Endgame

Came here on a Thursday night for game night. When we arrived there was a sign that said «knock on the side door on 10^th street». When we knocked on the side door, a large white man with a beard looked at us as if we were idiots for knocking. Hey asshole! If you don’t want anyone to come take off the fucking sign!!!

I adore Endgame. It’s a great place for gamers and Magic players. They have lots of events, an active social media presence, and really knowledgeable, friendly staff. I love coming here to shop, play magic, or game. It’s getting even better with the café!

Poor review is due entirely to the level of customer service I received. As is all too common in these types of stores, the register had 4 – 5 guys hanging around it with no way to distinguish employee from customer. I was completely ignored by all of them as they were too busy with their conversation to bother with someone new coming into the store. After browsing for 10 – 15 minutes without being acknowledged I left.
Store itself is large with a second story gaming area. They seemed to have a good selection including board, card, and miniature games. Would recommend if not for the poor service.

NERD ALERT! This spot reeks of The Simpsons’ Comic Book Guy, but in a really good way. The store is always filled with RPG type dudes politicking about some super geeky ish. I’m a huge fan of this place. They have all kinds of super cool and super rare games. I’m a big fan of board games, card games, video games, all games. I recently grabbed a copy of Wits & Wagers. The staff here is really knowledgeable and helpful. Come take look at the inventory!!!

Absolutely love this store, the guys are always nice and helpful. I’ve also used their space upstairs for gaming with a group of friends and we had a blast, it felt intimate even though all the tables were full. I make it a point to come here versus buy my stuff online since this shop is so great!

Wow! Incredible store. Two-​stories. They seemingly have everything and well-​organized. Easy to find stuff. Plenty of gaming areas. Guys at the counter were great. Helpful, efficient, courteous. Easy and plentiful street and garage parking. The only thing less than optimal was the evening hours. You won’t be hanging here super late. It is Oakland, so I understand.

I’ve been in many game stores over the years. Endgame has a good selection, including boardgames, old board/​war games, miniatures, RPG, and some other (e.g., puzzles, old RPG magazines). They have some tables upstairs, with some miniatures landscape shelves, and what appeared to be a game library. Everything seemed clean, even the restroom. The gaming schedule seemed pretty packed.
Unfortunately, the experience was lackluster. The employee at the cash register wasn’t engaging and made fun of another customer to someone that was clearly a regular. The selection is good, but not great (e.g., barely any CCGs). The upstairs is laid out such that it’s hard to get around and I continually felt hemmed in. Then the other people there (Saturday mid-​day) weren’t so considerate, e.g., two guys playing an RPG at the end of the table right at the top of the stairs such that to go up/​down that stairway everyone has to squeeze around one of them (even though there are plenty of empty seats at the same table or the three empty tables behind them)…or the six people playing an RPG next to the game library that were apparently having loud group indigestion… or the regular customer that just sort of got in the way in the browsing aisles.
I’m glad Endgame exists, but I doubt I’ll be returning. I had a much better experience at Game Kastle.

This store is locally owned and operated by a great staff of nice, well versed gamers who love the products they sell. The retail section is well organized and clean. All prices are well marked and the products are in excellent condition.
The best part of this place really is the staff. The guys who work there have played nearly every game in the store. Not sure if that Pandemic game sounds any good? They can tell you, in the detail only a truly dedicated geek can, just what kind of game it is. Not sure which D&D manuals you need to get a gaming group started… they do.
If you are a gamer, then this is the store for you. The only thing holding back that fifth star — the selection isn’t quite as comprehensive as other stores in the East Bay.

I’ve been gaming here for years now and thought I’d finally give it the positive nod it deserves.
This is probably the best gaming store I’ve been in, though Games of Berkeley comes close to be sure! The advantage Endgame has for me is a much more accessible game space upstairs. GoB does have a public play area downstairs, but it’s always in use — and I was advised by the friendly folks at the desk that it’s first come first served, and the first come are already there… and have been for years!
Too bad. Endgame could expand their on-​the-​floor options a bit — I’ve had to order stuff they didn’t have in stock a few times — but I always got what I wanted in the end. Thanks for being there Endgame, and many happy returns!

