This place has been on my radar a long, long time, but I just never visited it till recently. The fact that it closes on Sunday doesn’t help as that’s usually when I visit Funky Buddha… Another silly reason is that I’ve always thought the name is Algeria… And tacos from Algeria just doesn’t sound like the real thing… And it wasn’t till I was sitting inside the restaurant looking at the menu that I finally realize, it’s ALEGRIA. I am honestly say that this is easily the best taco I’ve ever had, and I love good, authentic Mexican tacos. The tacos came out piping hot, almost too hot to hold. The meat is flavorful, al pastor has little chucks of pineapple in it. We went there on a Saturday afternoon and sadly they didn’t have menudo nor lengua taco ready. It’s disappointing, but I guess it means that they make things fresh and don’t have bags of pre-made food ready in the freezer. It also means that I have to be back, soon. This place is really small, the seating is not comfortable, it certainly can’t hold a group more than four, but if you look beyond that, you’ll totally enjoy the food here.

I was in town for the weekend from dallas(so, I know my tacos) and got a hankering for some authentic mexican food. stumbled across this place on Unilocal and it did not disappoint. ordered two tacos with rice and beans. the portions were very generous, the tacos(pastor and asada) were pretty large for street tacos and the refried beans were legit. only con was the size of the restaurant, seat is very limited. I would recommend getting it to go.

really delicious food which is the only reason why I’m not leaving one star BUT make sure to specify LUNCH if you order something with a number. I ordered a #4(enchilada) & was told it was my fault I didn’t specify it was for lunch because there 2 different #4s(the other is a quesadilla) on the menu & got stuck paying for extra food that was their mistake. I was on a lunch break & had to wait an extra 15 minutes to get the correct order that also made me late to work. not a happy camper.

Yesterday, I would have given this place 5 stars, but after the food had a moment to settle in my stomach, my opinion quickly changed. The place is a total dump, but sometimes that means the food is really good. I got violently ill and had the tacos coming out of both ends. It was a horrible evening. Will definitely NOT be back and urge you to trust your instincts. Don’t eat at dirty places!

Authentic, plentiful, and clean… Sums it up for me. This place is tucked away on Andrews ave in Fort Lauderdale. There are the locals and everyone else who is privy to know about this hideaway. My mom and I were here today. She had the steak burrito(huge, she could only eat half) which was served with all the fixings and a side of rice and refried beans. She thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a lunch special which was tacos, steak and chicken with a side of rice and refried beans. The tacos were over flowing with meat and all the usual fixings of a street taco. Then we shared a tamale which we only tasted because we were filled with our lunch order. It is a small quaint establishment with eight seats at most. And two seats outside. But I think that makes it special. It’s just great authentic Mexican cuisine.

This place was not what I expected at all. Food was definitely authentic and I love places that are mom and pops owned. The menudo soul was amazing! So flavorful and tasty. Love their tacos. Cheap eats that are really good. Will be back soon!

I love this place! I eat here all the time since I live and work 5 minutes away, and I get amazing food every time. I’ve had tacos with chicken, carne asada, and carnitas that are all amazing, especially the chicken ones! Their enchiladas are really good too. My coworkers are huge fans of this place as well.

It’s one hour after dining at Alegria Tacos and I currently smell like I went to Tijuana for lunch; even with a meeting pending with my boss in 15 minutes, I am NOT mad about it. What a gem this place is. Truly. I almost didn’t want to write a review because I didn’t want it to become mainstream… but my kind, gluttonous heart could not let one more day go by without my Unilocal friends knowing that there IS somewhere you can find authentic Mexican street tacos in South Florida. Dare I say it might be Oakland Park’s best eats?(Sorry Funky Buddha; RIP Filling Station.) This place is everything you would expect from a delicious taco place. If you blink while driving down Andrews, you might miss its little corner location that literally looks like it’s built into a wall. If you followed my previous posts, you know that my kind of taco shack is a bit run down with those plastic folding tables you can buy at Home Depot; Alegria delivers. Give me my mismatched tables and chairs crowded against each other and the sign about Jesus on the wall; I am all in. The only two words you need to know are these: Al Pastor. Everything else basically doesn’t matter. Okay, everything else is also delicious, but the Al Pastor taco takes the cake. I wish my stomach could expand to 5x its normal size so I could eat 10 of them. Have yet to have a bad experience here; staff is so friendly and kind, food is delicious and affordable. Every taco I have tried has been delectable; I can’t wait to try the enchiladas on my next trip. If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and check it out; it might leave you wishing every day was Taco Tuesday.

