Steak ‘n Shake

This is one of the worse eating places.
The chili tasted like it was watered down with ketchup, the spaghetti did not taste good (definitely something wrong with it).
We been to and liked the Steak n Shake in South County.
All we wanted was to leave — I paid the bill and the manager came over to talk to us. I explained about the food — she said there was no problem it was just over cooked. She would not refund my money because she said «you already paid».
I received a phone call later — I was told there would not be a refund because «you probably will not be coming back anyway».
I would of given it 0 stars — but that was not an option.

Horrible
Came in and waited 10 minutes to get our drinks ordered, asked for milkshakes then, then 20 minutes later they came with our orders for food. Friend was allergic to mayonnaise and specifically asked them not to put mayonnaise on the food. about a good 30 minutes later about half of our ordered food arrives, it comes with mayo, tell them about it and they «Change it (took 2 minutes)», they gave back the same burger. Asked again and we got it in about 2 minutes… wth? it took them 2 minutes for that? W/​e… Anyways a few people asked just for cheese fries, that’s it. We had to specifically go up to the counter and say where is it? 1 minute later it’s there, but it’s on a tiny plate, took about 3 fork fulls to finish it off. Guess what? None of our milkshakes arrived either, none of them we asked consistently for them throughout the whole thing and got nothing. We were a party of 10 and the receipt had only 6 of us
Never going back here EVER

Came here last night after a school play. Not a lot of people there got seated quickly. Then things went south the floor was filthy, we had to wipe out seats off. Waited for 15 min not one server came and took our drink order or gave us water. Several servers just standing around gabbing. We left no one said anything to us. Clearly a lack of management will never be back. FYI we went to Denny’s told them about it and they gave us 20% off our bill there! And Denny’s service was fantastic!

Can’t say anything positive. Guess they should get 1 star for having a building and being open, but I’m not feeling that generous. We were seated, and then forgotten. Never even had the chance to order drinks, let alone food. We left when the next customers were seated and had drink orders taken. They were not busy, and had plenty of servers. ( Unilocal won’t let me give 0 stars, so ignore the 1, it’s not from me!)

I’ve never been a huge fan of Steak n Shake food, but I always liked their milkshakes. We received a few gift cards for Christmas… enough for a few shakes. We ordered three milkshakes at the drive through. It took 19 minutes to fill the order. 19. The shakes were fine… but not worth a 19 minute wait.

I went there on the way home from work. The food is good, and is a whole lot better than that of most of the competition for the same amount of money. They were going to take a few extra minutes for the order ahead of mine at the drive up so they asked the guy to pull forward and got me my food in a hurry. This was because he ordered a lot of food and because he wanted to special order a lot of it. I accidentally gave the guy an extra dollar and he told me and gave it back. This was a big tall black guy with a button up shirt and tie. In case you’re the owner, he and the cook were both really nice. the guy from the kitchen came to the window and gave me my food while the other person was getting stuff ready for that one big order. They are the reason I took time to write this.

Nothing has changed after a month. We stopped by here to give it another shot, hoping the drive thru was a fluke. Not at all. Inside wasn’t that busy, it was 2PM on a Saturday. Stood up front waiting for a table for 3 – 4 minutes before anyone greeted us. All of the tables were dirty, none had been bussed, so we waited another 10 minutes, standing there while the incredibly slow busser cleaned up tables along with the manager. The manager looked like she was trying, but the employees just seemed overall lazy. None of them were listening to her.
Oh well, the other area steak and shake locations are pretty good, guess this is just the problem child every family has.

I have never had an experience like this at a restaurant but, the waitress’s tray of ice water was dumped on me, she disappeared. The girl that took our money didn’t know how to make change and there was not a discount or apology.

Extremely slow service. Waited 15 minutes to be asked for drinks. Waited 30 minutes for a cold taco salad. Waitress was friendly but definitely don’t come here if you are in a hurry.

Everytime I come here I wait in line so long. And the machine is always «broken» disappointed in wait time.

My first time ever going to this chain, and I’m not impressed by this location. Service from the waitresses was horrid, they refused to serve us; additionally they made the host wait on us which is not his job in the slightest. The host did the best he could, and is to be applauded for his efforts. The food was still cold when it arrived to our table, but we watched the plates go immediately from the heat lamps to the table, so the issue was in the kitchen, seemingly.
I will suffer through a different location before I wholly swear off the entire chain.

Really bad service say with no drinks for 10 minutes even though we were right across from the server station and could see our server standing around. She didn’t seem concerned with us at all. Good was pretty good when it finally came other than us having to remove a stem that was left on the Pickel that was on my sandwich.

I would’ve given at least a 4 star rating if it was based on food alone. Food is pretty tasty with a nice variety. Unfortunately, the customer service needs a lot of work. A customer will come through the door, wait at their «wait to be seated» sign for at least 10 minutes before anyone acknowledges the customer. Meanwhile, customers continue to come in & awkwardly stand around to be noticed & seated. Once seated, the servers a very friendly & accommodating. I would suggest having a hostess at the front greeting customers.

Can you beat a Steak ‘n Shake burger, I don’t think so. This place is great they even give you hats for the kids I would recommend them to anyone.

I’m just not a fan of steak and shake. I have tried so many things here over and over and it just tastes so fatty and processed. I do enjoy there crispy chicken sandwich.
The service at this place always impressed me. It is fast and accommodating if you are in a hurry.
If you love there food I would come here.

I loved their burger and Steak and Shake spices! The spices were quite good that I bought one to take home. I have had better experience at another Shake an Steak location.
I was there on Saturday, November 9, 2013 around 11pm. The servers were courteous even though they took a long time to greet to seat. I was NOT happy that there were 8 plus undisciplined young kids way past their bed time SCREAMING as it spoiled my meal. The parents just sat there like bunch of lazy bunch letting their kids do whatever they want without any regards to others in dining area. Management did nothing to quiet down the children! Parents need to be more responsible with their children’s discipline. I was unimpressed! I did not enjoy that evening because of the SCREAMING kids.
Hey management team, please take control of this next time since there are people out there that still care about dining etiquette!

This place is not bad. The burgers are good and the fries are good with chili. The shakes are ok too.

I’ll usually have to wait for my food a little longer than normal for a late night snack, but the service is very consistent and friendly. Thanks for taking care of my Guacamole Steakburger cravings.

OK the vegetarian new year’s resolution has hit some rough spots. But SNS has some darn good burgers and cheese fries. I like this SNS, the people are nicer, adn it is a little cleaner than others I have been to.

This place has been here forever. I love the place! People always go on about how great In and Out Burger is out here in California, but Steak N Shake beats the crap out of In and Out!
I have a long history of going to this particular Steak N Shake. We use to goto concerts in St. Louis and after every single concert WE HAD to stop at the Steak N Shake on the way home to Centralia area.
The food here was always pretty good. The service for the most part was always fast and we managed to get refills, etc quickly. The prices were really decent, too.
I recommend getting the Milkshakes and a Tuna Melt. Best food ever!
