soon… At the very least I know that if anything else ever goes wrong with my car, I can count on the team at AAMCO Northridge!

I visited this AAMCO when my check engine light went on, because they will check the problem for free. I have an older car, and it appeared as though everything that could go wrong, did go wrong all at once. I was freaking out, but Russ from the office walked me through everything and did everything he could to keep the price down. Great people and great service here. I’d recommend this location to anyone.

I took my car here last week because the check engine light is on and Victor is the guy taking care of my car. In spite of the problems that my car is giving us, they are very nice, helpful and doing their best to fix the problem.
Russ, the manager is very nice, professional, and very knowledgeable. I will definately recommend them.

I took my car in for a diagnostic and Russ hooked it up for free! He couldn’t fully determine what the problem was, but he didn’t lie to me and try to sell me something I didn’t need. He fully explained to me what he did, and advised me what the problem may be, and referred me to another shop that might be able to help. Turns out Russ was 100% right about the problem, and I was able to get the issue fixed at a muffler shop. I really appreciate the help he provided and even more so his honestly. If you need a transmission shop that you can trust and do not have to worry about being lied to or given the run around, go to these guys!

Unbelievable guys working here ! Always made sure to provide clear explanations and give me advise whenever I asked. I will most definitely continue to bring my car here!

this review is from about 6 months ago: Here again after having an axle replaced a month ago because it leaked lubricant and now is clunking. Oh GOOD. When I called and inquired about the warranty on the part, Russ, the manager, on the phone was like «yeah IF that’s the issue then we’ll replace it.» is that really how you treat your customers? Also, Pretty sure the last time I was here I told them exactly what the issue was then, they scoffed and took 2 hours to «diagnose» what I told them.
Update: I still have never return to this place I used to come here all the time when Ben was the manager now I just don’t know about this place anymore it seems like there’s always something wrong with your car that of course costs a ton. They talk down to you a lot and I mean overall for general maintenance I can get an oil change and tune up cheaper elsewhere. without the hassle so.

I had an awesome experience with AAMCO! AAMCO currently has an amazing special! You can now go in and get your car checked out without having to pay a fee; Which is perfect because no student wants to spend 69.99 at some high-​end dealership just to tell them you have a small issue that can be easily fixed.
Not only did AAMCO save me some money they also provided me with excellent service. Russ was working the service desk and he was outstanding. He took my reservation and kept it, offered us drinks, and was pleasant to talk to.
I’ll definitely be coming back, as long as they provide the same services at reasonable prices. :)