I’ve been anticipating this meal since I was here last in July. It’s worth just flying from Indianapolis to get these amazing tacos. Made a last minute, game-time decision and went with a burrito. I’m sure it will be delicious as I have full faith in this place. To be continued…

Unilocal reviews delivered on this one. I ordered a steak taco and chicken taco to go. Probably the best tasting tacos I’ve had in a REALLY long time. I would go again if I’m in the area.

Yup. These are the real deal. I ordered three tacos: chicken, chorizo and al pastor. All 3 were generous portions, deliciously fresh and flavorful. My notes: I would have liked the pineapple to stand out a little more in the pastor. I surprised myself at how much I liked the chicken given that it isn’t tinga style — it was just very fresh tasting. The place is TINY and doesn’t accept credit cards for unders under $ 10, so know before you go, but definitely go.

I like tacos but I LOVEALEGRIATACOS! Okay seriously though, I had trouble finding a good Mexican restaurant here in South Florida but then one of my best girlfriends introduced me to this fabulous hole in the wall and then my life got exponentially better. Being from the Southwest, I grew up on Mexican food and was really bummed that Mexican food wasn’t done right overall in SoFlo. But don’t fear, Alegria Tacos is here! Before Funky Buddha opened up their food kitchen, I would get the three taco meal that comes with rice and beans and then take it to the brewery and devour my food with a nice, refreshing beer. But since FB doesn’t allow outside food anymore, I just go to Alegria Tacos and pray that there’s a spot in their four table restaurant so I can devour my food there. This place is small. Real small. Literally four tables that don’t even match. They have a small fridge for their soft drinks(Coca Cola in a bottle, Jarritos in a variety of flavors). You walk in and you see straight into their kitchen. Ambiance isn’t the best but their food makes up for that more than ten fold. My two favorite tacos are the Al Pastor and Lengua. The Al Pastor is basically pork, marinated with red peppers and pineapple. I have a hard time believing it’s just red peppers and pineapple, they have something secret in it because it’s seriously a burst of flavor in my mouth! Lengua is beef tongue. Before you say«EW!», lengua really does tastes like your normal beef but softer, more tender. It’s sliced thin so you can’t even notice that its tongue. You round off these tacos with their yummy rice and perfectly seasoned beans with sprinkled cheese on top, and you get the ultimate dish that will knock you right into a food coma. Seriously. Take my word for it. It’ll be the best food coma of your life!

My barber and I were chatting about good mom and pop taco places and he mentioned he just discovered this place. So being such a Spanish food lover I couldn’t wait to try it… If you don’t GPS this place you’ll definitely miss it… it is on the main road so you should probably be ok. As you pull up there is a small parking to the right that is convenient. As you approach you kinda think«this is different» but in a good way !! As what golden tacos await me!!:) After walking in the restaurant is quite small and quaint. There is a small seating area with two tables if you care to stay, but I wanted take out. The two women who were running the restaurant handed me a menu and explained some of the popular items. The kitchen is open and all the delicious toppings were exposed and very fresh from the looks. I decided on the three tacos with rice and beans, two chicken and one steak.,. I asked for no cheese as I feel it cheapens the taste. I sat down and luckily I was the only customer, as I’ve heard the place gets quite busy. Observing my surroundings I felt a very homey feel so to speak. The walls she explained were being repainted but it didn’t bother me. After less than 10 mins my food was set to go and I had to open the container and take a peak! ~ everything looked very delish! I arrived home and at first was a little apprehensive to try the beans as I prefer whole black bean but these served as a great dipping for the tacos. The rice though bland –did not disappoint. The tacos were the award winner **by far., I was shocked not only by the taste of the meat but by the crispy double tortilla shells and the pico toppings! Now I knew what all the fuss was about. Stopping in and giving the little taco place a try was definitely more than worth it! The price was right, the food was perfection. Can’t wait to come back for another swirl!!!

