I went in to get brunch with an old friend. The coffee seemed big, the prices seemed reasonable and the food seemed delicious. Turns out it was all true. There are no servers, but there’s a guy whose only job is to visit and make sure you’re happy, it was a great experience. I’m looking forward to going back for the pulled pork.

I recommend trying this place out at least one for brunch(but it’s their busiest time). I’ve had a few items off their menu and I’m not the biggest fan. Good selection but their fried food is so greasy and could use more of a balance. Definitely isn’t what it was about the year ago. This is one of those places you go to when you’re looking for a grease kick. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, all bar height. The backlight on the tables was a fun and unexpected touch. The coffee/espresso is great. They always have a few options for baked goods. I recommend this place on their less busy days for a nice place to chill with a cup of coffee. They also take orders over the phone for pick up and the website is up to date with the full menu. Side note: lots of diners bring their dogs here!

Service and food were both amazing ! I had the eggs scrambled with cheese and chicken apple sausage. The biscuit is also amazing.

Place is small, with community-style seating on the inside and a few tables and chairs surrounding the front of the building. Food is delicious! My cousin and I visited this place and ordered family style, which was easy to do as the portion sizes are plenty and the prices are reasonable. My favorite dishes were the fried fish sandwich, fried chicken sandwich,

What an awesome little gem in Oakland! This place has great sandwiches and I love the different side item choices. You can choose regular fries, sweet potato fries, or a side salad for no extra charge. You can also upgrade to the garlic fries, which we did. I was very impressed with the sandwiches, but the garlic fries were not great. It tasted like fresh chopped garlic was slapped onto the fries. They need to change up the recipe. Perhaps make them Garlic Parmesan fries… just a thought. Customer service was great! We were able to walk in and place our order right away. Cons: You have to go through their kitchen to get to the bathroom. I would invest in some small items to fix up the bathroom. It needs a details cleaning, better hand soap and fragrance.

Great food. The food has a way of satisfying a greasy craving with whole ingredients. Everything is prepared perfect. Driving by it you may never think to go in, but it’s definitely becoming a local favorite. I personally love their pulled pork sandwich. The pork has a sweet flavor, I believe it cooked in Hoisin. Also the folks that run it are very nice and decent people. Always friendly, always courteous. If you come in enough, they’ll remember you. And it’s definitely the kind of place you want to recognized at. Highly recommended. It’s located in kind of a rough area, but it’s never seemed dangerous. Just kinda hoody. notes** I believe it’s Thursdays and fridays that the parking on the street is closed off for street sweepings. My buddy narrowly avoided a ticket once but I’ve seen them on cars more than a few times.

I feel like this place is under new management. My first visit was earlier this year and I absolutely LOVEDIT! The chicken was thick and juicy. The flavoring was AH-MAZIMG. The sauce was bomb. The chicken in the sandwich I had today was thin and reminded me of middle school cafeteria food. Needless to say, it was lackluster.

Was visiting a glass studio in the area, and came across this restaurant on Unilocal when searching lunch options. Although small inside, they have seating outdoors, too. The(owner?) was very friendly and helpful, making suggestions, as well as ensuring my son’s food would be allergen friendly. The pork hash was fantastic! It was a huge helping of meat, potatoes, veggies, and eggs. My husband also enjoyed his burger, garlic fries, and cookie. And the thai tea was a nice treat. Everything was yummy and affordable.

I love that there is a café in this part of west Oakland. You would never imagine this years ago. The service was super friendly, limited seating inside and they also had seating outside. We ended up sitting outside which was ok since it was a nice day, but there were quite a few flies milling about and just slightly annoying when you are trying to eat and enjoy your lunch. I ordered a veggie burger which was made out of brown rice. It was tasty and had an aioli/chimichurri on it. Anthony had a sandwich that reminded me of a bahn mi. The meat was super tasty with the Asian flare. I give it a 3 but really more of a 3.5.

