Excellent dining experience just 15 mins from Downtown and worth the drive. As you walk in to the left is a huge 18th century mirror from Europe the feeling of walking through a looking glass sets in, you are here, you made it, a restaurant with family pictures on the wall, the owner Tony Mazzola and staff prepares your dinner from recipes dear to his heart. The food is amazing, delicious appetizer my favorite, shrimp Dijon and fried zucchini. Fantastic entrées, order the veal piccata, cannelloni, beef Tony or my favorite pasta con pesce. This evening was a great dining experience one we’ll never forget, Thank You Mungo’s

Although it is a little pricey, I have never had a bad meal at Mungos. The beef Tony is fantastic. All of the pasta dishes are excellent as well.

Absolutely the best Italian you can eat in the area by a longshot! The Mungo’s salad is unbelievable, The beef Tony is amazing, their tortellini is fabulous. Great toasted ravioli, and the chicken Tony is pretty damn good also! Don’t be fooled by pretenders like Bella Milano they try to copy a lot of Mungo’s dishes but Fail miserably.

It has been many years since we ate at Mungo’s and we were not disappointed this time. The service was really good and the food was amazing. The salad was not as good as I remember. I would recommend this restaurant and stand by their reputation as the best Italian food in the Illinois side of the river.

They don’t take reservations, but somehow turn us away at 6:00pm when we arrived with a party of 8. We can’t accommodate you is what we are told. And as we depart, we see a steady stream of diners arrive. I am more than happy to take my business elsewhere. The owners response to this post is both inaccurate and dishonest. The place was not packed, and as I stated, several groups came in and were seated as we were departing. It’s ok though, we went to Agostinos in FairviewHts and were welcomed in by the owner, treated to an amazing meal, and discovered our new favorite Italian restaurant! Thanks Mungo.

This place is nice! It’s a little pricey, but for special occasions it would be alright. It’s a pretty«casual» place, not like suit required. They have a very good salad with house dressing. We had a big group so there was a lot of variety in what we ate. The toasted ravioli appetizer was up there with some of the best. The calamari was also good. Everyone enjoyed their meals with a variety of pasta, veal, lobster, and chicken. I personally got the cannelloni, which I was very impressed with. The meat had great flavor and the cheese mixed in with the sauce was very creamy and rich. Very good! Last, we finished with the cheesecake which was rich, creamy, and delicious! This is a very solid place, and my dad has proclaimed it his new favorite restaurant! Definitely recommend!

I wanted to like this place, but for the price per dish it is extremely over priced. My pasta lacked any flavor and my wife got a filet that was decent, but over cooked. On the positive side I really enjoyed our waiter. He was funny and very professional. I will go back again at some point as it is possible the food was just off that night.

Bad experience here. Waiter was rude and inattentive. We overheard the employees talking about our table. Way overpriced for the amount of food and quality. Won’t be coming back.

Yes I am a fan! My staff and I have been coming to your place for our annual Christmas party for the Past 5 – 6 years. First time at the new location. Good food and drinks. Enough said. Will be back next year.

Yes I do still think about you Tony. My experience was so horrific that I can’t forget it no matter how hard I try. You may have moved but my horrible experience there with an abusive screaming drunken owner was a once in a lifetime experience that I will share every chance I get for the rest of my LIFE. It stands out so memorably because I have never been treated so disgracefully anywhere in my life. When you channel your inner Gordon Ramsey, it should NOT be at your customers. I see you still remember me too. How flattering.

The filet here is the best I’ve ever had. Even better than Porters and that’s saying ALOT! Our waiter was amazing as well. His name was Tim. Very attentive and great service. I’ll be back…

My husband and I love Mungo’s! We live south of Belleville, but it’s always worth the trip. The Mungo’s salad is always cold and yummy. I love the chicken brochettes since I’m always trying to eat light and it’s so good! The bread is even special. The food and service at Mungo’s are consistently wonderful. The«other» place doesn’t compare:)

Nothing to brag about, had the veal marsala, very blend, no flavor, sauce was red, hello. had the garlic butter pasta to go with. Thank that it come in a bowl, way watery… The caprice salad, is the fresh mozzarella price up, had chunk instead of slice… Maybe they excel more in the pasta side, will try a second time to finish my opinion but so far not impress. Place very clean, staff very nice… Good wine list… But

My wife suggested we eat here on a whim. They were closed. Then we came back just as they opened. Most people dining at least had a jacket or sport coat, but they do not have a dress code. We had a great meal. Everything came out perfect and tasted great. Our trip was during Lent so seafood was on special. I had the fried lobster. This is out of character for me as I usually prefer turf over surf however I’m glad I took the chance here. The atmosphere is upscale for southern Illinois without being pretentious. Mostly younger people as staff that we saw but competent at their positions. On a whim I ordered an old fashioned. The drink was like water — in a great way. Nothing was wrong with it and I long for another shot at one. Normally I drink zero alcohol so if you’re a professional you may have another opinion. Stop in for a great dining experience and be sure to try a cocktail.
