I go here for cheap thrills and a pretty decent meal. When you want huge orders that make up for what they lack in taste by cutting your price by nearly half of what the gourmet shops charge down the road. Yeah, its greasy, but what do you want. You don’t go to a diner for health food. Im a fan. The fish, wings, and sandwiches are amazing.

Was hoping for a hole in the wall gem, what I found was simple old grill producing cafeteria quality burgers. Frozen patties, overly battered onion rings with only a hint of onion flavor, bacon cooked to the texture of brittle and infused with the chicken flavor of whatever was cooked there before. Not a great deal, not a great product. Decent but forgettable.

Went here a few years back. Basically your good flame grilled burger. Not expensive and with decent fries. I really enjoyed the burger here even if the interior needed some work. Still the same today. They are open late to fill your burger cravings.

Tried to spend money there, found them closed when they were listed as open, with a sign up saying they’d be open again at a time 20 minutes past. Not the way to make money.

Last week my assistant Pam invited me out to lunch and we decided on eating here. Of course, after the previous cook left and Dave seems to have to work behind the grill we have to order about 20 min ahead of time plus walking distance which is only 1 block away. The place is dirty as hell and needs a bad upgrade but we still wanted a greasy burger anyways. The food isn’t that expensive either but I have actually stayed away after the Julio or Jose or Emilio was the cook. I forgot his name but the locals sure now him. Do I recommend this place? NOWAYJOSE Only eat here if you are brave and focus on your food and not the dirty floor or tables.

I guess you get what you pay for? It’s easy to complain about how expensive burgers are up the street, but at least they have flavor… Also, I felt pretty unwelcome here… even though I went in with totally good intentions! I think the cook(owner) was more polite to the crackhead asking for a dollar for change than me. So… yep. Fail. Hopefully it’s a front for a lucrative business of a non-food kind.

I really like Hamburger Dave’s and have been a patron for years. The business is locally owned and operated and I feel good about literally putting my do-gooder money where my mouth is. Hamburger Dave’s is a neighborhood joint and a tradition. When you set out to go there you are not worried about diet, you’re not looking for fancy mushrooms, or bean sprouts or any of that shee-shee stuff. Hamburger Dave’s is the place to go when you just have to have a big olé’ all American cheeseburger. And the onion rings? Best in town. The Southern Fried Chicken sandwich is just deep fried goodness on a bun. Hamburger Dave’s is like a diner, only without the counter. So don’t go in lookin’ for a Late, bean sprouts or provolone. Go in looking for the satisfaction of that«I really want a cheeseburger.» urge.

Total dive place, retro with dime and quarter juke boxes on the wall. –1 for the flies. I ordered a french burger, a hamburger on a french roll. Wife had the fried chicken sandwich. Both were pretty good. Had all the fixin’s(lettuce, tomato, onion) and fries were nice and crispy. Not the best burger, but pretty good. Sodas are a can. Not a bad stop if you want a burger and dont want to do gourmet up the street.

If your looking to watch your weight, or eat organic, or healthy of any sort… this is NOT the place for you. But the food is great and greasy! Its that good ol’ burger joint from way back when the food was good tasting, hearty, and unhealthy! This place is a go-to spot for lunch!

The ribs, hot links, and b-que chicken are the best buys in the city. For $ 6.80 you get the meat, 2 sides, and of course, bread to mop up the sauce. Or you can get the burger, fries and coke for the same deal.

This place really does not prepare good burgers, fries, etc. The meat had no taste, the onion rings were some fried up tasteless frozen concotion… cannot recommend.

good greasy gardenburgers and fries. the wait time is a bit long, but you can get a burger, fries and soda combo for $ 6 so it’s not so bad. i wish they had more cheese choices, but all in all it was a good late-night experience. i live in the area, and there are few things open past ten… this is one of them and it’s good and basic for such purposes.

