Dr. Gail Martin M.D., Kaiser Permanente Medical Center-Oakland

Thank you UnilocalERS! I have been looking for a primary physician for a long time and been through a lot of them… Dr Gail Martin is a keeper!
She explain everything thoroughly and she was very kind. She gave me a sense of relief after I left my appointment. Especially since I was having dizzy spells and NO ONE in the 3 – 4 primary doctors I’ve been through can tell me what was wrong with me. She ensured me I was A-​OK!
She is also very prompt with responding to my emails!

I just changed my primary care physician to Dr. Martin based on the Unilocal reviews and boy were they right!!! She is so incredibly thorough and really does her job right! She does a thorough history which most MD’s these days skip over (and are very important) and doesn’t settle for good enough, she really checks everything that could be wrong. She is kind and attentive too… what more could you ask for?

I went in with a relative who is in her 80’s and needed to hear what Dr. Martin had to say and to be sure we got a clear understanding what is going on. Dr Martin is very understanding and actually takes the time to listen.

I’m on the other end of the age scale from the previous reviewer, in my 50s and I too have had just a great experience with Dr. Gail Martin. She is thorough and very caring, and always follows up with timely preventive care and on any health concern that I have when I see her. If you have Kaiser and are in the Oakland area, she would be a great primary care doctor to look into. Also, I know she and others in her group have a young adults clinic that people are really happy with.

Dr. Martin is a great doctor. She’s my primary care physician, specifically a «young woman’s doctor». I’ve been seeing her since I was about 15, now I’m 24 and she’ll still a great fit. She’s like a mom, which may not be everyones style for a doctor but I really love her. She’s super super caring, once she even shed a tear when I was telling her about a particularly hard time in my life.
I’ve always appreciated being able to see her for all my doctor needs, even for gyno things, especially when I was younger and those types of exams were particularly frightening, it was great that a doctor I already knew and trusted could do it.
She’s definitely super busy, which is annoying, but that’s Kaiser. She’s really great at replying to e-​mails though and even prescribing (or renewing) minimal things that way which is super convenient.
If anyone is looking for a doctor for their teenager especially I would recommend her. She’s caring and comforting like a mom, but one you don’t feel awkward talking about sex with. I remember the first time I asked her for birth control I was so nervous and she didn’t even flinch, she made all that stuff so easy and for someone in high school who doesn’t feel comfortable talking about sex with adult that is really important.