Been here several times for breakfast and lunch and have never been disappointed. This family-run eatery has exceptionally friendly service and the food is consistently good. Really, really delicious chicken sando that i would say combines southern and Vietnamese flavors. Five stars for the chicken sando and the service. The guy from San Jose who blames this little establishment for gentrifying the neighborhood, is a pitiful, clueless turd-ball. Don’t mind him.

Kudos to the owner of 10th& Wood for capitalizing on the undiscriminating, white-guilt-having, blind-trend-following, hipster larva. The staff was friendly and welcoming enough, but wouldn’t know good food if it was thrown in their face. I have several questions I need to know:(1) Why was my food served cold?(2) How come there was so much bad food?(3) Do they know the difference between quantity and quality?(4) Do they know what a biscuit is? I’d suggest trying Brown Sugar Kitchen or Aunt Mary’s to find out.(5) How the hell did this place get 4 stars??? I had the pork hash and as I said before, it was cold and not good at all(i.e. watery, stringy, and too sweet) — but they give you lots of it! I wouldn’t go back to this place if my life depended on it — and judging by the neighborhood, it almost did. As an African American male, I have nothing to prove by eating at some crappy neighborhood eatery. Good luck with your gentrification(for an accurate statement of how this place is gentrifying the neighborhood, see Basil B.‘s review from 2013). BB

The fried chicken sandwich at 10th& Wood is like Bakesale Betty meets Banh Mi Ba Le. East meets west. Or rather, East Oakland meets West Oakland. For less than $ 10, you really can’t complain. I’m not sure if they make their own fries themselves, but they were the thick, soft, steak style fries. They toast the inside of the bun and mine was burned, but the chicken is really good and the jalapenos, cucumbers and pickled cabbage are much appreciated. The staff are so so friendly. This is a good spot to grab take out and I like supporting them.

This is an unusual find in West Oakland near the 980 curve. OK, maybe not that unusual since Tanya Holland opened the wildly popular Brown Sugar Kitchen in the general vicinity a few years back. This is a much smaller operation buried in a quiet, working class residential area. You really need your GPS on to find it, but there it is on the corner where apparently a fish-fry joint used to be. Now painted an electric green and decorated in a ’70’s– era shopping mall tree motif, it offers an eclectic, Southern-style breakfast and lunch menu that you order through a glass window, a practice more common in tougher neighborhoods like Chicago’s South Side. You even pick up your own order through a small kitchen window. Inside there are only two communal tables and on the sidewalk, a few café tables, which explains why most people get their orders to go. I have to admit I was so drawn by the baked goods they stacked against the window that I wasn’t paying as much attention to the breakfast menu. Straight off, I went for a $ 2.50 slice of House Made Banana Bread which was moist and sweet and everything a Saturday morning treat should be(photo: ) especially with a $ 2.50 cup of Coffee(photo: ). But back to breakfast, I bypassed the alluring $ 7.99 Elvis French Toast with nutella, bananas and tempura batter for the $ 9.50 Pulled Pork Hash. I was amazed and somewhat embarrassed by the massive quantity of slow roasted pork, potatoes, onions and peppers on my plate. The two sunnyside-up eggs were dwarfed by that pile of meat(photo: ). Believe it or not, I would have preferred less meat and more onions and peppers, particularly because the pork had a more vinegary taste than I was hoping for. Still, who can argue with pork hash leftovers for two days, a habit I should be invoking more? I think it’s cool that owner Vladimir Levitansky was a circus clown in Russia before settling in West Oakland where his dream was to open a friendly spot to have coffee and see the same people every day. Meanwhile, an inconsiderate hipster rolled in on his skateboard and kept banging the wheels on the concrete floor with his unimpressive acrobatics. I believe he had armpit hair for his goatee. Yep, this place attracts those types as well. FOOD — 4 stars… Southern comfort food and plenty of it to fill your gut in the daylight AMBIANCE — 3 stars… it’s West Oakland… chill SERVICE — 3 stars… ordering was fine… I was just unclear I was supposed to pick up my own plate TOTAL — 4 stars… if you want pulled pork hash for days .

