We stayed at the Gateway Inns and Suites on Whidbey Island NAS for a week in April 2015. Our reservations were made online, then confirmed(and modified) by phone. The staff was very friendly and helpful, not only getting us the best room, but also providing local area tips. The suite we ended up in, on the 2nd floor near the computer room, was apparently one normally used by O6 and up, IIRC. It was clean and comfortable, had a kitchen, living room, etc. What really stood out though, was the most comfortable bed we have EVER slept in. I have had a bad back, upper and lower, for over 20 years. Whenever I travel, I expect to be in pain after sleeping. Not the case with this bed. I asked the staff about it, but apparently it’s not available commercially yet. The only negative was the lack of an elevator. It was stairs only for access to the 2nd and 3rd floors. That may have changed by now. The bed easily made up for it.

Upon checking into my room, I found that the bathroom had been just spot mopped. There were still pubic hairs in the tub, and even more on the shower wall. I found a wet wash cloth draped over the top of the shower curtain rod as well. I asked for the manager to come see this, and once they verified it, I was offered another room. Granted the room is only $ 45 a night, but it just makes me wonder how many other corners were cut in cleaning that room.
