Yuck! I ordered a «chicken torta» that was really just a bland chicken breast sandwich. After one bite noticed an unspeakable hair on the untouched half. I walked out without bothering to complain and will never go back. I don’t expect much from Mexican joints in this area(e.g. Happy Burrito), but please don’t make me wretch.

I went to this restaurant for the first time one week ago today. The food is great but what I really liked most is how clean it is.

Don Willy’s crushes El Chilar and Happy Burrito. I really wish they were open for dinner =(

Best taqueria in Oakland! Fast and friendly service. Carne asada super burrito is awesome. All dishes come with tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa was not too hot, has just the right amount of kick. Walking distance only 2 — 3 blocks from the Oakland courthouse. I will definetly come here again :)

Being Mexican, I am above and beyond picky about where I eat the cuisine I was raised on. I work 5 blocks from this place, so i rush there and back for lunch whenever I can. The steak burrito is damn good, and i finally decided to try the fajitas last week, which were just as good. The green salsa is the best I’ve ever had(glad mom doesn’t read Unilocal!). For those that are interested, they use Niman Ranch beef. The service is friendly and they have agua fresca of the day, and something I hardly ever see, fill your own cup of pickled jalapeños from the big glass jar!

CARNITAS! Cross Gordos, Happy Burrito, Xolo Taqueria and that place next to Bakesale Betty’s that is never open… off your oakland mexican lunch list. Add Don Willy’s. You will die happy from a food coma.

The people who work here are some of the nicest and friendliest you’d ever want to meet and it’s one of the best places downtown to get a burrito. They are less expensive than the folks over at Happy Burrito, just a block away and slightly less busy. And they don’t charge for chips like Happy Burrito! I’ve only ever had burritos from here, so I don’t know how other dishes are but this is the go to place for my co-workers when they want Mexican food for lunch.

Unfortunatly, this place is really only 2.5 stars, maybe. I love burritos, but was not happy with the one I got here. It was BLAND and the parts that weren’t just had salsa and tortilla. I would recommend avoinding this place.

I really like this place for a good, simple bean and cheese burrito. I haven’t tried their other fare yet, but I’m very happy with what I’ve had. Also, the price can’t be beat. And most of all, they are very friendly and fast.

If you are absolutely starving, dehydrated, sickly, and malnourished… Still don’t go here. I’d rather go hungry and hope for the Red Cross to drop some food out of the sky before I go here again. Over-priced and under-whelming: Don Willy’s is a lunch-time work trap like so many other restaurants in the area. Items here are $ 1-$ 2 more than they should be for everything. Portions are pretty small for what you pay. This is typical of the area, mostly catering to the downtown Oakland lunch crowd. It pains me that much higher quality/less expensive Mexican options are so close yet so far. The food is just okay but the combination of the price, and the mediocre service push this down to a 2-star joint.

Meh. Very average. Had the pastor burrito. Wouldn’t go back… not awful, just dull. Bland meat, quite a bit of gristle, boring salsa, stale chips, zzzzzzz…

Don Willy’s still delights! Had a to-go order adobada with tasty sauce, super quesadilla… with plenty of meat, chile and cheese. Chips and red and green salsas on the side. I ate every morsel.

One indicator of a good mexican restaurant is their CARNITAS. I come here for one thing — the CARNITAS Super Burrito, with everything — and refried beans. It is delicious, well balanced, and puts a smile on my face every time. I tried worming the recipe out of the chef, but to no avail. Good man… I don’t know if I would be so willing to share my secret recipes either. They do CARNITAS right. Tender, moist, and seasoned just right. Mmm, mmm, good!

Had the chicken super burrito for lunch today. Desent sized burrito, with chunks of chicken, spanish rice, tomatoes. Comes with a small quanitty of chips & home made tasting salsa. Pretty good, not quite as awesome as Axltan around the corner. 3.5 Stars…

It turns out al pastor is the unfortunate meat outlier as both carnitas and chile verde both proved to be quite tasty. This place is definitely my new favorite Mexican lunch place near work.

So my sweetie was looking at the credit card statement prior to paying it off & said, «Oh, man! You got to go to Don Willie’s! I love that place!» That reminded me that I hadn’t written a review. I love Don Willie’s, too. The nachos are excellent, the salsa is good, the burritos are filling, I had excellent mole here. Friendly staff & different specials throughout the week. Nice lunch place!

Your chicken enchiladas with green sauce, black beans & Spanish rice made a city gal’s tummy mucho happy. Ay Carumba! PS: to the sole Unilocaler who reads my posts: they have a yummy carne asada but much to your chagrin, it’s well-done.
