I love Johnny’s. I go there regularly for bagels and donuts. The Bearclaws are phenomenal and their bagels are amazing and are only $ 1! I live right around the corner, so I can pop in any time. It would be nice if they were open later, but they are a family run business, so I imagine that would be hard to do. I love when their kids are on break from school and help out, they are all super nice and personable. I wish they had better coffee, but that is really my only complaint. The bagel sandwiches are huge and they pile up the chowmein. Everything is pretty cheap. All in all I would recommend this place and have taken a few friends there before. Johnny’s is the best.

Johnny is the best. Always welcomes you with a smile and is super focused on making you feel good. It’s like old fashion service, it’s personable, he really cares, and you leave feeling like you just visited a friend.

I think people are surprised to find average food in a donut shop. Pluses: the condiments on the burger were fresh(whole leaf lettuce, nice slices of tomato, crisp purple onion), the burger spices were on point– perfectly salted. The fries had pepper in them prior to frying so different taste that regular fries. Minuses: Frozen fries, bun was not fresh and was kind of drying out, could taste the oil on the fries at first few bites. Place is dirty looking. Ok although the beef patty is of the frozen variety they really do try to go above and beyond on the rest of the ingredients as I mentioned above. Hey I buy dozen patties and grill them up so I don’t have a major problem with this and I don’t think that they try to cover that up. The bacon on the bacon burger was right quantity just wish they were more thickly sliced pieces(almost paper thin after cooking. End of the day I paid about $ 8.50 excluding tip for bacon burger, small fries and a can of Coke. Good price not great price for the quality. One recommendation, I would offer a combo price for burger and fries. I felt it was slightly over priced for what it really is.

I’m sorry, I just really cannot get on board with Johnny’s. Their donuts and hot food are not that fresh. My donut which was taken from the display cabinet tasted like a day-old donut… wish I could have had one of the donuts that was sitting on the rack behind the display that looked like they had been made that day. As for the hot food like chow mein, chicken, ribs, Chinese food, etc. the food is already made in the morning and just sitting in warming trays. No way would I want to eat food that has been sitting there all day. They do make bagels that are pretty tasty and the family who owns and works at Johnny’s are very nice.

Decent donuts and cheap chinese food. Which is an odd, but winning combination. Pretty much the epitome of a «hood» food spot.(Which I grew up frequenting back in NYC) No frills, decent cheap food. Hours kinda suck — because they close by 2pm on Sat. So unless you’re ready to get your mongolian beef and sweet and sour chicken at 10am, most times you won’t be eating from here. But it’s still good.

CORRECTHOURS: M-F 6am-4pm Sat: 6am-2pm Sun: Closed This place kind of blew my mind. I’m still in shock that I had the best veggie chow mein at a donut shop. Only $ 6 for a huge to-go box. Not one of the typical Chinese boxes, but an actual 6×6″ tray, loaded to the top. Leftovers forever. They make the food per order and it was loaded with fresh cut veggies. Noodles were cooked nicely and the flavors were so yummy. The Mandarin place on Piedmont Ave. is no match. Definitely coming back to try their donuts, FRENCHFRIES, and other food items. They also have the largest bottle beverage selections I’ve ever seen, everything from Perrier to prune and cranberry juices. I counted over a dozen different Arizona Iced Tea cans, and different Rockstar flavors too.

I think people are going a little too crazy for this place. Yeah, I was impressed by the quality and flavor of the fish sandwich, the donuts were pretty good, and to get two sandwiches, two donuts and a coffee for 11 bucks(I was eating with a friend, what can I say) is a steal. But places like this are all over the place… I think? I think it’s just your typical café that sells burgers and donuts and chinese food. LA has a bunch of them. I’d definitely go again, but I’m not going to become some devotee. It would need to have more than just a typical café seating area to get that from me. Also, it said cash only. gotta carry cash in this town.

Nicest owners, good donuts, croissant sandwiches, and lunch plate specials. What more can you ask for? I’m happy.

The donut holes here are near perfection — my kids only want the holes. I like the jelly and the cake donuts agree with Tate B. Maple bar is top shelf The real winner here is the cheese burger — a whopper with all fresh toppings for three bucks. Can’t be beat — I feel sorry for all the foodies who are missing this burger. Those in the know just get our burger and eat it in silence while reading the Oakland Tribuine. Yeah — it is a good to be at Johnny’s. My kids don’t even say donuts — they just call them«johnnies».

Was really craving a bacon cheeseburger yesterday and I knew that Johnny’s was just around the corner. At first I was curious if their burgers were any good as they mostly sell Chinese food and donuts. Needless to say, it was exactly what I was craving and it was all pretty cheap too. I got a bacon cheeseburger, fries, a can of soda, and 3 donuts for about 9 – 10 bucks. This is a good, family-run restaurant if you’re looking for a quick bite or some good donuts. Great prices!

dropped by on the 7th, got a glazed donut @.75, fluffy, as good as pricer ones. eats: 4 beef skewers over rice(8) with vinegary lettuce salad. with orange wedges and tomato slices. –skewers are laotian style, made not from flank steak but a fattier cut of beef. –meat had ginger, sugar, and tart flavors, totally different from skewers from thai restaurants. –meat very juicy, from spices and fatty meat, not dry like typical skewers. –skewers sometimes available on selected mondays-leftovers from sunday sales at local food festivals. –skewers worth every penny. –skewers not on display, need to ask for them.

Was seriously craving for a donut today; had to have a buttermilk donut and nothing else will do. And it had to be good. Stopped at Dream Fluff donut shop cuz it was the closest to my place, but the only buttermilk they had in the case looked unappetizingly unfresh. My honey Whipped out his phone, searched on Unilocal for a great donut shop and found this one. Drove up, and it really didn’t look promising, but at this point I was reall foaming at the mouth for a donut. The owners were very nice, the donuts looked fresh, and they had only 3 buttermilks left. Got the plain buttermilk and devoured it in front of the store. It was sooooooo fresh and light. I looked beseechingly at my honey, and he went back in and got the chocolate covered buttermilk. Yup, he’s a keeper. This one was even better, with a nice coating of chocolate. Devoured that one in, oh, 10 seconds. No sharing either. Definitely going back the next time I am craving a donut.

Trade secret: all the best donut shops also sell Chinese food. My favorite donut is a maple bar; second favorite is the twisty one. Johnny’s makes a MAPLETWIST. Every time I pop in for donuts, the staff is super friendly. Once Johnny threw some extra donut holes in the bag for my daughter, perhaps sensing that she eats too many vegetables. Good donut selection and a seemingly small drink selection, until you notice the giant fridges behind the counter. You can have just about anything to drink with your maple twist. Except a beer, and that’s only because us mere mortals cannot come that close to heaven.

I LOVE Johnny’s. I live about a block and a half away, which is lovely and terrible. I love donuts, but they are so bad for you. CONUNDRUM. Johnny is suuuuper nice. I’ve never had old donuts from Johnny’s, BUT that might just be luck. Boyfriend loves the apple fritters, but they are gigantic. We both love the crumb donuts, and I’m a big fan of glazed yeast donuts. They are super fluffy and tasty. Don’t let the exterior discourage you! These donuts are delicious. My only complaint is that they are closed on Sundays. Sunday is the best day for donuts!
