The chips and salsa were good with a big kick to it which made me look forward to the food, but unfortunately, I was let down. The food was not good. I did not like my chicken fajitas at all. The chicken tasted wired! The accompanying plate of beans, rice, salad and guacamole was the only part I enjoyed in the meal. My Bf had the Carnitas plate and he did not like it either. He said the meat was not good and was tasteless. I hate it when I get let down in food like that. I told the server what I thought of the chicken and he offered to give us a discount. He knocked $ 6 off of the bill, not bad.

One of a kind in the area. Best quality of food and ingredients that surpassed previous experiences anywhere. The woman assisting in taking my to go order and communicating to the cook was amazing!!! Cheers to her x2!!!

Giving them a poor review out of frustration with their inability to stick to their hours of business. Second time I’ve come only to be told they are closing early… by 6 hours. Normally I order via Eat24 and have had a pleasant experience but even with that, their availability to deliver or take pick up orders is spotty. I’m going to Casa Vallarta. They run like clockwork but are not available on the delivery apps.

Always a fun time. Something for everyone… cool place for private parties. Excellent food and drinks. The green salsa rocks!

Ordered here for the first time. First off they forgot our drinks, not that big of deal… when we called they said do you still want them. Off course I payed for them. Then when I took a bite of the steak it was rare, so rare that there was blood. When I called the lady said no problem we’ll pick up the meat and cook it more… how incovinient. As I was ending the call they finally arrived with our drinks. I ordered refrescos. They brought us different drinks. When I called she started almost screaming saying that I was wrong that she heard different, and that oh well what could she do now. Uncooked meat, wrong drinks, cold food and worst customer service ever. No restaurant has ever made me throw up my whole life. Never again.

Came for good music food and friends and was totally blown away by the great music on this Saturday Night but was also blown away by the absolute worst customer service ever, went to order food and was told I have to open a TAB. To order food!!! I said What??? I want to pay cash! Sorry Sir you still have to open a TAB! Are you kidding me? What do you think we are going to do? Dine and Dive? Then the food comes out and that was a joke!!! I Coming from a Latin Family and grew up eating Mexican Food my whole life, I can tell you flat out that this place has the worst food in Oakland! I ordered the Chile Colorado and that was a flat out joke! Rice was over cooked almost mushy hardly any beans in the refried beans. more like refried soup with cheese, 12 small chunks of meat and a watery sauce… (11.95) she had Steak Ranchero, that was even a worse meal then mine…8 small pieces of meat with fat on them and a plate of Bell Peppers. that covered all the small pieces of meat!!! (11.95) I will never eat here again! I will come back for the music… but I will never again eat here… If it was the last Mexican restaurant… I would rather go hungry.;-) all in all this place sucks!!! save your money… don’t even come. Unless the music is live on a Saturday Night! But eat before you get here!

We live a few blocks from this place and drove by it countless times (almost daily!) for 2 years but did not try it out until almost a month ago. Now we’re hooked! We have been going there twice a week, if not more, for both breakfast and dinner. Their food is super delicious, it’s my favorite Mexican restaurant now. I’m from SoCal and pretty much grew up on Mexican food, this place is where you’d want to take your SoCal/​Mexican food snob friends to.
We LOVE the following:
— Nachos… perfect layers of melted cheese, refried beans, guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo over delicious chips. We like to add rice to our nachos.
— Quesadilla… they make it with the right amount of cheese and with beef in it it tastes awesome.
— Breakfast Burrito… this is THE Breakfast Burrito, period. We’ve missed the breakfast burritos we used to get at various places in SoCal, they don’t make ‘em quite as good up here in the Bay Area. This restaurant has it down perfectly! I like to add sausage and sour cream to mine, worth the price.
— Green salsa… oh my goodness, best salsa dip ever! We put it on everything we order, we’re hoping to buy a jar of it from them one day (hint!)
Admittedly, we let the so-​so reviews influence us not to try the restaurant in the first place. Now we’re kicking ourselves for not trying the place sooner! Please give it a try and oh, they also have awesome servers who provide great customer service! :)

I was shocked to see so many bad reviews for a place that makes the most incredible Mexican food I’ve tasted in a long long time! First of all, the chips are insanely good, the green salsa and pico they come with are just outstanding — fresh and always on point!
Son since the chips are so amazing you gotta get the nachos. They make these perfectly, all the melted cheese, beans, Guam, sour cream, and olives you want, dripping down the plate!!!
They also have spectacular rice and beans as well as quesadillas! I can’t wait to try their breakfast burrito over the weekend!!! This place is the bomb!!!

Very generous with the Mimosa! Had a nice breakfast while waiting for my car to be cleaned. Very good pork chops. Server could have been more attentive.

They make good tacos but they are $ 8 for one taco with 2 shells they consider that 2 tacos. You also have to ask to make your drinks strong if you order a margarita. They have some really good chips and salsa.

