Stopped by for a look, in hopes of some oldies but no luck. Seems this shop is very modernized and up to date with their comics.

My favorite comic store. Coming here from the one I used to go to was the best choice ever. They’re extremely friendly and thoughtful. With the other store they forgot to pull my comic subscriptions half the time, but here they’re always waiting for me, and they’ve even had my back and pulled some I hadn’t asked for yet like the All New Hawkeye comic now that the other Hawkeye run is sadly coming to an end. I love it here. If you’re searching for back issues I’d recommend Alternate Reality. But other than that this store is excellent, check them out!

A shining example of why comic shops are dying out in the world. I love comic shops don’t get me wrong. I grew up in them. Through the good and bad ones you come to see what works and what doesn’t. Usually it comes down to two things. Service and presentation. Although presentation isn’t THAT important if they can make up for it in terms of stock choice and availability. I’ve been to shops that look like a hoarder’s basement that had everything I could want or need over a shop that looked great but with limited selection or price gouged. Chimera falls in the middle. Great location, great presentation and decent service. You’ll find a wide variety of comic fanfare there, even for kids which is a normal thing these days. So why the two stars? Simply put these are Tenth Planet alums. Which was another shop in the same area with a nice location and presentation(which has since been sold off to new owners,(wonder why…) that are located on Southwest Hwy). Tenth Planet just like Chimera, prefer to act more like ebay scalpers than a normal retail store. This mostly pertains to collectibles, toys etc. What’s the point of going to a retail store if they jack up the prices to eBay quality. Even if it’s an older piece, I’ve been to comic shops that still offer those«rare» collectibles at their original retail price. In an age where you can get everything cheaper on the web, you do your best to still support the local little guy. But at this point with how shops like Chimera price their items, I rather stay in. I don’t know them nor owe them anything to continue going. Service wise I’ve had a few grunted hellos from guys who work there. Asking them a price on a statue seems to be a hassle especially if I don’t intend to buy after hearing the price. The atmosphere might look cheery but it doesn’t feel that way. The same goes for their location in La Grange except they’re a bit nicer. My advice if you’re looking for a shop on the south side, try Alternate Reality in Mt. Greenwood. You can even haggle the prices there and they’ll order anything from the catalog they normally wouldn’t carry usually getting a good price. And their selection of collectibles and lots of great reading makes it typically better than even All American Comics in Evergreen Park and other smaller shops in the surrounding areas.

Have been going here for over a year. Great location right in the heart of Oak Lawn, Chimera isn’t your typical comic book shop. It all really comes down the awesome staff, mainly speaking about Sara. Girl always looks out for me and my buddies. Nice small environment, kid friendly, and well organized. One of the best subscription services I’ve ever had is from here. Again, mostly bc Sara makes good recommendations and always looks out for you. Best comic book shop in Oak Lawn, hands down. Mostly free of creeps too.

I went in today to re-introduce myself into the world of comics. The last one I actually read was a Spider-Man, Venom, Carnage graphic novel around 2000. So, I found this place on Unilocal and decided to take a trip. I kind of liked the place. However, I was expecting more for some reason. Its a really small shop, with a limited supply. The only thing I really saw was the really popular stuff, which is to be expected. I was looking more for a Dark Horse graphic novel, which I don’t even know if they exist, but I ended up getting a Scarlet Spider novel. The cashier was actually really friendly. I was expecting«Captain Sweatpants,» but ended up with a cutey, bonus. Bottom line, if you’re looking for a comic, go here. Its a locally owned business, and they’re really friendly!
