The reason why I’d been putting off writing this review is that every time I tried to think of this night, I’d become nauseous. For some truly inexplicable reason, completely out of character for me, my drink of choice during this field trip was bourbon. And it was flowing rather freely. I tried to write this review… honestly I did… even now, weeks removed, I can smell and taste the cheap whiskey. I will try to withstand its memory and thus avoid puking on my netbook. MIchelle C. sold me on this event by telling me there’d be hot girls. Thanks a lot Wine Goddess! Although I must say… Shakira…that ass and those legs were SMOKING! I’m not sure Shakira herself looks THAT good! But yeah, the event — we had a good crowd at Lips and watched all the«women» go through their routines. I felt OK at this point, though in retrospect I was probably looped already, as the intermissions others wrote about in their reviews seemed like nothing to me. There was crowd participation… oh yes. Few escaped hilarious ridicule by the MC. For my part, I seem to remember taking a couple dollar bills up to the stage and burying my face in some big old titties. The show ended, but was the evening over? Oh, no. Evidently, no field trip to Oakland Park would be complete without hitting up a gay country & western bar called Scandals. We go, and this place looks like a traditional rough ‘n tumble country roadhouse. There really should be a line of Harleys parked outside and an outlaw biker gang inside. Instead, there were well-behaved gay men singing mainstream country tunes(it was karaōke night). How this idea came about, I have no clue — but the Scandals patrons thought Paul and I were married. This was the logical explanation, as I was surprised(and a little crestfallen) that no one was hitting on me. Paul and I were ignored while all the men converged on Michelle’s fashion-designer husband, «Gidommy Versace.» Determined to win the crowd over, after Gina bought me yet another cheap whiskey, I took to the microphone. In a gay country and western bar, I decided to belt out Depeche Mode’s classic«Enjoy the Silence.» Perhaps sensing that I was about to make a total ass of myself, in a touching display of solidarity, our CM joined me at the mike and made it a duet. Feeling my groove, after I was done, I put in for Ring of Fire, but we left before the karaōke jock made it there. The next day, I hurt. I hurt myself that night… to see if I still feel.

Okay so a couple of years ago I went to a drag show in Delray. I had such a great time and some of my friends mentioned this place to me! I called my mom up and told her to make it happen for when I came home… and she did with this fab fab UYE! FABFAB pretty much summed up the entire experience. We walked in to this overly gaudy place with sequins, drapes, jewels, lights, etc. We met our whole group at the bar… where else would a bunch of us be? The bartender looked like Fabio, or at least that is what I called him all night? lol. I had a Sex on the Beach to begin with. SO good! and SO strong! We finally sit down at 2 tables close to the stage. The waitresses started coming out to take our orders and get us things. Our waitress… was FABFABGORGEOUS! I mean her body was unreal… she later made an appearance as the one and only Mary J. Blige. Shakira showed up… WOW that was in no way a man… haha. A few other performs came out like my absolute fav Marilyn Monroe… even with her see through dress and thong! She worked it better than any woman I know! Their lip singing and performance could have been a little better but hey, I give them credit for that profession alone! I ordered the Shrimp Scampi I believe… it was good! Although I was filling up on some drinks! The Frozen Cosmo was to die for. I couldn’t get enough of them. We had some shots, I sucked down some more drinks and next thing you know I am busting my butt in front of everyone on stage. Although I wasn’t the only one who gave everyone a show! A certain birthday boy had a great time as well I’m sure! :) Overall, it was a FABFAB night with FABFAB people and I had a FABFAB time! These Unilocalers were great to let loose with!

Oh baby when you talk like that You make a woman go mad So be wise and keep on Reading the signs of my body Shakira Shakira SHAKIRA!!! You wench!!! You stole my 18 yr old body and worked it!!! I sat there going crazy in my mind saying«NOWAY, NOWAY. NOFUCKINGWAY!!!» How is that possible? That is NOT a guy!!! Meanwhile, I tucked into my very surprisingly nice lasagna with a sauce with a kick like Tina Turners. After reading reviews from the past in anticipation of this night, I was really expecting airline food and got all silly excited that it wasn’t and offered everyone in shouting distance a taste. Or maybe that was the beers. We had arranged at our table at the beginning that we would all trek to the bar for our own drinks in order to make splitting the check easier so I doubled fisted each time. Drink’s were NOT at all over the top expensive. Four Heineken bottles and two shots came to $ 25 which included tip. Not too shabby. I agree that the intermission was a bit of a drag and that the rest of the evening wasn’t as exciting at the first half. Barbara’s set was boring(sorry doll!) but having a chance to see Paul sing showtunes along with some divas was more special for me than anything. That kid can give it some heart :) Love you Paul. I gotta give a huge shout out to Amber who ended up with the check and trying to get the money straight. Loved that they had an ATM on premises but I was dreading the«fuckyouuptheass» fee but it was only $ 2 and change!!! Hooray!!! The bartender was a total sweetheart! a HUUUUUUGE thank you to the C. family Unilocalers who pulled this night together. I’ve always wanted to go to Lips and let me say that the company I experienced it with made the night one of those I will never forget.

