As airlines go, VA is actually pretty good. The airplanes have a little bit of a nightclub-wannabe vibe to them, with some blacklight and weird fittings, but beyond that it’s pretty normal. Once unusual thing is that they don’t come down the center aisle trying to pitch food and drink. You use the screen on the back of the seat in front of you to order and pay for your food. This is, to me, vastly superior to dealing with the standard method. You know if your food is going to cost money before you ask for it, and you pay at the seat instead of handing your credit card across your annoyed fellow passengers to the flight attendant. I’ve only ever ordered the cheese and veggies plate, but it was surprisingly good for airplane food. On my two cross-country flights so far, i found the staff to be friendlier and more polite than on other airlines, about on par with Southwest from 15 years ago. I paid $ 10 extra to fly VA instead of Delta when i go west for Thanksgiving this year, because the improved service is worth at least that much.

I was so excited to try out Virgin Atlantic! Notice the word WAS! The airline was ok… just ok. The TV in the back of all the seats never worked except for the last hour of our flight and when you are flying overnight… you need that mindless crap to get to sleep. The stewardesses never seemed to look worried that everyone was cranky because of no entertainment. The seats were not bad I guess… my long legs actually had room unlike some american airlines. The food was decent… ok it was just ok. What can you expect from airline food anyway. I suppose I will fly them again if I have to but if I had my choice it wouldn’t be Virgin…