Well, my experience with this joint was quite positive. First off everyone, its a burger joint, not a crêpe shilling supper club. Does not dazzle from the outside, but it’s clean inside, and the people behind the counter were friendly. Was trying to decide between this and the chinese joint next door, and this won out, primarily because they were cheap and the menu was taped to the window so you could see what they had. Had a Cheeseburger Combo with everything. Came with fries and a canned soda. Fries were ok. The frozen to fryer kind with the crinkles, but I actually prefer that then too thick steak fries many places have. Burger? Fab! Homemade taste, lettuce and tomato weren’t old and gross like a few smaller burger joints I know. If you like mayo, you’ll be happy otherwise ask them to go light or none at all. There is no choice of cheese… so don’t get all uppity and start asking for pepper jack sharp wisconsin whateva. And they recycle their soda cans, if your one of those people who need to know that. So, to sum it up: No, it’s not Barney’s(thank god). It’s a burger joint. A small independent burger joint at that. Get over yourselves. You want pretty, buy yourself some flowers. Next time I go i’ll try the southern fried chicken sandwitch.

I only get one thing here, and it’s their fried catfish. Because if I craved a burger, I wouldn’t choose to get it from here, or anywhere on Piedmont. I’d just wait til I got off work and go somewhere else… somewhere far away… simply because I am a creature of habit. But the catfish is okay. Nothing special, but it’s the only place I know of that serves fried catfish that’s walking distance from work. If I knew of any others, I’d try them out too. It’s just that sometimes I crave that yummy friedness of catfish, so I come here. Plus, they’re open no matter what weird hours my lunch is. I’d call ahead though.

OIL. LIPIDS. FATS. TRIGLYCERIDES. LOWDENSITYLIPIDS. GREASE. MANTIKA. They could change the name of the place. Blech. oil. The place is too crampy, its like a minute-burger around the corner.(Americanized people and friends wouldnt know anything about it.) Greasy cooking spot and grill. I just had no choice but to run outside KP – cheat my time keeping system and get 10 minutes more. Café Mocha is too bland so i expected this to give me the taste I was craving for the day.(and i was disappointed.) The serving was slow and damn kept me worrying when I would get my first bite. i had Fish and Fries, and some ketchup. I brought water so i passed up on carbonic beverage this time(no more additional sugars please.) The fish gave justice to the fried world but not the fries— i think its too deep fried with just about 200% absorption of cooking oil. If you like oil, or just had no choice, this is your place. about $ 6 unjustified.

The best thing about this place is the combo #2. Yes, someone did mention that Kaiser Employees keep this place open. I do not disagree! I come here quite often when working overtime. I can’t really complain about the food. Fast food and good. Not a family atmosphere — obviously. I love the fries. Whether its frozen(like almost all places) I like the crunchy part about it.

Gotta love the way the meat is blasted on the grill, with flames hurtling skyward(fume-hood-ward?) with each grease-saturated flip. I appreciate the moderate prices for piles of charred meat on spongy buns, with plenty of high-fat toppings to accompany it. The fries, although from a paper bag living in the freezer, still come out slightly crispy and nicely savory, and there’s a lot of them. The service is leisurely to the extreme, but this often means that your order is long forgotten by serving time and extra stuff ends up in the basket. With so much else on Piedmont, I’ll rarely come back – but it’s a viable alternative to Giant Burger whenever I feel the need to stay on the safer side of 580.

My husband and I love this place. We live nearby and when we want a good ol’ regular burger we go here.(If you like the smokehouse, you’ll probably like this place – meaning they don’t do organic meat and imported cheese honey child.) We used to pass it up for the longest time ’cause it looked kinda funky from the outside but we decided to give it a go and are glad we did. They can be kinda slow ’cause there are like 2 people working there usually but that’s fine by me when the burgers taste homemade. I suggest calling ahead if you’re in a rush. No they’re not the cheapest burger but not much on PIedmont is cheap. We prefer these over those overpriced gourmet burgers down the street.

From the outside, this place looks like it might be a nostalgic and kitschy throwback to a diner-style burger joint that the kids used to hang out at. On the inside– greasy overpriced burgers in a restaurant about the size of a shoebox. We got burgers to go– they were covered in mayo– gross, with funky meat and american cheese. Plus, we got home to find the cook had given us fries instead of onion rings. There are much better places to get a burger in Oakland and many better ways to spend 6 bucks.(If you go here, note that a burger and fries a la carte costs 1.50 more than the burger-fries-drink special). As Adam says, «Hamburger Dave’s? More like Hamburger Don’t.»
