Phil’s 76 Service

I just rented a trailer there for the day. The yard boy, or owner, was a real jerk. Has a napoleon complex or something. So he yells at my son to move our truck out of the way… when there was no where to park. The office lady, however, was very nice.
When I returned the trailer, I unhooked it myself. He came running out saying «no no no,» — since I knew it would annoy him, I continued to disconnect the trailer. He came up and almost cried. «I have to check it out with it hooked up!!» he said. So he throws the trailer back on my hitch just so he can check the lights. Truth is, he could have left the trailer on the ground, and still plugged in the wire to check the lights. In summary, this kid is a wack job… just looking to find some dent or other issue to charge you with. He is just one big baby.

Car broke down and we called AAA for a tow to a nearby car dealer. We were informed that Phil’s 76 would be responding within 60 minutes. After over 2.5 hours and multiple calls to AAA trying to find out where they were, they finally arrived.
I explained our frustration with the wait and let him know that I had missed my son’s high school basketball game because of it. The driver did not care in the least. He asked if I called Phil’s directly. When I indicated that I had called through AAA, he said it would be much quicker to call them directly in the future.
The driver indicated he had been assigned to two other calls and also got stuck in traffic causing him to be late. Strangely, he went on to tell me how little money AAA pays them for towing as if that was my problem. Hmmmm — call them directly for faster service??? Could Phil’s put AAA customers at the bottom of the priority list??? My experience says absolutely yes. While they proudly advertise that they have been associated with AAA since the 1960’s, they appear to be very bitter about the economics of the relationship. To bring their customers into that discussion is completely distasteful.
To top off our dealings with Phil’s, the towing distance to the car dealership exceeded the AAA limit by a half mile. I suggested to the driver that he might consider waiving the $ 4 charge given our 2.5 hour wait. The driver was incredibly rude and told me again how little AAA pays them and that his truck cost $ 65,000 and had to be paid for. In his words, «A mile is a mile». While he was standing in front of me, he made a cell phone call. After a brief discussion, he told me that «my boss says you either pay the $ 4 or I am out of here» and started to walk away towards his truck. I was in complete disbelief!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! There are way too many legitimate towing businesses in Novi/​Northville that appreciate their customers and treat them with respect. Phil’s does not deserve your business.

I cannot speak to the mechanical services of Phil’s, but I can tell you that as a U-​haul facility, they are they best I have ever come across. My husband was looking for a box trailer and was able to get one last minute from Phil’s. They were extremely helpful! I would definitely send my friends and family to this place if they were ever in need of a U-​haul.

February– Winter at it’s worst! Snow piled EVERYWHERE, we’re in our trusty 4×4 Explorer: me, Hubby, and son. On the way home, we get stuck in the biggest, baddest, meanest snowbank you could ever imagine. We called AAA Emergency Roadside Assistance. They contacted Phil’s 76 Service in Northville. Not too long after we made the call for help, here comes Our Saviour in a big ol indestructible towing truck –KYLE!!! The Knight in Shining Armor, The man with the plan. He was so friendly, helpful, awesome to talk to, assured us he would take care of us, and he made good on his word. Thank you, thank you, thank you Kyle… YOU ROCK!!! Whenever we’re in a pinch, whether we have AAA or not, as long as we’ve got a cell phone, we are calling Phil’s and asking for Kyle. This guy is awesome, and he needs to know it. Thank you Kyle for saving the day!
