Amidst the wild and crazy antics on my senior year bucket list, there was running the Notre Dame Holy Half. I was never athletic, but I had relentless determination. This, more than athletic ability, is the key to success for me and anyone else attempting a great physical feat like a half marathon. Don’t neglect at least some training and preparation though! The flat course took runners on two loops around Notre Dame’s campus. Picturesque sights such as the Golden Dome, basilica, quads, and lakes made the pain of running 13.1 miles slightly more enjoyable. The support and encouragement were immense from the myriad of spirited volunteers and spectators stationed throughout the course. Being a student-run event, the Holy Half did not have finisher medals or food spreads like other organized races could afford. There were no finish line freebies either, but all participants received a tech tee with registration. Professional race photography was also provided. I would’ve never imagined myself to be confidently running so many half and full marathons today, all thanks to my start at this event. Whether you’re a student, community member, or visitor to Notre Dame, I’d highly recommend running this flat, fun, and Holy Half!