Usually I have nothing but positive things to say about this place. Today Feb 22, I went in to see of they had any new books or cards for me to add to my collection and the guy at the counter seemed totally disinterested in even being there. I was never greeted, asked if I needed help finding anything, no eye contact even. After a while of searching I asked if they had a specific item in stock only to get a one word response of «no.» No offer to order it, like I’m a total waste of space.
I didn’t wind up buying anything today and until they do something about that guy, I think I’ll be collecting from the other game/​hobby stores in the area.

Walked in on a Sunday afternoon and told the guy at the counter I was new in town and looking for a new place to hang after moving across the country.
Walked around and asked questions and no one seemed willing to actually help me.
They’d point me to something and not explain where anything was or give me more than the basic answer.
It felt like I was being a pain and I felt unwelcomed. It’s is a shame because I heard so many good things about this place.
Asked about events and would get one word answers and annoyed looks. The guy seemed like he wanted to be on his computer more than helping me feel welcome. In all a spent an hour in the store and only got one worded answers or I’d be ignored.
Asked about games being held and I was handed a piece of paper with no explanation.
… I don’t think I’ll stop by again. It’s a shame. It’s a very large store.

This place has all kinds of games and gaming supplies: from board games to tabletop RPGs to puzzles to books, dice, and miniatures. It even has gaming space upstairs, and a calendar to keep the games organized.
I will often step in here just to browse and see what kinds of fun things they’ve got on display. The staff are always pleasant, the space is always well-​organized, and I always find something new and exciting in here. Honestly, if my wife didn’t end up dragging me out of here every time, I might start camping out.

Nice guys running the shop, tons of board games, chances are if it’s an obscure German game you can find it at Endgame :)

This is easily my favorite game store in the bay, they are also a terrific place to play games. They have all sorts of events including a ton of Magic The Gathering, which is my particular game of choice. They have fair prices, a great selection and the staff knows their games! The always impressive bonus is how clean and organized store and play spaces are. I play here multiple times a week and the community is very supportive and great to learn from.

I dont buy card/​board games all the time, but when I need something specific Endgame is the place to go. Two stores closer to my house had nothing, so I took the BART to 12^th st and found exactly what I needed.
The staff is helpful and fairly knowledgeable, but its the selection that sets this place apart. They also have tourneys and events multiple times per week.
If I lived closer I would come here frequently because nowhere close even compares. Easy to get to and find from public transport is just a bonus really.

If games are your thing, you will love this place. Not only can you buy games and anything game related, you can bring your own games and play them upstairs with your friends. They’re building a café next door so that will really bring in some good business.
I didn’t browse much of the games during my last visit because we were mainly there to play.
If you don’t have a lot of room and your place but you still want to host a game day, this is definitely a good place to go. We spent many hours here laughing, snacking and competing in our games. Fun stuff and a change of pace from the usual bar and restaurant scene.
Staff were quite friendly and they even gave us some promotional games to check out. I’m looking forward to checking this place out once the café opens.

I feel like I should start by saying, please don’t judge me. I know what you’re thinking. This is a game store for the RPG board game crowd (Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Warhammer). Therefore, I must be a nerd. Well, actually I am, but until recently, I never knew how these games worked. And then I joined a friend at one of Endgame’s afterwork gaming sessions. And I’ll admit that it was actually quite fun. Everyone is super friendly, definitely nerdy, and having a great time.
So if you can look past the geeky quirks, come give it a try. You might just get hooked.

Old Oakland has got a lot of gems and this place is one of them. We wandered in here on a Sunday after brunch and were surprised by the number of people inside (clearly having fun playing games upstairs) from the unassuming little corner storefront.
They’ve got a bit of everything — jigsaw puzzles (pretty decent assortment), strategy games, card games, children’s games and even a pretty large used game section in the back. As I was walking through, I did give serious thought into if maybe I want to play some live action role-​playing games …
The guy at the counter was super helpful in recommending a few board games — very knowledgeable and not pushy or aggressive. Much closer and more accessible than Games of Berkeley for me these days — so I will be back!

Endgame rules. I came on an impulse in search of Bananagrams (the anagram game that will drive you bananas), and not only did I find it right next to the front door, but there was a rack of Bananagrams in several foreign languages. Comment dit-​on ‘well-​stocked’ en français?
I loved the categories the store was laid out in. I gravitated towards the word games section while my guy went for the casual strategy. This place is packed with fun times ahead, whether it’s Apples to Apples, a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle, or Twister.
Really nice guy at the counter. Not sure if he’s the owner, but his friendliness made me want to come back and nerd out even further.
