Bazinga’s

This restaurant has closed up forever. Went there after seeing it on Unilocal,but was told the restaurant closed long ago.

Earlier this week, a friend of mine invited several of us to join him for the ribbon-​cutting event at Bazinga’s today. I’d never heard of it, and had no idea there’d been plans to open a restaurant inside the VFW. He promised they were giving away food, so who am I to judge?
It was a pleasant surprise, then, to find out that Bazinga’s (in an homage to Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory) is run by two women on a mission. Mary and Marcia are determined to provide wholesome, delicious, local food to hungry O’Fallonites who might otherwise opt for an unhealthy, less satisfying McLunch. Their produce, breads, and meats are all from nearby small businesses (including a bakery on The Hill), and were served along with a variety of tasty finger-​foods today so that we could try out their ingredients and appreciate the taste without various condiments added.
I skipped breakfast this morning, since I knew I’d be eating there at 11:00 A.M., so I came ready to buy lunch. The menu offers a great variety of salads and sandwiches (or «sam’iches», as they’ve named them), but one in particular stuck out to me: Great Grilled Cheese, featuring a three-​cheese blend of American, Swiss, and Munster, a slice of grilled tomato, and plenty of sunflower seeds. I tried it on their wheat bread, which had a rich flavor of its own. The cheese was melted perfectly, the sunflower seeds added a nice, slight bit of crunch to it, and the tomato was juicy without soaking the sandwich. Delicious.
Bazinga’s also offers a few other items of interest, including dried herbs and spices, ground specialty coffee, and homemade cookies. I got a packet of dried dill and three chocolate chip cookies to take with me. I haven’t gotten to try out the dill yet, but I can vouch for the cookies. (Also good.)
The restaurant has a lot of potential, especially if it can get consistent patronage from the VFW regulars. If you don’t mind the smallish room and the general atmosphere of the VFW, you’re in for a real treat. Give them a try!
