My favorite gym in Oakland. No nonsense type of place. It has everything a powerlifter or bodybuilder needs. Perfect for people who want to train and go home. Waiting for equipment is VERY rare. Everyone lets everyone work in between sets when necessary. Everyone is very friendly and knows everyone. The only drawback is the hours. It opens a little later than other gyms and is closed on Sundays, but the benefits of this place by far outweigh the only drawback. I really wish most gyms were like this one.

Notes from a quick visit. Doesn’t open until 8am. Street parking. Churches make parking hard at night, though you can park at the ShopRite next door. Hard core pros and some regular folks. Medium to small size, though they have sufficient free weights, machines, and cardio equipment. The owner is famous. Around $ 50 a month with a variety of payment plans.

Best gym in East Oakland. They’ve got a ton of weights to get you swoll. Diego is one of the most respected body builders and trainers in the world. If you go to his gym, you’re going to get in shape. Period.

The awful man who owns this gym is a misogynist and all around disgusting. He believes that he owns the entire sidewalk from his building to the street and today when my dog used the bathroom closest to the street (where a tree will go when they pave foothill again) he threatened to hurt me.
I’ve toured his gym before this. Empty. The one woman I talked to there said he was very rude and called names. Not surprising.
If you’re in east oakland and your dog needs to go #2, Diego’s Power Alley Gym is the place for you!

This is a hidden gem in Oakland. The people here really understand how the body works! When I first walked in to find out about membership, I was using a cane because I was recovering from injuries. I ended up signing up for personal training and Diego got me walking normally again!
I have seen people coming to this gym to prepare for competitions and to improve in their sports of choice, so I know that they work with serious athletes in addition to ordinary folk like me.

By far the best gym for the money. Total access to the gym, no matter what time of the day. Gym is always clean and you cannot find some of the equipment he has anywhere else — specialized and designed to target key muscle groups.
Diego and Michelle really know there stuff. If you’re in need of a trainer and are serious, you won’t find a more competent and knowledgable trainer. At 45, I’m in the best shape of my life (by far) — all thanks to them. The people who work out there are now my extended family.
Ladies — if you want to avoid the meat market type atmosphere and feel comfortable sweating amongst gentlemen, you’ll appreciate this gym.

Concord, CA
Joined in December. Diego Chairs is the owner. (You can see him in the film «The Dead Pool». It’s the 5th in the Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry series. Diego plays Butcher Hicks in the San Quentin prison scene.) He is my personal trainer and he will either get me in fantastic shape or I will keel over dead, because he will work you out like no other. He is buddies with and competed against Schwarzenegger. He has been in business since the late 80’s. Tons of equipment, no waiting for access to machines or free weights, and a friendly & supportive atmosphere. I live in Concord and work in S. F. so this place is out of my way but very very worth it. Reasonable rates for membership and personal training from «The Man» himself.
