Dr 3 Mattress Recycling

As of January 1, 2016 mattress recycling is now FREE at this location ! Apparently a new California law took effect that now adds on a fee to each new mattress purchase.
Wish they were open on weekends but discarding of a mattress/​box spring for free makes it worth a weekday run.

Hauled 3 mattresses here today. The price was $ 10 per mattress to dispose of them which was hundreds less than if I took them to the junk yard! Saving money & recycling is a win-​win! You have to get them there yourself, but if you don’t have a uhaul to get them there it’s still cheaper than taking them to the dump or using a junk haul service! 5-​stars

They also recycle foam mattress pad toppers (as long as they are NOT latex!), too! It was a little weird trying to find it, but they didn’t charge me to drop off the foam which was great! Thanks!

Simple and quick! I had a queen mattress and box springs that I needed to get rid of. The Salvation Army wouldn’t take it because of the edges of the mattress were ripped. My boyfriend found this place and information it was closed by the time he had looked it up. We were able to make it today and it was fast and only cost 20.00 cash for a mattress and box spring set. We did have to unload the mattress ourselves but if you have difficulty doing that I believe one of the workers will help out. Again, super fast, cheap and it helps reduce the amount of landfill waste. A win win situation!

This is a great business that meets a business need as well as a great mission. I ended up with a queen mattress after my son moved to HI– drove the mattress down to Oakland and was able to drop it off, pay and be back on the road in less than 5 minutes.
The idea of taking these mattresses apart to maximize the recycling components as well as reduce what goes into the landfill is good on its own but providing local employment as well as using the profits to help with homeless makes it a stand-​out business.

This place is FANTASTIC. It’s easily accessed by 580 and/​or 880. I had just one mattress, and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I pulled up and handed one man $ 7 cash while another man took the mattress out of the back of my truck. And that was it — in and out. I was there less than 5 minutes. That is my kind of convenient.
A note about the location, since I didn’t see a sign: Medford is a short street off of 98^th Ave that heads back into warehouses. There is a chain link fence and right before the gate for it is a lot you can back into with a loading dock. That’s where you pull in to drop off.

Moved into a place that has a side yard the landlord keeps a storage shed in. She said I can use the space if I clean it up. 14 mattresses some one had dump there had to go so I call the local land fill and they said it would be $ 15 to $ 30 apiece. Ouch! Did a search, found Dr 3 and gave them a call. At $ 7 a mattress this paid for the gas and my time to deliver to their warehouse in Oakland. 9921 Medford Ave is the address right off of 98^th Ave in the old Granny Goose factory. I asked about the minimum amount required and he said that no longer is applied. So if you have one to one thousand to recycle, do yourself and the environment a favor and go see these guys

Writing this both to say how great St. Vincent dePaul is as a recycling/​donation resource and to set the record straight a bit. Please Note, «Little Guy» recyclers: The facility at 9235 San Leandro (Oakland) is, actually, St. Vincent dePaul, NOT DR3; and they do, indeed, deal with larger numbers/​quantities of some items, like mattresses. But they also will come to pick up your furniture or whatever, when you schedule an appointment, so that you don’t have to schlep it down there yourself. They’re an excellent resource.
DR3, on the other hand, although owned by St. Vincent dePaul, is completely independent from them. They WILL accept any number/​quantity of items to be recycled –mattresses, pillows, foam & styrofoam (Yes! …and with a minimum of rules and special policies!), CDs/​DVDs, and just about anything else. Their facility is at 9921 Medford Avenue (Oakland), and their phone number is (510) 798‑3734. Call ‘em and ask questions, if you have any, so that you can get rid of all your clutter and start 2013 with a minimum of stuck energy and obstacles! It’ll do you good! :o)

Getting rid of a mattress is not a fun task. It’s bad for the environment, recycling facilities are not plentiful and not many people want to buy your lifeless worn out mattress on Craigslist. I thought DR3 would be the miracle solution. And it is… for business like hotels and colleges. Unfortunately for typical household folks like me they do not take single mattresses from individuals. However, their website does list many helpful resources so I didn’t feel completely rejected.
So, five stars for diverting 2,500 TONS of mattresses from our local landfills and creating jobs in the process. Minus one star for not taking mattresses from the little guys. (If I could only take off half a star I would.)
Bottom line, if you or someone you know has a business that needs to get rid of a bunch of mattresses, (they also recycle books, magazines, CDs and DVDs, clothing, and household goods) don’t chuck them in the landfill, call up DR3.

D R Three is where beds in the bay area come to be recycled. In just a short visit during business hours you quickly see beds broken down to their metal springs /​wood frames /​& materials and then packaged in the form of raw materials to begin a new cycle. This company makes it very easy to drop off mattresses, especially if you have alot of mattresses.

This is a great place to recycle large amounts of mattresses… if you happen to have large amounts of mattresses!
