Since I cannot live without sushi I had to find something close to work. A few places that I tried I do not want to go back to… this one is ok. They put effort into making good rolls and sashimi. I would give this place 4 stars if not for one thing — Nigiri. I have not yet tried their sashimi so cannot vouch for it yet, but the Nigiri is NOT made with raw fish. The salmon and tuna used for it are either mildly smoked or(most likely) soaked in a saltene solution to keep it from spoiling. If you make Nagiri with raw fish the way it is really supposed to be, you need to bring in fresh fish midday. I guess these guys try to keep things simple and omit this part and do tricks with their fish to keep you from getting sick. At least it is priced reasonably low to make it more appealing to those seeking a quick lunch fix. It was still quite alright and I will go back here again.

Great deal on a Bento box! Teryaki chicken was just ok. Cali rolls, miso, and salad were pretty good though. Definitely plan on coming back and trying more rolls. GREAT for the price.

This place is outstanding for«to go» sushi/Japanese. I’ve been here twice now. The first time, I got a «grab and go» premade box. This time I got a bento box with chicken teriyaki and spicy tuna roll. The premade box was of good quality for not having been made that moment. The fish still tasted fresh and the quality was as good as any time I’ve ever eaten pre-made. Today’s chicken teriyaki bento was great. The chicken is a good cut and the teriyaki sauce isn’t overly sweet or drowning the chicken. The salad has that great miso/sesame dressing on it. A previous Unilocaler was spot on re: the spicy tuna roll. A great portion with fresh fish and chock full of goodies. True, the ambience is minimal… but it *IS* «to-go» after all. Great quality and a great price for this type of restaurant. Oh yes… and very friendly folks each time I’ve been there.

I think I’ve finally found a sushi spot for lunch. Yay! I ordered the nigiri and CA roll combo($ 8.50). It consisted of salmon, ebi, red and white tuna and 4 pieces of CA roll. A lot of sushi for under $ 10 bucks! While I waited for my food I sipped on some complimentary tea and sat at one of the 4 tables they have. When my food was ready the nice woman behind the counter gave me a big cup to take my tea away with, after filling it up at her suggestion. The sushi was good and tasted really fresh. Big pieces of salmon and tuna made them two-biters. This place has a pretty decent sized menu for such a tiny spot. They also serve hot and cold sandwiches, salads and smoothies. They have 2 different types of miso soup and 4 udon noodle soups. Large and small party trays available, too. I’m happy to add Kiku to my lunch hour rotation.

Kiku Sushi has a few tables for sitdown though their name implies it’s a «to go» business. menu: veggie/fish rolls, nigiri/sashimi, bento box, soups, udon, salads, sides, rice balls, hot/cold sandwiches, smoothies, fish in the house: ebi, white tuna, red tuna, salmon, kani, hamachi. tamago, tobiko eats: nigiri combo(8/8.99) –generous slices of fish on small mound of chewy rice(undercooked?) –fish tasteless, refrigerator quality freshness –nigiri boxed ready to go. –friendly service. –value 4 stars, qualtiy: 2.5 stars lots of average food for cheap.

Pretty good sushi, though the premises could stand to be a little nicer. When being served raw fish(even though it turns out to tastesquite good) you don’t want to be wondering how long it has been since the last major cleaning.

This place is much better than it looks. Yes, it is a poorly lit hole-in-the-wall, but the fish is fresh, the rolls are gently wrapped, and the menu is a little bit quirky(in a good way). First of all, the rolls are wrapped correctly. Sushi is supposed to be a bit too fragile to handle with chopsticks — that’s how it’s done in Japan, where sushi is a finger food. Very few places in the US do it this way, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it done that way at Kiku. Second, the nothing about the menu is generic. The owner used to have a sandwich shop in this location, and she kept a few of those on the sushi menu. Kiku is probably the only place in the world where you can get a bento box with a spicy tuna roll and half a chicken salad sandwich. The spicy tuna roll isn’t generic, either: in addition to the expected tuna and spicy sauce, it’s loaded with cucumber slivers, avocado, and salmon roe. A real treat and highly recommended!

Just happen to walk by and notice this new sushi place. there is a board on the sidewalk with a few todays specials. one of them is chirashi for $ 9.95. hey, thats a good deal and i have not found my favorite japanese restaurant for lunch i.e. decent food with reasonable price in the area. i ordered it to-go. theres decent amount of fish with just enough rice to go with it. see my picture for the types of fish they included. the fish is seasoned just right and not too soggy. i thought the rice is not chewy enough and feels a little undercook in the middle of the grains. it may just be the crop that they have chosen to use. All in all, it is a welcoming addition to the neighborhood as an affordable Japanese lunch spot. I would definitely go back and try other items on the menu. I will also give it 4 stars if they improve on the rice and just give me more rice next time.
