Alain’s bistro: oh mon Dieu! What a night with a fabulous dinner. Authentic French cuisine in a cosy restaurant. Very attentive staff and very friendly owner, chef Alain. First time here and surely not the last as we want to try everything in the menu. Tonight we had a tarte a l’alsacienne as starter, followed by a real choucroute(very generous portion) and roasted rack of lamb(special mention about the sauce rosemary Au jus) and finished with a mouth watering molten lava cake(fondant au chocolat) with espresso ice cream and baba au rhum. Everything was so tasteful and so delicious! A must try restaurant that you’ll want to visit again

We had a wonderful dinner at Alain’s Bistro. The best part about our dinner was of course, the food(why else would you go to a restaurant). We were a party of four and everything we had, from appetizer to dessert, were delicious. One of my favorites was the herring appetizer. Our wine was a table French red, and despite being a table wine, was still very good. The only downside about the meal was the service. Perhaps our waiter was inexperienced, but he barely came for any refills(water, wine, etc) and I’ve noticed him playing on his phone in between service. It wouldn’t surprise me if that was why the service was sub-par.

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch here back in July, a few days before I gave birth to my baby girl. The ambiance is lovely and the staff speaking French to one another really set the mood for an authentic experience. The food was absolutely delicious and really impressed us. We had a smoked salmon appetizer that was outstanding. I had the soft shell crab with fresh tomatoes and watermelon carpaccio that was one of the best things I have ever eaten. My husband had the steak frites which he enjoyed as well. Our waitress was lovely and service was perfect at a nice relaxed pace for an enjoyable lunch out. The bill was definitely high for a weekday lunch: 1 beer for my husband, 1 appetizer shared, and 2 entrees came to almost $ 100 with tip but the quality of the food was really worth it. Alain’s is a great choice for a special meal out!

My daughter and I had lunch at Alain’s today. The service and food were excellent! The atmosphere-quiet and cozy. With my husband being overseas, just my daughter and I celebrated our 41 wedding anniversary. I greatly enjoyed it!

Love this place. This is the highest quality food in Rockland County. The chef & owner, Alan spends time with his customers and you can tell that he is very passionate about his work. We got the rack of lamb which was perfectly cooked and the duck which was also great. Highly recommend this place.

Excellent dining experience. The waiter was fantastic, he was very informative, friendly, & humorous. All the bold & different tasty dishes are a plus! My first time trying escargot & it was surprisingly delicious. I can’t get over the dessert! I had the grand marnier, expresso, vanilla bean crème brûlée, & upside down apple pie.

Food is outstanding, décor is clean inviting and relaxing, service is very good. Owners know what’s up, you will come back for more, a touch pricey though, but I can not give anything less than five stars monsieur…

We NYC foodies just had another wonderful dinner at Alain’s Bistro. Frisée salad with poached egg and lardons. Escargots. Nougats de boeuf. Calve’s liver. All top-notch. A must-go if you get to Nyack!

My mission was to pick a restaurant in Rockland County to celebrate my own birthday. I live in DC but my siblings lives in NY. After perusing Unilocal and website menus, I picked Alain’s Bistro. Afterwards, my siblings were saying: great choice! Not only was the food delicious, but they had us in a corner off to the side so we could make noise and be festive but not bother other people. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful; and Alain made a couple of appearances and sang happy birthday with the rest of the waiters. This was the best birthday dinner I have ever had. The outstanding appetizers were the cod fritters, goat cheese tart, and mussels. Most of us had steak frites which we greatly enjoyed as well as lamb chops and choucroute. The best desserts were the raspberry napoleon, opera cake and profiteroles. Plus they gave us a delicious salmon mousse amuse bouche. The staff and owner treat you as honored guests, not just customers. My only caveat is that the website menu is out of date and some dishes were not available. So if you have your heart set on a dish you see on the website, you may want to call first.

Ate here on Valentine’s Day. Prix fix menu was delicious. Should go back to try the regular menu. Liked it. Great change from getting boring Italian.

