I have been here several times for lunch. The husband/wife make a great team(and the mother who works is equally nice) The homey atmosphere makes you fell at home. The food is great, not restaurant like but home cooked. The tenderloin is delish as well as the ciabatta. My kids order the cheeseburger and chicken strips. All good. Overlook the house appearance and the modest table settings. This is a delicious place to eat.

I think they do some things very well(anything baked) and miss the mark on most other things. We live in Norwalk and really want to love this place, but always leave a little disappointed. I’m sure we will try again…

Found on Unilocal.Just in the area and when we walked in, we were the only ones in the place. It was a Wednesday and 10:00 so maybe we were between rush times. Food was super. I had the corned beg hash. Real strips of beef used in the hash. The toast was thick sliced and made there. Stop by and enjoy.

Best breakfast in the Des Moines metro area! I eat here 3 or more times a week. I’m never disappointed! You can tell it’s a family business. Visit often!

I usually don’t drive down to Norwalk unless I’m hanging out with my buddy who lives down there. Well I came early one morning to Norwalk and my buddy could not stop talking about this place. It looks like a small house from the outside, very welcoming look. Parking was limited in the front, it was packed, so we had to park a block away and walk here. Upon entering I could see how small the diner really was. They have an addition in the other room, but it was less appealing to eat there, so we opted to waited a couple minutes for a table to be available. Many people who come appear to be regulars and give the diner a positive atmosphere. The menu is simple and straightforward. Time to eat, I got the Ciabatta breakfast sandwich with sausage and a side of bacon. My buddy got the pancakes and his buddy got the croissant sandwich with bacon. The Ciabatta was good! Perfect crunch on the bread and everything was flavorful. The dish comes with hashbrowns, but I thought the hashbtowns were subpar compared to other diners. I tried my buddy’s pancakes and they were very fresh and noticeably homemade. The side of bacon was perfect as well. I got a cinnabon to go and it was tasty. This place definitely feels homey and it is a family run business. Check out their interview video with the news, I did before coming and it made the food taste great! Server was friendly and it was cool to see the owner cooking in the kitchen. Will come back again if in the area!

We came here after church for brunch. There were a few tables filled in the small, main dining area(there is another area attached too). It is a seat yourself so we chose a table in the back. The waitress brought us menus and took our drink orders. She also informed us that they were out of corned beef(my husband was saddened by this). I wasn’t overly hungry and had a hard time picking what I wanted because the servings sounded large on all of the options. Granted, everything did sound yummy! My husband selected the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. I went with the Croissant(with bacon). The food came out nice and hot. My sandwich was great! I really liked the flavor. However, I found my hashbrowns to be bland. My husband enjoyed his breakfast. By mid-way through our meal, almost all of the tables were full. You would definitely want to get here earlier than later since it got so full. We would come back and hopefully next time they will have the corned beef.

The only complaint about this place was the coffee and the size of the dining area. It was small but had a hometown feel. The homemade bread was amazing! Everything else I had was tasty. I am a plain eater when it comes to breakfast so my bacon and eggs tasted like everyother bacon and eggs I’ve ever had. lol! But I recommend this place!

New favorite for south Des Moines and area around it. Beats the Waveland for local atmosphere, but very small. Better get there early! The pancakes are HUGE, and the service is great.

My favorite breakfast place! Love the toast it’s homemade! Food portions are big. I always get eggs over medium, toast, hashbrowns and the bacon is heaven. A must try even if you live in Des Moines, it’s only 15 minutes south on 63rd and well worth it!

Deliciousness. What more can I say. The pancakes are homemade goodness. Family environment. Friendly down to earth owners and staff. Will definitely be visiting again.

I’ve been to Olson’s several times for breakfast. I go back for the melt-in-your-mouth pancakes. These pancakes are loaded with vanilla — DELISH. The place is informal and basic, and the service is fun and efficient. Nothing fancy. We like to take friends here for a low-key brunch. We’ve always left completely satisfied. And now our friends ask for another trip to Olson’s.
