I’m glad you guys closed down. I asked the portly seat warmer to get me something from the back. He claimed it was on the shelf. It was but it was damaged. I asked if he could look in the back for a different one and he adamantly said«I’m not going back there.» Rude POS with tatoos and rock a belly greaser haircut. Doc Brown called he wants you to accompany him back to 1955 to help him stop your parents from conceiving you. Have fun getting a job at Hot Topic.

It’s kind of important to preface this review with the fact that, though it is «closed,» the comic book store that moved into the place where Golden Apple used to be is still basically Golden Apple with a vaguely different name; I think some of the business cards still say«Golden Apple Comics,» even. Just look for the giant Wolverine mural on Reseda Boulevard, and you’ve found yourself where you need to be. Trust. *Javier J. has informed me, and I quote, that«[t]he Northridge Golden Apple is now owned by a comic writer. In fact, DC’s biggest comic writer, Geoff Johns!» This makes sense. Thanks, Javier J.!* Now that we’ve got that out of the way… Four stars, four points, one star per point as follows: 1. Golden Apple Comics has just about every issue of The Walking Dead ever printed. 2. AND they sell t-shirts? Whoa. 3. The dude at the counter is pretty friendly and didn’t even stare down my shirt when my buddy and I were checking out. 4. The back door is pretty keen, as well; it definitely deserves a gander once you’re here. Golden Apple Comics is definitely my kind of place. Four stars. **reminder: free comic book day is May 1! Golden Apple is participating! Huzzah!**

This place is perfect for it’s size and selection. If you walk in there you will find what you need, it feeds the basic needs and offers new endeavors. I took my little sister with me and she found something interesting. That she could relate too, that didn’t involve super hero’s or dead girls or anything flashy. Why four stars and not five? A friend of mine wanted to check out the spot and called to see if they were still open, when we got there they closed. Which could have been explained or warned over the phone. The location sucks, and by that I mean you have to go to this location specifically instead of incidentally while on other errands.

When I was a wee lass, my dad would take us kids for a walk up to Golden Apple Comics and buy us comics. I believe my selections were mostly of the Wonder Woman variety. Had manga existed in English back in the early ‘80s, I would have gravitated towards that, but it did not and so I did not. I continued frequenting Golden Apple throughout my teens so that I could pick up the latest copy of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. It was one of very few places in Northridge where I didn’t feel like an alien, mostly because the manager at the time often wore a Morrissey t-shirt and played Sisters of Mercy in the store. I can’t remember his name, but I remember the Morrissey shirt, mostly on account of the fact that I had the same one. Anyhow, I went back to Golden Apple for the first time in ages and, even though the store has since moved across the street and the faces inside have changed, it’s still a great shop. Warren, the current manager of the store, is very friendly and helped me pick out a nifty John Woo graphic novel for my boyfriend. I purchased the latest Jhonen Vasquez piece for myself because some things don’t change. The selection is excellent and the prices are reasonable. While the store’s animé/manga selection is quite limited, I am not deducting points as there is an animé shop a few doors down on Reseda Boulevard.

Golden Apple Comics: Northridge Store Warm, friendly staff; the gentlemen who is there at least every New Comics Wednesday is named Warren, and Warrens know comics books. It’s a rule.(Seriously though, he will definitely engage in small-talk, is super-friendly, and pointed out some fabulous comics after seeing what I was into; no holier-than-thou attitude here!) They have a great selection(they often have back issues, and usually even have the full run of good new comics); lots of indie and all the majors; they are aware of a lot of the amazing creator-owned or smaller-press publications and do a very good job of keeping stock of valuable debuts(i’ve never seen Brian Wood’s Channel Zero, but they have it and a bunch of related works). They also try really hard to keep a decent stock of trade paperbacks, which is useful for someone like me who missed on years of fantastic work. Friendly Staff, Excellent Selection, Good Prices and Plenty of Parking in the back. Sounds like a 5-star recipe to me