What a great find! This is such a cute little café/breakfast joint in the middle of a neighborhood in Oakland. Came here on a Saturday and the place was relatively busy, but most orders were for to-go. The price isn’t bad and they give you huge portions. I had the scramble while my friends got the pulled pork and French toast weekend brunch special. The food came out quickly and was so good! Everything tasted very homey and hearty — a great way to start the day.(The cookies in the window were also HUGE). The man that took our order came out from behind the counter and asked us how our food was. We learned that he is the owner of the store and he comes in super early ever morning to prepare for the day! He even brought over samples of their ginormous cookies and banana bread over for us to try. He was such a nice person and is doing a great job in opening up this restaurant(it shows in the food and service)! The inside was decorated with trees on the walls and everything was very tidy and clean as well. There is even a nice sunny area outside to sit. Definitely recommend for an enjoyable breakfast with friends or family. Ambiance: 3.5÷5 Food: 4⁄5 Service: 5⁄5 Overall Experience: 4⁄5

Very good! Everything taste very fresh. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries, and my Fiancé ordered the Elvis French Toast. The chicken breast is very moist and fresh, and the jalapeño and the Asian slaw add perfect spicy and sweetness to the sandwich. Also the sweet potato fries is crispy on the outside but it feels like melted in the mouth. The Elvis French Toast is also good too. With banana, chocolate syrup. Will definitely come back.

Nice breakfast place. I had fried fish sandwich and a cup of coffee. I wasn’t sure when I was heading to this place, because it was in the residential area and there was no other restaurant. However, suddenly this place showed up and looked interesting. The service was friendly and the interior was cool. The fried fish was a little heavy for breakfast but always I can save for lunch or snack.

The café is located in the middle of an Oakland neighborhood. You can find street parking pretty easily, and the place looks like a complete hole in the wall(house transformed into a café). We came on a Sunday morning and there was no one there yet! The interior is very artsy with the tree designs on along the walls. The woman who took our order was very friendly. We got the pulled pork breakfast plate and the fried chicken sandwich, plus some coffee(total was a little over $ 22). Everything was great! I especially enjoyed the fried chicken sandwich with the seasoned fries. Very simple, but overall great flavors. I would most definitely come here again!

I literally live on the same street as this gem of a place. I pass it everyday. One day, I decided to bike down a couple of blocks to check this place out. My roomies have said nothing but great things about this place so it was a no brainer. This joint is located on the corner of 10th and Wood, hence the name! It’s definitely taking what used to be a run-down joint and transformed it into a neighborhood vibe. You can see resemblance of what used to be and the wall art used to mask up the former construction. Wall art was a wooden tree, created to showcase art, menu items and other stuff. This place offers outside and inside seating. Inside is a high top picnic-style seating. Two long tables so you can hopefully create serendipitous interactions with other diners. The outside area offers bike racks and tables. Some of the tables outside weren’t bussed off like they should have been. The tables inside weren’t wiped down, gave off a slightly sloppy vibe. For lunch, here’s what I got: Patty Melt for $ 9.50. Caramelized onions, ½ lb. all beef burger, Swiss cheese, rye bread with a thousand island dressing. This dish is served with seasoned fries, sweet potato fries or side salad. I chose the sweet potato fries with garlic. The fries were a little soggy and had A LOT of garlic on it. A little too much. The patty melt was good. The onions were less caramelized and more crunchy than I preferred. Like any patty melt, I enjoyed the combination of thousand island, Swiss and rye. At the end of the day, this burger was OK. Not the best I know it can be. The convenience of this place will have me coming back in the future. Hopefully upon my return, I can try something else that will blow me away! On the other hand though, kudo for bringing something amazing to the community!