I can’t believe I never posted a review for Algeria Tacos. Here is the one I wrote over a year ago: I had had this place bookmarked for a long time! This is one of the best benefits about Unilocal in that you learn about so many incredible restaurants that you would never known about otherwise. Of course a place with well over 250 reviews that ranks over 4 stars has to be a terrific spot. Best of all, Algeria Tacos is located near my favorite drinking spot, the Funky Buddha. However, each time I have left Funky Buddha, I am always too intoxicated to remember. If I was really thinking ahead, it would be great to pick up tacos and bring them with me the next time I go to Funky Buddha. But now, I have finally made it! I really like the restaurant. It is tiny and there was an elderly couple working which I would assume were the owners. I felt like being inside of Algeira tacos was like being transported out of the USA to a restaurant in a foreign country, and I mean all of this in the most positive way. I ordered one of each of the six tacos offered: Al Pastor, Asada, Carnitas, Lengua, Chicken and Chorizo. I felt that the chicken was subpar, but the other five were excellent. My disappointment on all of them was the tortilla. I didn’t really care for it and that takes away from each of the tacos. What was inside of it was delicious! I also tried my first torta and loved it! It was Mexico’s answer to a sandwich the same as a bahn mi is to Vietnamese cuisine. Filled with deliciousness and a spicy kick.

STEAKTACOS. Big shout out to Unilocalers for guiding me here when I was in the area because I sure never would have stopped just from the looks of it. I ordered the steak taco lunch special(two tacos, rice and beans for $ 8.50) and I’m already trying to figure out when I can go back. These tacos were PERFECT and stuffed full of meat, cilantro, onions and tomatoes with a nice salsa with a bit of salsa. The place is tiny with just 4 mismatched tables, they only take debit cards with purchases of $ 10 or more and you eat out of styrofoam but who cares?!? The tacos are that good, it’s a must try and I get why it’s listed in one of the Top 100 in BPB.

I do not want to write this review and tell you how delicious this place is. It’s a small place and easily gets crowded and once you find out how great the tacos, tortas, tamales, etc. are there won’t be room for me to come in and order. Putting aside my selfishness, this place is about as authentic Mexican as you can get in South Florida. It’s true, my Mexican friend even says so. They offer three different meats for your tacos(carne asada, al pastor and lingua) with the traditional toppings of onion and cilantro with lime on the side. If you’re in the area definitely stop by and give them a try. Plus you can take your order to go and enjoy it with a cold beer over at Funky Buddha!

How have I not written a review for Alegria yet?! I swear I’ve been here at least a dozen times over the last couple years since moving to the BPB area. Where to start? First off, this place is TINY. Located off the corner of Andrews and 38th, the inside only seats probably 8 people max. There’s another table outside for 4 – 5 people but that’s it! This isn’t your leisurely dine in Mexican cuisine. It’s meant to be quick and dirty and oh so satisfying. I usually take my order to go and head over to Funky Buddha(another awesome place to visit in the area) just down a few blocks for beers. Anyway. So what have I gotten here? Tacos. Literally. That’s all I’ve had and I’m not complaining. Just give me 3 – 5 tacos depending on my hunger scale and I’ll be happy as a clam. I’ve been spoiled by my California roots and the plethora of tacos trucks and taquerias, and I’m so glad I’ve found this place. I’ve had all their meats besides chicken and I haven’t been disappointed with the quality, quantity, and flavor. My favorite meats here are the al pastor and lengua. Noms. I’m actually salivating just writing this review and may have to make a quick stop to grab some tacos. The price is pricier than what I’m used to paying back in California, but compared to what I’ve paid here in Florida, these tacos are within the expectant price range. Seriously though. Stop reading the review and head over for a bite before I finish all their food.

I expected a little better after reading some of the reviews for this place. Tiny Spanish restaurant connected to an apartment building, or so it seems. I actually ended up parking in the apartment lot. Oops! I decided to go with the Al Pastor grinder. A sandwich with marinated pork, refried beans, avocado, onions, cilantro, jalapeños, and sour cream. It came with about 6 tortilla chips. My coworker ordered the steak tostada that came with rice and beans. I also got some tortillas that were fried or baked and covered in cinnamon sugar. They tasted just like cinnamon toast crunch. By the time I got back to the office with the food my sandwich had gotten a little soggy so I opted to lose the bread and eat the rest of it with a fork and my chips. I live for those«hole in the wall» type places but this one just didn’t do a ton for me. It was far from being bad, just not what I imagined it would be. I’d give it 3 ½ stars if I could…