Came here for restaurant week and was not disappointed. I enjoyed the codfish fritters– Amazing texture, portion, and the garlic sauce was delicious, reminded me of Lebanese toum My friend had the escargot puff pastry and loved it– her first time eating snail The French onion soup was solid as well for my main course– mussels in white wine and garlic sauce– Perfectly cooked, the sauce was so good I used up half the breadbasket soaking it up when I finished the HUGE portion of mussels Dessert– Beignets– not exactly New Orleans quality, wish I went for the Apple tart, which my sister-in-law ordered. That was heavenly– amazing texture and apple butter and smoky taste hit the spot. The service and wait staff was friendly but not super attentive, BUT –however the food was excellent and I will return!

Star rating given in comparison to every place I have ever eaten. If just in Rockland county, I would give it 4 stars. I’d come here and just eat desserts any day of the week, that is for sure. Service is off the chain, the owner is French and fabulous, and the wait staff is extremely attentive. We started off with soup– I had the soup of the day which was creamy but not too rich. Hubbs had the french onion soup, which was not too salty but had a lot of flavor. Entrees were delightful, large portions, and well done. I had the chicken coq au vin and hubby had the duck con fit. Now let’s talk about the desserts! The star of the show. We had the trio of crème brûlée, which were all fantastic. The traditional crème brûlée was well done, buttery more than custardy. The chocolate crème brûlée was fantastic as well, chocolatey without being too overpowering so you can still taste the crème brûlée. We also had the apple tart, which was so well done and had a nice dallop of vanilla ice cream. The tart was warm with a flakey delicious crust and apples that were sweet and slightly tart. It was the perfect mix. Must trys– dessert of all sorts Yummilicious Factor = B+

This is an adult restaurant … Not a sports bar or a fast food joint. Moderately priced and not your typical menu… It is quite French & quite delicious. The staff is very friendly & the owner is very charming!

We have gone to the restaurant several times, and it has become our favorite restaurant for celebrations(birthday, anniversary, etc). The food, service, and ambiance are all outstanding. Some of my favorite dishes are the scallops, short ribs of beef, and the cassoulet(which is truly heavenly!) The desserts are also fabulous as well — highly recommend the chocolate mousse, chocolate soufflé, and the crème brûlée. They often feature special items throughout the year such as «gamey» meats(wild boar, Scottish pheasant and venison, etc), which you won’t find anywhere else in the local area. Lastly, excellent wine list — the cote du rhones are always my favorite! Expect the prices to be consistent with any high-end, French restaurant. Lastly, Alain himself is warm, friendly and a lot of fun!

This place was recommended to me by my coworker. Her husband and her know Alain for many years. So, I have decided to bring my crew here for a Holiday Dinner Party. What can I say? From the moment you walk in, you feel warmth and good vibe. The whole place is decorated elegantly. The food is another plus. Everything on the menu looks delicious that it is hard to decide. They also have a great wine menu. I have ordered a Bouillabaisse dish which was recommended to me by Radmila. It was exquisite! For desert I had three different soufflé tastings: Orange, Chocolate and Vanilla. Vanilla was my favorite! I highly recommend this place to anyone who want to try some great French food.

Alain is so nice! Food was really delicious! The tiny complimentary appetizer they gave was really good, great beginning to the meal. We got the special app, mushroom leaks and goat cheese tart — f*cking amazing! I got the pan seared scallops, so good! I don’t know what else to say except that from my first experience here, the food is really delicious and I’d love to go again for brunch.

Alains is the bomb. Here’s why: Alain greets everyone who enters his restaurant like you’ve been besties for years. The duck confit was better than what we had in Paris a few weeks ago. Service was adorable. The wine they recommended was lovely. Ambiance was comfortable and far, FAR from what you’d expect from a restaurant in a strip mall. Chocolate soufflé was among the best desserts I’ve ever had. If you need more reasons than that to make a beeline for the place, you must be wacked. (Side note… The bill was well worth it at $ 170 [2 appetizers, 2 entrees, dessert, high quality bottle of wine, bottle of sparkling water, and two cappuccinos])

I was back. The food was completely awesome. The service was completely fixed. Prices are decent, food amazing, great service, an acceptable wine list and a full bar. Recommended unconditionally.
