Seriously have become my go to place to study since the Oasis open later. Great place to study if you score a table or a room. It gets harder to find it later in the day and when exams are coming up. Staff are so helpful too and I just love coming here!

The University Student Union, also known as USU, is used for numerous things; the most popular being Computer Labs and A. S Tickets. Computer Labs Computer Labs are areas in which students can use computers for a duration of two hours at a time with the ability to print up to 20FREE pages per day. The Computer Labs are very popular because many students like to take advantage of their resources. The Computer Labs also have everything one would need to turn in a paper; staplers, hole punchers, and paper clips. A.S Tickets Associated Students, also known as A. S, offers students discount tickets to theme parks, movie theaters, museums, campus events, and public transportation. A. S Tickets is another popular resource students, and I’m sure faculty, use to save a few bucks. Overall USU is very useful for those of us who are willing to stop by and take advantage of it.

The USU definitely has stepped up its game over the years. Back when I was a freshman, I used to always hangout here in the open with my friends, just lounging around in between classes, and even when classes ended. There’s always constant hustle and bustle, and even with all these distractions that may have occurred, I definitely had enough studying time here. In my personal opinion, I think it’s great that CSUN goes out of their way to always have something going on for students to participate in. Whether it be elections, performances, craft corners, etc — the USU definitely lett’s students par take in different activities. Whenever you see workers pass through, they are all very friendly and welcoming. Most organizations at school have their weekly meetings in the USU rooms. The MIC is pretty nice most of the time. I’ve requested meeting rooms before, and never really had a problem in the past. The meeting rooms(Santa Susana, Ventura, Woodland Hills, etc), are always kept in tip top shape, and very clean and organized whenever I have my own sorority meeting rooms in there. Thanks, usu! The USU also provides a variety of lounges for students to relax before/during/after classes. Most are located nearby the Bank ATMs. There are some study rooms up in the second and third floor, as well as an alumni study room, however I do wish there were more available for open usages. I do understand that meeting rooms should be available for priority for those that request for rooms, however I feel that it would be essential and nice if the USU allows certain times of the day for study hours(i.e. 2−5PM on certain days, or in the evenings, etc). Students could either utilize these extra spaces for studying, or just take a nap from the long day. Another thing that I really appreciate is that the USU really does take our thoughts and concerns into consideration. The USU wasn’t lacking anything in particular, however, it would’ve been great if they had more outlets or charging docks for students to utilize in case anyone forgot to carry a charger on them. My friend, Daniel, wrote a letter to the USU expressing his concerns of the lack of facilities that were provided from the school, and bam! In the new semester, we were welcomed with charging docs! I don’t know where they are located in the USU, or if anywhere else on campus, but I know one of the docks are located in the lounge under the old computer labs. USU, thanks for always keeping us up to date! =)

This will be a brief review of the Sol Center, which is part of the University Student Union at Cal State University Northridge. I particularly like the Sol Center at the USU because it has a computer lab and study areas for students. It also has a lounge area with older televisions. I do wish that there were more study rooms at the Sol Center, along with ergonomic chairs, which place less strain on your back. The Sol Center has some nice views of the rest of the USU. Wi-Fi for your laptops is available, so if you have an older laptop without a Wi-Fi card, you maybe screwed. I do wish that there were more power outlets for students to plug in their laptops. Not everyone has a 10-hour battery. The Alumni Reading Lounge, has some great photographs of the CSUN from decades past, such as those from the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. There are ATM machines(Bank of America, Citibank, Wells Fargo) outside the Sol Center on the first floor. Since the Sol Center is fairly new, it does not have that nasty smell and sweltering temperatures of the Oviatt Library.