I ordered a pickup order through Eat24 — Super Burrito and LA Estrelita Sampler. I was craving fried chicken, so I started on the sampler platter. Upon opening the box, I could see it was packed full of poppers, big onion rings, strip of chicken, and a couple wing sections. The other thing I saw was they were very well cooked, beyond golden brown. Suffice it to say, they were salty and unappetizing. But, I should’ve expected it to not be the best, as it is a Mexican restaurant.
The Super Burrito wasn’t any better, and far from super. It was a step above bland. I even found small pieces of, what I’m guessing, and hoping, were chicken bones.
Very disappointing from the last visit.

I ordered a Super Burrito and I was pretty let down. The chicken was really low quality, like something you would expect from a canned chicken noodle soup. The staff was friendly but never refilled my water or asked about the meal. Additionally it was way overpriced. $ 10.95 before tip for one burrito. The only upside was that the portions were large, but if the food’s not great that doesn’t really help.

I keep wanting to like this place, esp b/​c I only live a block away. The green salsa is some hot shit, which I really like, but the margaritas are only okay and I’d rather buy any food from the Tacos Mi Rancho food truck only a few blocks down the road than buy sub par food from these guys! I will say, however, when the Warriors are playing and all I want to do is watch the game and have a beer, then this place is just fine!

Yesterday I got off at noon, I thought lunch would be great. So I went to rocking crawfish in San pablo but they was quite open for business. The sign said coming soon lol. Then I thought about one more restaurant but wasn’t feeling it. I wanted something good to eat at a reasonable price and that had drinks, since it was too early for happy hour every where. So I after driving in circles for a good 15-​minutes I said here I come restaurant on E. 12^th. Oooh my, food so good and my margarita was tasty as well. It was worth the drive to Oakland until I came back to my car to a parking ticket for 66.00.

I was in this Oakland neighborhood and my partner crime said they visited after having foot reflexology and full body massage down the street. I know you read the review that I wrote on the same place. My partner in crime said the food was good at La Estrellita Café, but she did not tell me the service was slow. It was a Wednesday night and the restaurant was not that crowded.
I ordered the Pollo Chicken (12.95) grill chicken over vegetables. Very good taste and moist but the meat was mostly thigh meat. No breast meat mixed in, for the cost they could have added some breast meat. Skimping. The saving grace was the house margarita over rocks, good tasting and inexpensive
Chips were good, the green salsa was different tasting. Recipe from a different state in Mexico maybe. Slow service, I didn’t know if they were training staff but pick up the pace please.

I went here a few days ago and ordered a very simple order: a beer and a super burrito.
The burrito was pretty poor. The beer came after I was already biting into it and after the waiter prompted me to buy a beer because it was on happy hour menu, he ended up charging me not the normal price for the beer but a dollar EXTRA on top of the standard price.
I wouldn’t go back.

The shitty thing is they have good ingredients. It just didn’t feel like there’s any love put into this food. The burrito was expensive and tasted really bland. The rice tasted like Japanese rice which is a different style of cuisine altogether, and everything lacked seasoning.
The people that work here seem nice though. Are you guys aware that your food sucks, though?

If you need to add salt and pepper to any Mexican dish than that food isn’t good. The food here was bland, the service is horrible. They took forever to acknowledge me when I walked in. Took forever to take my order, never refilled my water and just talked to some friends who walked in and out. There was 2 cooks and 2 servers on duty and 0 customers in besides myself. In fact one lady was waiting when I got inside but she walked out unhappy. I would’ve left too but I was waiting on my car to be fixed so I needed to waste time .
The food was lack luster and tasted like mushy beans with no seasoning .
I won’t be back.

This used to be our go-​to-​place when we lived in Berkeley.
My co-​workers and I used to order take out when I worked in the Lake Merritt area.
We have been less than wowed by the food lately… different chef?
Also the same server who was quite icy to me in the past (for who knows why, I’ve never done anything to her) gave everyone in my group menus except for me.
When I ordered using Mr Rinky’s menu she didn’t look at me.
She served me last — I hope she didn’t spit on my food.
It is so puzzling why she behaves this way. Not to «brag» but I am always super polite and friendly and always leave a 20% tip. It seems she may have mistaken me for another Asian woman who was rude to her?
If we do go back I’ll make it a point to ask for another server or just leave if she shows up.

I can only speak to their vegetarian food, but it was *really* underwhelming. I had the veggie tamales, and the filling was frozen-​mix vegetables with cheese without much seasoning/​flavor. The sauce over the fajitas was bland, and the black beans (instead of refried) had no seasoning. So sad. The bean dip appetizer was just a bowl of refried beans… so, not really a dip, just beans. I mean, they were fine, but nothing to shake a stick at. The food was over-​priced for the quality.
Server was nice and the space is cool, but it’s not a place I plan to revisit.
