I was once an artist here and I loved it; however I believe they ask too much of their artist. Not only do you pay rent and give them a percentage of whatever you sell, you are also expected to «work«a number of hours each month. If you don’t schedule your hours in when the schedule comes out, you are left with whatever is left over. I worked at the partridge creek mall and it was beautiful but with having a full time job at the time it was hard for me. It’s up to you to find someone to cover for you at the cost of $ 20 an hour. You are also expected to vacuum, clean bathrooms, etc. That’s how deb was able to open 4 shops. It ‘s great exposure for artist but it ‘s too costly. I was paying $ 250 a month, working 10 – 20 hours a month, cleaning(they didn’t hire a cleaning crew) and giving them. 15% of whatever I sold.

About seven years ago, artist and Michigan resident, Debbie La Pratt wanted a store where artists could sell their artwork without the hassle of traveling around to art shows. She decided on a mall storefront and it has worked out to be a success. Art is in Market is home to over 150 Michigan artists, across three locations in Michigan, all showcasing and selling their unique«made in Michigan» artwork. The store itself is very organized; each artist has their distinguished display area. Some of the staff at the store are the actual artists and there is always new merchandise coming in and out. You can buy almost anything whether you are shopping for yourself or someone else. From handmade jewelry to beautiful pottery, sculptures, and metal work, you are sure to walk out of there with something. I have received many gifts there and purchased some items for myself including, a build your own word sign, Detroit Loves You hoodie, Detroit themed coasters, I Have People in Detroit onesie, and Michigan sports themed metal work.

Art is in Market has a great selection of Michigan made arts. This year, I bought my husband a piece of art reclaimed from a demolished Detroit home. It is beautiful, and its history is amazing. I’ve also purchased beautiful textiles and fragrant candles. This is one of my go-to places for artsy gifts for friends and family.

I found this shop by accident. I was Christmas shopping at 12 Oaks and stumbled upon this little treasure. Located on the 2nd floor just outside of Macy’s… It was like fabulous bits and pieces of a street fair tucked into a nook at the mall! There was a wide variety of artists booths to shop from. Everything from tshirts to ceramics to paintings to jewelry to whatever you can imagine! There were a few items(in my opinion) overpriced but who am I to say what someones art is worth? For the most part there are some fabulous buys available. The ladies working in which I encountered were smiling and friendly. I bought the perfect Christmas gift here! I love supporting local stuff. Please check this out, there’s something for everybody.
