I only came here once. My husband and I were lost on the the way to the airport and since my husband just absolutely adores New York cheesecake he asked a gas attendant where the best cheesecake could be found. We were directed to the West Gate Restaurant located inside a Best Western, now the West Gate Inn. This is a family run business and personally I support that. We ventured forth and had a normal, if not average meal. My husband is gluten-free so that is sometimes quite limiting. Since we were in a panic over being so far from the airport and fearful of missing our flight, we ordered an amaretto cheesecake to go. We didn’t actually dig into the cheesecake until safely on our flight, which I deeply regret, because it was so creamy and delicious and extraordinary I would have purchased a whole cheesecake! So, in my opinion, the best cheesecakes are most definitely to be tasted and discovered at the West Gate Lounge Restaurant in Nyack On Hudson. Lisa is the famous cheesecake maker. She makes all manner of cheesecake from plain to amaretto, piña colada, almond joy, Jack Daniels Honey(hmm…I may have to special order that one). and mixed berry. Lisa is a blue ribbon winning baker of cheesecakes, you can tell each cheesecake is made with love and passion for the craft. And on a different topic… my husband and I were watching Rickie and the Flash starring Meryl Streep and a diner scene looked eerily familiar. We both realized it was filmed inside the West Gate Restaurant and we were so excited to tell our friends that is where we had the best cheesecake on earth!

*Saturday night review* Grab a snack, y’all. This is gonna be a long one. Let me start by saying I’ve never asked to speak to a manager before this past Saturday. My friend scheduled a reservation for 6 people for her birthday. Four of us(3 ladies and 1 guy) arrived at 10:30 pm, and we were led to our table without an issue. Her other 2 friends plus one more showed up within an hour later, and the host kindly accommodated our 7th person by bringing over an extra chair. Just a note — there was always an uneven ratio of men to women so there was always at least one person at the table at all times. We were all enjoying ourselves, but it occurred to us that an hour had passed without a single server coming to our table to offer us any drinks or food or to clear out any of the now-empty cocktail glasses that were piling up on our table that were ordered from the bar. The birthday girl wanted to order cheesecake and the wait staff was nowhere to be found so I walked over to the hostess, told her that we’ve been there for an hour without being served, and politely asked if she could send a waiter to our table. 20 minutes later and nothing. Strike one. Then I saw a waitress three tables over and once she was done with her table, I walked up to her and politely asked if she could call a waitress over to table 30. She said she would, yet another half an hour had passed and our waitress was still nowhere to be found. Strike two. Around 12:20 am, I stopped the waitress who was walking away from the next table over and asked her if she was our waitress(she was) and if she could come to our table when she has a minute. She said she’d pick up her writing pad then she’ll be right over. Five minutes later, she gets to our table and by this time, all 7 of us are sitting down. «What do you guys need?» …really? No «Hi everyone, my name is ___»? No «I’m so sorry about making you wait almost two hours for a server»? Oh… okay then. Strike 3. We asked her what the cheesecake flavors of the night were(but you’d think that if a place is known for their cheesecake, there’d already be a list of them on the table) and after 2 – 3 minutes of consideration, our group decided to share three cheesecake slices: strawberry, blueberry, and coconut. It didn’t take long for the slices to be served, but they only brought over 4 forks and 4 knives. We kindly asked the food runner for 3 additional forks and for him to clear the many empty glasses on our table. He took as many glasses away as he could handle, but he never came back with the forks or to take the rest of the glasses away. Sigh, is Strike 4 a thing in any sport? All three of our plates were empty for over 15 minutes and no one bothered to come by and check on us. By this time, I was extremely bothered by the lack of service so I walked over to the hostess stand and asked to speak with a manager. I explained to the hostess that it took almost 2 hours to be served, we never received our forks and our table was cluttered with glasses, and our waitress hasn’t come over to check on us or give us the check so I’d really like to speak with a manager. All she said was, «I don’t know where he is.» I told her that if she could find him, I’d really appreciate it she could send him over to table 30. The manager never came to our table, but our waitress walked over with the hostess that I complained to. «Hey, I heard you complained so I just wanted to say I’m sorry but someone called out today so I’m taking care of all these tables.» Half of our table was able to see her face as she walked away, and as soon as she looked away, she rolled her eyes. Wow, so genuine. Then the hostess walked over to my boyfriend and told him to wear formal wear next time in accordance with their«Dress to Impress» dress code because he was wearing nice shorts. We sincerely apologized for not checking the website beforehand and she left. But why didn’t they address this when we first got there? We could’ve easily gone elsewhere if that were the case. Plus we saw a woman in red pants and black combat boots and a man in ripped jeans on the dance floor. Did the hostess let them know about the dress code too or did she just call us out because I complained? Maybe I wouldn’t be as bothered by this if our waitress genuinely apologized for the delay the first time she came to our table. Maybe I wouldn’t be as bothered by this if a manager came by to personally apologize for this unpleasant experience at the dance club/lounge. I don’t know. Regardless, this was the worst customer service that I’ve ever received. It’s a real shame that I have to give this place a 1-star review because I thought their music and live band were great and their cheesecakes were honestly the best I’ve ever eaten, but when it all comes down to it, customer service is the lifeblood of any company and their service was just unacceptable.

