Tim, the owner, is a great guy who knows bikes, ebikes and wants to give his customer a great experience.
If you are looking at ebikes or thinking of buying one — I want to emphasize that the bikes you get from BME Bikes are a stunning value. You get a remarkably lightweight, high quality ebike for about $ 1200 – 2000 less than a comparable production ebike. The BME bikes use a lithium ion battery and a mid drive. If you want the same level of equipment in an off the shelf bike you are looking at a minimum of $ 3000. Tims electric bikes start around $ 1600. A cheap Currie or ebike from REI will cost as much, and the competitors will have hub motors and maybe not even a lithium ion battery. The competitors will be much heavier and have poor weight distribution.
The ebikes are customized, built from either a donor bike you supply or you can get a bike from Tim (I got a KHS step thru model from Tim). He then builds them from a mid drive kit that he has tweaked. The result is that you can get a remarkably lightweight, high quality ebike for about $ 1200 – 2000 less than a comparable production ebike.
I’ve had four ebikes over the last 10 years, so I know something about ebike evolution. The bikes today are significantly better than ten years ago. The biggest revolution is that there are now affordable mid-​drive kits with good battery range. My first ebike weighed 70 pounds, my new bike weighs 45 pounds. Even more significantly, my first bike had a hub motor and the battery as well as all the weight was pretty high. On this bike the motor is below the bottom bracket. The battery is on the slanted bar between the handlebars and seat. As a consequence, when I want I can turn off the motor and the bike rides pretty much like a cruiser. It’s quite ridable. On my old bike, with the engine off the bike was unrideable.
The mid drive is a major innovation. It means that when you shift, the gears work with the motor. You can use shifting to make more efficient use of the power. The unit I got from Tim also has a range of 0 – 5 levels of assist. I find that I use the different levels in combination with the gears on the bike. My bike has only a single chain wheel on the front, which is really all you need with the electric assist.
Bottom line is that BM Ebikes is a hidden gem. I found it by accident, which was good luck for me because I was shopping for a new ebike when I stumbled across it. I ended up with a bike that met my unique specifications. I could not find anything at any price that matched what I wanted. I ended up with a great bike that meets my needs. And I enjoyed Tim and his shop.

I can’t recommend this electric bicycle shop enough. I have been researching and shopping for an e-​bike for the past month. I was lucky enough to visit this shop and to meet Tim, the owner, and not only did he let me test ride his bikes but he also listened to me when I explained what it is I was really looking for. In the end I ordered an urban modified version of the Nighthawk model. I visited a lot of shops and talked to a lot of managers and salespeople who told me they could order me a bike that would maybe fit my needs. But Tim listened and told me he could build me a bike that would fit my needs. As I said before, I can’t recommend Tim and BM EBikes enough. They offered and provided first class customer service. This was a great little shop! The owner was so nice, and they were able to fix my bike very fast. There’s a ping pong table in the front, so I was able to distract myself while waiting and next thing I knew it was done! I went in to fix my inner tube and they ended up putting air in my other tire, and fixing my brake. Highly recommend coming here!

I was lucky enough to find this shop while getting lunch. There’s plenty of parking on the side and in the back. The layout of BME Bikes is very clean and organized; to me this is a good indication of the overall experience and service I can expect. If there are tools all over the place and dirty bikes, the service will probably be on that level as well. Everything so far has been A plus.
Anyways, I met Tim, a very approachable guy with tons of bike knowledge. My experience with bicycles is that my gears always got stuck and made weird noises as a kid. Tim was able to show me how to adjust the setup in the back (and front) to maintain the smooth shifts. He also showed me the full-​suspension BM-​Apollos 1.3. I’ve never owned a full suspension rig, let alone an e-​bike but Tim showed me all there was to know. After a few visits I finally decided to go BIKE or go home.
We negotiated on an AWESOME price and once I have a few months of trips/​miles, I will post another review. So far my experience with BME Bikes has been nothing short of excellent and I have already been recommending this shop to my cycling friends.

Tim, I have been riding my Fuji mid drive for 2 months now and It has exceeded all of my expectations. Dollar for dollar, you make the best electric bike on the market.

I looked around and compared many bikes. I believe Bmebikes is one of the leading e-​bike manufacturers in LA that offers quality bikes for reasonable prices.

I had a great experience with BME Bikes and Tim the owner of the business. I decided to convert my Trek 7.2 Hybrid road bicycle into an eBike. The build came out way better then I expected for the following reasons. 1) BME uses a mid engine motor which allows you to still pedal the bike like a bicycle. If you ever rode a typical Ebike you can’t really pedal them and they are extremely heavy which in my opinion defeats the whole purpose of a bicycle. 2) My Ebike is light. The BME build only added 13 LBS to my Trek. 3) My Ebike is fast as shit. I actually hit 30 MPH just off using the throttle from a standing start. 4) You can change the speeds in the Pedal Assist controller that gets mounted on the handle bar which gives you complete control of your speed. 5) The battery gets 50 miles per charge while pedaling. So if you use the throttle as needed the (PAS) Pedal assist mode will allow the battery to hold a charge all day.
You will not find a better shop to buy an eBike from. The price was reasonable considering the quality of the build. Tim is a very knowledgeable guy and honest businessman. Interestingly, he’s also a car guy that modifies cars and builds custom turbo engines. Highly recommended!!!

Purchased my bike six weeks ago. I am very happy with all aspects of this decision. The service and attention to detail I received was excellent. Tim recommended the perfect bike in price my range. I was on the hunt for a good quality and affordable bike. I stumbled upon their eBay ad and messaged Tim at BME. He had the upmost care on what I wanted in a bike and was very thorough with my order. He builds the bikes himself and uses quality parts. Luckily I live not too far from his shop, so I was able to pick it up with no hassle.
Product review:
The bike I purchased was an ebike (29″), but he does have regular bikes if anyone was looking for that. It goes really fast with the peddle assist and throttle and the charge on the batteries last a good while (roughly less than 20 miles). All in all I am very happy with my purchase and I recommend anyone wanting to get an ebike/​bike to go to BME.

So, I first heard of bmebikes through a friend & who knew how cool ebikes were!
Honestly, I didn’t even know that ebikes existed until recently. Ebikes are basically electric powered bikes! There’s an option of using the pedal assist. What that means is that for all you eco-​friendly commuters, you no longer have to be sweating & exhausted by the time you get to your destination. The pedal assist helps do exactly that – assists with your pedaling. I also tried a bike that was fully powered by the bike itself. I didn’t have to pedal at all!
The owner was really nice and helpful with all of the questions that I had. I’m a curious type that usually asks more than enough questions about products before I purchase them. The owner was more than helpful and was pretty passionate about what he was doing. He also let me take a ride on multiple bikes.
The ebikes range from $ 1499 – 3000, and his regular bikes start off around $ 250.
His shop is a little hard to find, so if you’re interested at all, I suggest you give him a call.