A UYE down the street from my house; how could I turn this event down. On top of that, a drag show! Talk about a winner. I just watched an episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air so bare with me. Now this is a story all about how I met up with a horde of Unilocalers for dinner and a tranny show at Lips. My life got flipped, turned upside down when I saw Shakira come on stage. And I’s like to take a minute just sit right there to say«wow sexiness» I’ll tell you how I became the Prince of FTL. Born and raised in FTL. In my seat hooting and hollering for TIna Turner is where I spent most of my days. Chilling out with Jessica L., maxing out drinks, relaxing all cool And watching Tina Turner«Rolling on a River». When a couple guys including my boy Paul W. were up to no good(tsk tsk Paul haha). Lets just say they started making trouble in my neighborhood. I took one little look around and I got scared to take a picture. Thanks Jessica L. for having a quick trigger on the camera even if it was a blurry mess. And I decided I was moving over to the bar for some drinks I whistled for Judy Garland and Mary J Blige when they came near The bootie plate yelled«phat» as her hair blew in the air If anything I could say this place, Lips, was rare. It came near an end but I thought nah, its time for one more drink then homes. I pulled up to my house around 10:07 or 10:08 And I yelled to my ride, «Yo homes smell you later» Looked at my house I was finally there To sit on my bed and think what a unique and awesome experience to share with my fellow Unilocal family as the prince of FTL. Special thanks to Michelle C. for organizing a wonderful event and to all those Unilocalers who came out. It was fun.

When I first read about this UYE, I knew it’d be a blast. However, I wasn’t sure what the turnout would be like on a Sunday, with most everyone having school and/or work the next day. Happily, about 16 or 17 Unilocalers came out to share in the fun that is Lips! I carpooled with Patrick L, Michelle C., her hubby and daughter, and we grabbed the lovely/talented Gina H. on our way as well. When we arrived, most all the other Unilocalers were already here and stationed near the bar. After about 20 minutes, a few drinks and some hellos, our group was seated at 2 long tables towards the side of the seating/dining area. As I mentioned in my initial review of Lips that I wrote after I came here several months ago, this isn’t a place where you just walk in, have a seat at the bar, check out the show and take off once you’ve seen enough. Rather, this is an hours long affair where you are seated, have dinner, and then once dinner is over the 4 ladies who were the servers, along with a host, become the performers in the drag show. On this night, nearly everyone seemed to be satisfied with their meals. The food was a bit more expensive than I remember it being in the past, but the quality also seems to have improved. Drink prices were still OK(something like $ 7.50 for a mixed drink, beer was $ 4.50 for imported bottles.) It didn’t seem to take too long between the time we were seated until the time we’d eaten, the plates were cleared away and it was time for the show to begin. The hostess(in full Marilyn Monroe regalia) also interacted with the crowd and did some comedy in between each performance as well. They had a short intermission after the first round of acts, as a few of the«ladies» changed after their first performance and came back on stage again later dressed as a different character. IMO, the intermission kinda killed the momentum of the show a bit. I think it would’ve been better if they’d not had the break and just kept cycling performers through, or at minimum have someone come out and perform a comedy bit during that time while the performers changed, to keep the entertainment going and keep people laughing. In all, this was a unique UYE(we like those), a VERY fun night where people could have a few drinks, let loose, laugh a lot, interact with the performers and even get up and dance if they wanted to. Lips is one of those places that makes you want to have a good time with its zany atmosphere and over the top, campy décor(it can best be described as gaudy with about a dozen mirror balls, colored lights and sequined curtains hanging everywhere). After we left here, a few groups of us ended up a Scandal’s, which is a country/western gay bar not too far from Lips. Normally it’s full of cowboys, all line dancing, swing dancing and 2 stepping away. Since this was a Sunday, the crowd at Scandals wasn’t as big as usual, it was a bit older and they were featuring karaōke. We had lots of fun here as well, had a few more beverages and a few of us got up and sang. I got yelled at for singing«I will survive» as one of the patrons naturally assumed that the very straight Patrick L. and I were married and he thought this was a bad choice of songs for me to pick to sing to him. A few of the patrons here took a liking to Michelle C.‘s hubby as well, but such is life when you bring such stunningly attractive male Unilocalers to a gay establishment! Thanks, Michelle for organizing and hosting such a fun and adventure filled night! My hat’s off as well to a few of the straight guys who let their guard down and had a bit of fun(namely Sergio who was well liked by a few performers, Patrick and Ozzy who went up to give the ladies some singles, and to Domenic who got bombarded by a few hopeful male suitors later in the evening.) Oh, and, um, happy birthday to Josh who was at the next table over from us. Ha ha.