Hey this place has some very nice salsa dancers. I saw some really cool spins, and turns, within great atmosphere. The place looks really nice at night for an older crowd, it was all very comfortable. The main band plays 10pm-2am but you can stay dancing until 3am. They have dancing lessons 9−10pm.

Thursday night Mambo nights review. As an alternative to other venues charging cover, I visited this place for Salsa dancing. The place was sooooooo, lacking good dancers. The crowd was predominantly a mature crowd of beginners. Umm. I will stay away. There is a One drink minimum. No cover. Crowd is tepid.

Excellent food and customer service. The West Gate restaurant is the best diner around the area.

So unfortunate. Here now. Waited 45 minutes for our food. Have been done eating and wanted to try their cheesecake but have been waiting for 20 minutes and no one has come by. Not even to clear our plates. Also my burger was overcooked.

Went here recently for their«Salsa Saturdays.» While the dance floor has plenty of space to move around, the drinks here are expensive relative to the area and the service isn’t all that great if you have a table. It’s often just easier to use the bar if you’re there just to dance. Booking a table in advance might be a waste of time if you spend a majority of your time on the dance floor. Would I go back? Sure… but only with a group of friends I know.

My son and I stayed here for Halloween weekend… Saturday service was excellent but Sunday was horrible. The service was lacking my son and I had to wait while two local customers was serviced before us even though we arrived before them… It was clear that they needed more staff for the crowd size that arrived but good customer service is a must in any business. The hotel staff was great and very attentive…

I’ve attended events at this location a few times and although it’s not glamorous it’s not the worst either. At most this place would be a 2 star maybe 2.5. There really isn’t anything special or outstanding about this venue. Drink prices do seem reasonable, but I was confused about their table service. No one ever came by even though each table had what seems to be a bar menu, saw some servers but wasn’t sure if I had to flag them down or they would eventually come by. Decent dance floor, this is definitely an older, couples, crowd. It can be a hit or miss on if you will be asked to dance. Late hours and they do have some great bands on their Saturday nights. What’s great is that they have their diner right next door to grab a quick bite after the party and if you are really traveling from far the Best Western attached too. I’d attend again but know what to expect when visiting this establishment.

The most appealing part of this place was the fact that It was a part of the best western. This was a very good thing since we wanted to dance the whole night and not have to worry about getting home in one piece after a few drinks. The salsa was new to me and the Hubby. Luckily we had a friend there who was a former salsa instructor. He was gracious enough to give us lessons… After I stepped on his feet a few times I started to get the hang of things and picked it up quite nicely, as long as I stuck to the basic steps, and didn’t try anything fancy like«turning». We had a great time! The music was on point! The band was great, but it took them forever to get on and they left as soon as they came. All in all we still had a great time and the DJ kept things going… I will definitely return!

I came to the West Gate Lounge on a Saturday night, looking for some salsa dancing, as well as hoping to catch a live band and an Eddie Torres performance. First of all, the cover was 20 bucks and did not include a drink or anything else. This is Nyack, a lounge in a Best Western located right off the highway — come on! The woman who did a free salsa lesson was engaging and a good teacher, kudos to her! Now onto the bad: you need to come with a dance partner or a group of friends if you want to dance in this place. It was 99% couples, and people just danced with each other. The hostess seemed nice but could not tell the exact time the performance was supposed to start. We waited til 11:30 and left. Never again. I’d rather dance in the city!

The owner and/or party promoter is so rude and awful. I had drinks, paid $ 20 to get in and paid coat check yet when I asked for tap water I was refused and not only that he asked me to leave the event. You shouldn’t attend any event that he has. His name is Jimmy and he is not a nice person despite as a patron padding his pockets.

After checking into the adjacent Best Western that advertised an «onsite bar & lounge,» my fiancée and I strolled over into this joint, only to be rudely shooed away by the snippy hostess who immediately dismissed our«lack of dress code» and the fact that there was a cover. Wow, even outside NYC you get that ghetto street attitude. I’d rather drink in my room… or at the hotel restaurant that has beers.

Love this place. Best kept secret of Nyack. Classic atmosphere– nothing like it in town. Cheap, decent, fast, nice food. Spent many a breakfast here as well as late-night solo dinners with a book and a «wine split.» The waiters are classic as well. Go for it.

Billing itself as «New York’s Finest Latin Nightclub», the West Gate Lounge holds a latin dance night every Saturday from 8 till ?. A major draw is the live music from some of New York’s best salsa orchestras — occasionally some very well-known personalities perform there(Frankie Morales, former lead singer for the late, great Tito Puente, and fiery latin pianist Eddie Palmieri, to name two of them). Lessons for beginners and intermediate/advanced dancers of New York«on2» salsa begin with Oscar and Edwin at 8pm. Lessons include shine patterns and partnerwork. DJ starts mixing at 10pm, with the band coming on for two live sets. The first live set starts anywhere between 11:30 and 12am; the second set starts anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes later. Both sets last about a half-hour to 45 minutes. Check the website for more details.
