I needed to get a poster framed and I read all the reviews about the shop and went to check it out. I showed John the print and he helped me find the perfect mat and frame for a really tough to match dark green and yellow Oakland map print/poster. He made sure it was the right combination. His expertise on how the colors work off each other and how you should see the print first not the mat. After several different combinations we found the perfect match. He also put a rush on it and had it done in a week just in time for my house party to show it off. Highly recommended.

John is great! He spent a lot of time helping me pick the best frame. His prices are extremely competitive– even a 55% off michaels coupon couldn’t beat him(and who wants to go there anyway). All around, a great experience.

Excellent work at reasonable prices. John is so talented and wonderful to work with as is his father. I brought them a giant mirror and they hand made a wooden frame for it that is exquisite. They made it so it perfectly fits in a space over my mantle in my living room as if it were built into the mantle. Also, they have framed some other difficult three-dimensional pieces for me with amazing results. Recently they framed two sugar skull prints that were really difficult to find a mat for due to the multicolored detail in the prints. The frame needed to be very carefully chosen as well as to show off the prints but not to overwhelm the eye. We worked together to come up with a winning combination that shows off the prints in all of their glory, without taking away from them; authentic-looking Mexican styled frames with a bright yellow mat. Amazing! Also, the care that is taken with the art and all of the work that goes into protecting it is much appreciated. They use only the finest materials and quality is top notch.

They used to be good and cheap and reliable. They don’t return calls or open the shop anymore. I hear the son took over.

I selected Philip Kim’s shop over all the others I investigated in downtown Oakland. Our startup needed creative, inexpensive framing for the good press we were getting. Not only is his service excellent in his shop, but let me tell you he did creative cutouts to make these ho-hum newspaper clippings look unique! He made some set forward 3-D style and even tied them together with related matt colors. Soon the boss and the employees were bring in memorabilia for him to frame, then their kid’s paintings, well you get the picture. Who comes to your business and picks up and delivers? Eden Custom Framing does! The best – absolutely.

SHHHH! I was trying to keep him a secret! I guess since the word is out that there is a top notch framer in Oakland. I better throw in my 2 cents and second these high marks. If you are an artist and you live in the east bay it would be a good idea to check this guy out. Anyone in need of framing should go. Investigate. Do a price comparison. One thing you should know is… you can’t match the service!

The young man who plans the frame, mat, etc is extremely knowledgeable with a very keen artist’s eye. I felt well served from start to finish and thought the price was quite reasonable. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Don’t let the tiny little store front fool you, this place is a gem! I have a LOT of art and I only go to John to get it framed now because he is so good and creative and his prices are so good. The main reason I go though is that he really loves what he does and it shows up in what he produces. Usually, I have something kind of in mind when I go in, and then he will come up with things I’d never even thought of that end up being so perfect and always get compliments. He really knows his merchandise and he always comes up with the perfect and most appropriate framing choice for my artwork. In addition, he is always thinking in terms of cost and lets me know the choices I have and how they will affect the cost. He really does try to keep it low. Framing is not cheap — but I once got a quote for a project from a framer in Montclair(who, by the way, took about 10 minutes to even acknowledge I was in his store when I came in) that was 3 times what John quoted. And John ended up suggesting a matte that was way cooler than the one I was planning on.