Most Sunday nights are lazy, scripted events for me. Option A) Sit home and watch football or Option B) Go somewhere to eat and watch football. Going to see a drag show? My right-wing Cuban family, coworkers and some friends would be mortified and worse since they subscribe to some unprogressive beliefs. But OK, enough soapboxing. I was intrigued when Michelle posted this event but knew that with her fun and positive energy it would be a blast. Making the road trip up 95(and yes, listening to the Dolphins game) I was a little nervous walking through the door looking for my fellow Unilocalers. The performance started soon as we were ordering as my «waitress» asked if I wanted my Caribbean chicken with white or dark«meat»(emphasis on meat). The dish also came with mashed potatoes(alright, not a fan of mash anyway) and mixed vegetables. The chicken itself had anice dose of seasoning, but was more impressed with the lasagna and thank Gina for letting me taste. Ah to the show: While we were eating, there was perfect music to beat up the beat to. Trance and techno is the best music there is, plain and simple! There was a small issue with the check where some plates were charged twice, and its a minor inconvenience they don’t let you split the check. Our hostess, Diva(she kinda looked lilke Marilyn Monroe but I guess because of little annoyances like copyrights couldn’t use the name) was hilarious and started picking on me and my famous buzzcut. I laughed, turned multiple shades of red and had a fun evening nonetheless. The performers looked like they put attention to realistic looking costumes and did an OK job lipsyncing. My fellow Unilocalers were no wallflowers either. I won’t name names but it was hard to tell who were the better entertainers, those on the stage or our table. Huge thanks to Michelle for organizing a new and hilarious event!

A huge thank you to everyone who came. I could not think of a better way to spend a Sunday night with such cool people. All meeting up, no reservations and they took care of us by getting two tables ready. The hostess was very nice and accommodating. The décor once inside was way over the top. Red and Green sequence curtains hanging, colors and glitter lined the walls, woah quite confusing. Tables throughout the main dining area. Nice size bar off to the side. I might add every single cocktail and shot were awesome. Bartenders knew how to make a damn good drink. Our host finally took us to our tables. We all decided to order off the regular menu. Note, they do NOT split checks. This was kind of a pain for us, as they would only accept two credit cards per table. But of course they had an ATM machine in the hallway. Really, I was not expecting the food to be anything to write home about. I mean you come for the show not really the food. Well to my surprise the food was quite good. Really? I ordered the dark Chicken with mashed potatoes and fresh veggies, very nice flavor, juicy and good. Hubby ordered the Prime Rib, it was also very good. Gina had the Lasagna and was nice enough to let me snag a bite and wow it was delish! To the point so good that they ran out during dinner. All of the dishes I tried were flavored nicely. So yes the show basically starts after everyone is done eating so you sit there for about one and a half hours. I did not really mind as we were all having a great time. The show begins, as Marilyn Monroe was our lovely host. The DJ was jammin out some great tunes throughout the night which made it very hard to stay in your seat. The show itself was entertaining, some better than others. They do try to work the crowd and get everyone involved. Some of the entertainers although they looked fabulous sure did not know how to lip sing. This was a bit of a turn off, I felt they could have done a better job. Bottom line, I love coming to these shows, a few things happened that well let’s just say will stay in Lip’s forever. LOL We had a fabulous time, fun because we made our own party with such wonderful people who came. Great place to go with a large crowd. Different, exciting, sexy, sultry, oh yes fun times were had. Food was better than expected, service was good, entertainment was good, yes a fun place indeed. On a side note when the bill arrived for both tables, they had accidentally charged us for two plates that we did not have. The manager did eventually take care of it but trying to split the bills properly was not easy. My recommendation is go to the bar and get your own drinks individually, so you are not trying to split cocktail’s. That is what we all did and it did make it a bit easier. All in all I would give Lip’s a three and a half stars, but for the UYE and such fun people all I can say is I had an awesome time! Thank you, thank you all who came… Oh and the after party was a complete BLAST!
